I recently sold my D2H on fleabay for £460 it was a very nice example working absolutely perfect, Yet 1 day after it arrived I got an email saying a little plasic bit was loose in the mirror compartment ....... to which I replied this will be the focussing screen that has dropped out but dont worry it simply clips back into place and I then forward him a link to prove this does happen in transit and is not a problem as its meant to come out for either changing or cleaning.

No he says "he is a pro tog and this shouldnt come out" so I send a link on the D2H showing him it does

So he files a complaint asking for his money back (if it was my fault I would gladly refund) but its a Nikon design and it has obviously had a slight knock in transit to fall out in the first place.

So I decided to escalate the claim to speed things up and end this UNTILL i noticed in his feedback he had bought another D2H for only £325

So obviously he is trying it on so he has the lower priced one and gets his money back for the more expensive one HMMMMM

My listing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180302589599

The other http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190264200771

What do you think

Or even worse using you camera as spare parts bin prior to returning it

just a thought...is there anything on the camera that you sold him that would prove it was yours?

my reason for saying this is that maybe the one he bought for £325 was damaged yet the one you sold him for the more expensive price was fine....but he obviously doesnt want to pay the £460 so decides to swap them over in order to get his money back so in effect its not yours your having back but the other persons who sold it to him.

check the description of the other one he bought to make sure it doesnt say faulty.

its more benficial to him to put a claim in on yours rather than the cheaper one!

I have the serial number of my camera and its also with my insurers

It;s devious people like him (among other things) that get fleabay such a bad name. Maybe you should provide a hint as to who it is so others can beware!

Is this allowed here if it is then its no problem

I hate people that do this on ebay.

Unfortunatly there isnt much you can do if he paid by paypal, as they will always side with the buyer, (I have been done by this) in any claim like this.

Good luck with whatever you do.

well if you click the second link in the first post his name apperars as the buyer.

Also to prove the camera works perfectly I have sent a screen capture to paypal showing the exif of a photo of a S2Pro we had for sale taken with the D2H the day befor posting it

If you have proof it wasposted and working, but was damaged in transit, its not your fault.

Did he pay for extra cover on the postage?

No he took standard 1st class but I do have proof of posting as it was paid through paypal

In that case you can prove it was working when you sent it and that its his fault for not insuring it against damage if it is 'broken' so he's out of pocket - or he can clip it back in, stop whining and resell to recoup some of his loss

Please do name on here, so others are made aware, just in case.

Does seem very suspicious IMHO :suspect:. I hope Ebay sort it out for you ;)

Just goes to show the devious nature of some people :(

Umm...that's not correct. Until the goods are received by the purchaser they are the responability of the seller, whether the buyer chooses to insure the shipment or not.

UMM cheers flash burst my bubble lol but really can you see them getting away with this

whats the insurance cover for then? Surely if insurance is taken ot then it is the responsiblilty of the send and if no cover then you pray it gets there ok?

im not saying you are wrong but i just dont see thepoint ininsurance then.

Its proof that my nikon was insured with the serial number 8 months ago proving the serial nothing else

Even insured or not if it gets damaged in transit surely its the courier I cant hold its hand all the way to its destination and the buyer can ask for insured items if they want but as you can all se there is summat dodgy going on here and not on my side of the story

It's a tricky one. I would be suggesting that he takes the camera to an authorised Nikon dealer and ask them to give him in writing what is wrong with it. If it is just the focus scren that has popped out I'd imagine most such places would simply pop it back in for him. If he refuses then that would suggest that your thoughts about him just wanting his money back because he has bought a cheaper one would seem well founded.

My pal had a similar situation with a collectable model car (a batmobile iirc) he sold to a guy in Australia, who claimed upon receipt that it was damaged, but when we did a bit of digging into his buyer history lo and behold he had bought one a few weeks before with just the damage my friend's one now seemed to have. Whe this was pointed out to him he quietly withdrew his claim. If he hasn't escalated matters to a claim then I would just wait and see what happens and only mention the point about the other camera when you have to.

Insurance is for the benefit of the seller, regardless of what anyone says. If the goods arrive broken, or don't arrive at all then Paypal will refund the buyer's money. For the sake of a few pounds I don't see the point in not insuring an item of this value...

i smell scam tbh, the camera hes going to send back is likely not yours!

Ok it was someone called superjules999 if it helps

This buyer is someone I do NOT want to come across in my(nowadays rare) dealings on the bay of fleas. He is now added to my 'barred' list and thanks for the info.
Hope you get this sorted to your satisfaction.

anyone can pop them out with the latch and pop it back onto the frame and pop it back in its designed to do this without specialist help its a feature built into high end nikons so you can change screens anytime or clean the prism so its nothing really

I know that, but by forcing him to take it to a Nikon dealer to get it put back in then I am assuming they will explain this to him. If he refuses to do this (and I'll bet you a penny to a pound he does) and tells you so via the paypal dispute process then it is one more point in your favour.

Hmmm

wow fast update ....the alert on my ebay account has gone and I can now bid again

Bloody ebay, right royal pain nowadays. My brother has recently been the victim of some dodgy buyers too.

Hi mate I was gonna quote you to verify I am a decent seller but thought I better ask first ....hows the hol goin and nore to the point new motor:woot:

:nono: Don't tempt fate, the new motor is still a week or two away, so although I have got my name on it and paid a deposit, I won't rest until it's sat there in my drive way

nether the less would you hand back 500 quid to a connman....I wont serves him right my only wish would be that I did sell him a dud lol

Be careful with how to procede.

Chances are if this goes to a Paypal dispute, Paypal will probably say the buyer can send it back to you. This usually happens in a "Not as Described" dispute.

So make sure you take photos of the box that arrives, and when you open it the contents.. just to make sure he's not sent you a brick under the tracking number Paypal will require.

i hate ebay and paypal and i run a business on there.

A few weeks ago i sold an item for £45, the money was paid to me by paypal and was described as cleared so i sent the item.

2 weeks after i sent the item i had an email off paypal, saying dont send the item because the payment had been reversed and put on hold!

After contacting them it seems as though i cannot get my money back immediately and i am still waiting even though the item was sent almost a month ago, i have proof of posting and i even have proof from the buyer that he had received the item!
i contacted the buyer and said what is happening with the money and he said he had a problem with his account and that the payment would be with me in my paypal account in 7-9 days. I waited and nothing so i contacted paypal again and they told me that i qualify for seller protoection but because my item was sent first class and does not have a tracking number that i may not get my money back!

their protection is ridiculous and they really need to shape up.

Mysterio, I had a similar situation but my buyer's bank had queried the transaction. My buyer had received the item and had no complaint so I suggested to PayPal that the matter was between them and the bank and I shouldn't be affected.

They replied that PP doesn't guarantee payments and that if the payer sorts out the problem at their end or if I had followed all the steps to be covered under PayPal's seller protection policy then they would release the funds back regardless of what is happening with the sender of the funds.

I hadn't used recorded delivery but did have a certificate of posting, which PP say is acceptable documentation if there's a reversal for an unauthorised payment. They hadn't requested it, but asked me to fax a copy and then asked why it had been sent!

When the funds had been released back to me I contacted my customer, who said: "At no time did they ask me whether or not I had received the order, they kept repeating there was a bank processing error and went on to say 'Please do not contact PayPal because this is entirely an issue between the account holder and their bank.'" -- which I think means that my customer should've badgered their bank to get it sorted.

Back to the OP: a while ago I had a dispute about a heavy item that was sent with inadequate packing. At the time it looked as though PayPal would say the problem was not covered by their policies and was between the seller and the carrier. Eventually, I was refunded by my card issuer and I now never pay for items from my balance or bank account. So, Dangermouse, if your buyer pursues his claim he may find that damage in the mail isn't covered.

When ever you sell on eBay and accept paypal as a Payment option you must use a fully tracked service, one that PayPal can go online and check the tracking number on

Royal Mail SP

Parcel force

One of the many couriers.

Proof of postage is not enough for PayPal.

If you don't and the buyer claims its not arrived, PayPal will always find in favour of the buyer.

Paul

yes i understand this, my item however was sold outside of ebay, and i have email proof that the item was received.

just have to wait now!!

IF you agree to, or have to agree to let him return it, ensure that you state in your return details mail to him that you are expecting the return of serial number XXXXXXX. If he knows you have the serial number, and even better if you have a pic of the serial number, he may just withdraw.....
