Found this via Facebook - very American in the way it puts the facts over but interesting nonetheless.

It documents Steve McCurry, he of the Afghan girl portrait in Nat Geo, using the last roll of Kodachrome off the production line.

The prize for last roll of Kodachrome processed (so far) belongs to Stephen Frizza, owner of The Lighthouse lab in Australia who put together the chemistry and processed some Kodachrome last year.

He did it as an exercise to see if he could do it and has no plans to offer it commercially.

Steve.

Just watched it and I myself am starting with film, all his pictures are not as sharp as digital but natural and magical, love it

The fact it's only in 360p [sadly] might make it seem they're not sharp.

Seen it here last time, but yup, it's worthy of a repost IMO, nice docu', I enjoyed it.

If you have ever seen Steve McCurry's prints in the flesh they aren't super sharp, however the images talk for themselves and its the nature of film compared with digital, however there is no denying that his work is incredible and well worth going to see

I've seen them in the likes of Nat Geo mag, I know they're sharp and incredible, I wasn't questioning them :) I was explaining to the other poster why they may not look sharp on this video. Why the hell they made it only 360p?? Something like this really needs 1080

Could be a possibility that the 1080 version is only hosted on the Nat Geo website. Might have to go an look, if only to see the detail that bit better :)

I enjoyed that, thanks for posting.

One thing though... I see he doesn't mind cropping the tops of heads, the bottom of beards, edges of hair or legs/feet almost randomly.

Often wonder if some-one like him posted on a forum like this, using a forum alias, so no-one knew who it was, how much flak would he get for posting "cr@p"?

Somewhere there is a website posting critiques of work by Cartier Bresson (and others). Some of it is quite funny.

Steve.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying I think Steve McCurry is "cr@p" by the way.
Just a general thought.
I'd like to see the website for critique on Bresson et al though !

Thanks for them, they made me laugh !

Some of the people had incredible hats/hair/beards/moustaches/etc. and personally I'd have included some whole... but I'm sure mine would have been lesser images for it.

Any thoughts as to what I should do with the 2 - 3 doz rolls of K I have in pristine packaging?

True - but why would I want to? I have plenty actual monochrome stuff!

No, it should have gone into the bucket (I doubt it can be recycled!) but I just feel that it's too soon to do that. I mean, it's only 20 or so years old !

Perhaps some kind of retro Christmas decoration?

All suggestions welcome!

Why does it have to be anything significant? It's not like you can beat the last roll ever made. Just ... shoot with them?

Ah, I see that the images are different from the bizarre and random crops as shown in the vid clip. Good.
