The most ludicrous thing Canon has said?

Yes
I had my 1D bodies in for a service and as I am CPS the turn around and communication was good.
I asked Canon to provide shutter count information for the bodies also but this wasn't supplied when they were returned.
When I asked why the shutter count information wasn't supplied they said "Unfortunately it is part of Canon’s procedure not to inform customers of the shutter count".
I find this ridiculous - has anyone else come up against this? They're my cameras and I want to show the shutter count - what's the issue?

Look on Internet for my shutter count and upload an image! Or look in metadata on Lightroom and it will tell you everything! But yes it's mad isn't it

I believe this isn't available, the camera doesn't add the shutter count to the EXIF. ... Which is why I asked Canon for it.

Anyway that's not what my point is.

I assume they do this so as to not encourage customers from sending their cameras in for any old issue just to get a shutter count for purposes of selling it.

Is there ever a chance of getting a shutter count wrong?

I'm thinking they are protecting themselves if ever there was an argument in regards to a shutter count...

Doubt it as either have to be a genuine warranty issue or some form of chargeable service asked for , can't see them wanting less paid work?

Agreed with the op cannot see why the request was refused, did you try to escalate it at all?

No idea why Canon are taking this stance. However, I use this http://www.opanda.com/

I use the freebie version and it has just told me, for example, that my D3200 has had 7520 shutter releases.

I did contact them and complain that I specifically asked for shutter count information but then heard nothing at all back from them on that subject - they basically ignored me. When I pressed them they said it was policy from Japan or something so I wrote back saying how ludicrous it was - they are my cameras after all.
They have subsequently offered for me to send the cameras back to carry out the shutter count work but I feel a bit disgruntled with the whole thing now and it would be hassle for me ... so I'm chalking it down to leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

Oh and for the record I don't believe there are any 3rd party tools that will give the shutter count on my 1D cameras.
