You're right Julian. It's a hell of a climb. BUT you would see the aircraft from the carpark. They fly directly over it.
The buzz is worth it mate. Granted you wont get the shots that you want, but you could get head on shots. Especially when the RAF fly through as low as they do.
The F15's shown on that video are a bit high.

Now if someone donates 200ft of scaffolding poles then maybe.......

Cad East is accessible by wheel chair with help (I'm sure I've seen a TOG write about his experiences, but can't remember the link), as the farmers track goes most of the way to the top, but there is some uneven ground to get across

You can capture some shots like this

Having never tried (for some reason I like carry my gear up the hill :cuckoo:), you could probably capture shots from the car parks at Cad and the Bwlch. Unfortunately most of the other locations ain't wheel chair friendly

Check out www.flylow-flyfast.co.uk for some info

Was about to mention CAD East but Pete beat me too it. Think the biggest problem you would have would be tracking the aircraft though, as they do motor through the valleys at a reasonable speed. Only one way to find out though, and it's worth the trip just to see them coming through at low level.

very cool :)

I've been up East and I have to say that I wouldn't think you could get a chair up there. It's uneven grass with a small stream/drain near the lower part that you have to step over.
The carpark is the best bet.

Is there anywhere to get a Land Rover up a track? If that was possible Julian I'd be up for a trip. I'm down there next week so will take a look.

You drive up a track most of the way. But then you have to get up the hill to the top. Nowhere near as bad as all the other places. But still uneven ground and grass. It's only about 5 mins. But I doubt very much a chair could get up there.
I'll have a look to see if I can find any piccies of it..

Kev.

Here you go. Cadeast:

Mark is sat at the 'shooting' point. So you have to come over the hill behind him. The terrain is the same on the other side.
Very uneven and boggy near the bottom.

Kev, there are other places at Cad East just lower down from the main area which would be more accessible.

Dont think Julian would be able to get his wheelchair there, why not try Blackpool Liverpool or Manchester airport to get some good shots of planes  when its Southport air show youll get the red arrows and a few other aircraft, both in Southport and Blackpool airport as they use that as the departure site

He he my funniest shot from Southport last year, ha ha it got stuck, looks like an airfix model, took me a few passes to get it I did really want it in the arch, below the light, but couldn't because of the fence,I couldn't get low enough, so went for that shot

I was there yesterday and it was one monster of a climb. Certainly not accessible for disabled wheelchair user's I'm afraid.

How ever there are many points along the valley and therefore I guess there has to be somewhere where you can get a good viewpoint. The more local lads would be better to guide you though.

If they can get a wheelchair through the rainforest of Costa Rica, from one side of the country to the other....you'll get a wheelchair up the Welsh hill. All it needs is a few willing volunteers with some brawn and determination.

I know what you're saying about getting up there on your own is true. I bet there would be a few folks there on the day though and you know how the old saying goes about the broken lamp....................

.............many hands make light work!

Although I do really want to agree with you, parts of this climb is just darn dangerous with only photography kit never mind a chap in a wheelchair.

that is from cad west which is very different to cad east which may well still be not suitable but it is a far more likley option! also cad west dangerous!?

worth a word with GLASS area guys?

Thinking about this overnight, the obvious place would probably be Tebay. By far the easiest?

I'd love to pop along too, must be an accessible site.

The original thread was really meant just to be showing all who like me have not been or seen the loop, apart from seeing it on here from you lucky buggers that have taken the photos you have of the jets there. And how big is that lens at 1.10.
