FURTHER EDIT

I will no longer be attending this event because of reasons. At time of editing (8/12), there are one probable and two work-dependent maybes on the attendance list. The thread is still open so if you're undecided on whether to attend, post below and discuss away.

END FURTHER EDIT

EDIT

13/14 December is the chosen weekend. Whatever we do, it's going to be busy in town that close to Christmas so suggestions for an agenda are welcome, please post them below!

END EDIT

Following the other thread, there are some dates in the poll, please pick a weekend or the weekends that suit your schedule. I don't know London that well so I suggest meeting at Trafalgar Square as it's central and easy to find. Happy to change the location if there's another that's easier or more suitable, I've no idea how busy it's going to be but chances are it won't be quiet!

Think of all the possibilities for classic London in winter shots - Oxford Road, Christmas lights, shoppers battling through the crowds, that bloke who's just run off with your camera bag, the taxi driver who's just sworn at you and, of course, the smelly armpit in the face on the Tube. Wait, why are we doing this again?

I've stuck to weekends on the basis that it's usually easier for everyone to travel then. If a do-it-later option wins, I'll post a new poll later. Poll's open for 7 days and multiple choice is allowed :)

Ok, poll has closed with 13/14 December as the winner so I've changed the title and first post to reflect that. Roll up, roll up, register your interest and if there's anything special you'd like to do below! :D

It'll be hectic, though the opportunities for street photography should be great. It looks as though there are a few exhibitions at Somerset House and it's a short walk from there to the South Bank and Hayward Gallery, which will be lit up for Christmas. I'm happy to put together an agenda, though I'm equally happy to defer to those with local knowledge as mine's pretty woeful.

The remaining question is, would you prefer to do this on the Saturday or Sunday? I doubt it'll make any difference to the crowds, it's more about which is easier for everyone.

Christmas meets tend to be hectic, fun and alcohol biased. I'm in! Although not winter wonderland please- disaster the second year we descended on it.

I've been avoiding this because I hate, crowds, Christmas and London (although not as much as I used to). But I am tempted because... well... Aah go on I'll say it.. I MISS YOUSE GUYS.... And I don't have to pay on the train and its only 90 minutes from oop north nowadays.
I'll give it some thought.

Andy

Yes, film meets always seem to include those elements, plus a selection of ancient cameras to play with, and lots of esoteric discussion about cameras, lenses, film, dev chemicals, and... how bad the local beer is, according to the non-locals!

Be great to see you there, Andy, always a chore and never a pleasure or something like that :)

It's a bit rich that you're only 90 minutes away though - takes me about the same time to get to the centre of town and I live somewhere that's supposed to be convenient for London!

A full weekend is making me look at flights atm.

Totally unplanned and without any arrangements for digs etc BUT i could potentially do an arrival in london fri eve depart early morning mon......

Any update on this, which is now the end of next week? I'm hoping to come... but that London's a big place, I'm told, so we need a rendezvous at least. And maybe a little plan? Or, if Dean is organising it, a big plan?

It may be worth noting that the December POTY14 theme is "fashion", and apparently there's few places more fashionable than that London. Likely to be going anywhere where fashion might b visible?

Think I'm going to have to miss this one guys, the thought of 45 billion people all christmas shopping makes me want to weep into my fixer....I don't really do crowds, I find that eventually humanity winds me up so much I start swinging my TLR about in an effort to rid me of their pathetic tiny faces.. I WILL CRUSH YOU ALL VILE EARTHLINGS... oops, sorry, got a bit carried away there. :coat:

o_O

Probably best now that we're closer to the date if we start with a roll call and confirm which day it'll be. So ... I can do either day and am still in.

Anyone else?

I refer the honourable member to my previous statement.

So, what your saying is that I don't need to tell you that im not coming. Or do I need to tell you that I've already told you that I won't be attending? I'm confused...again.

atm anyday .( but subject to if i get offered a job and they want me to work ,,,,(the bstads) )

I saw on TV that there's an exhibition of photography on at the Science Museum, though my guess is that it will be packed and expensive. My other half and I will be in The Smoke next weekend, but already have our time there mapped out so will not be able to meet up. I hope the meet goes well though and am looking forward to seeing the photos.

Just got tickets to see this ^^^ as for our joint Xmas prezzie we're having a weekend up that London. Think it was a fiver so not too bad really.

Drawn by Light in the Science Museum, £8 I think.

If others are as against crowds of shoppers as @Andysnap what about going somewhere with fewer of them, like Regents Park, Hyde Park etc?

In all honesty, if there's only going to be a couple of us there (me, ChrisR and donut (maybe) so far), then I'll cancel this and we can do something in the new year instead.

dont know if Robs still interested ( @feek )

I'll be there as long as I'm not working, any excuse to drink beer and talk utter tosh.

Well, I left it over the weekend and we've got two probables and two work-dependent maybes. Personally, as t'missus will be away, I think it'd be an ideal weekend for me to get my Christmas shopping done and finally spend some time sorting out the garage, something I've been threatening to do for months.

Long story short, I'm out. Obviously the thread will still be here should anyone have a sudden change of heart and if you still meet then I hope you have a great time with plenty of photo opportunities.

Well if you can't be arsed to come into the big city before Christmas I vote for a New Year meet.
A combination of beer and lots of photo related Christmas goodies to play with and maybe a trip to the Science museum photo exhibition.

I was just about to post that there would be serious danger to my health if I did this, safer to "help"** with the Xmas shopping!

** help == pay!

New Year sounds good. Another poll?

new year it is then ..

Not sure if I've mentioned it but I won't be coming on this one....
