Hello!

I've only been driving a few months so I'm still relatively new but I've got lovely new gear now and I'm desperate to get out into the Lakes and do some shooting! I live in Blackpool so its not too far away from me, but it would have to be a day trip due to work.

My family are insisting I choose a well used, known and safe route for my first walk (which I agree with) and its important for me that I avoid complicated driving routes. I do have satnav however, just not a lot of confidence!

Anyone recommend anywhere thats scenic for landscapes but easy to drive/walk around?

If you want to keep it nice and simple driving wise, i'd suggest up to Ullswater (only a couple of miles from Jct.40 M6) and the road follows the lake for almost it's whole length with plenty stopping opportunities. Also along that route is Aira Force water fall.

You could follow this road all the way up and over Kirkstone pass for some great photos looking back down the valley over Brotherswater, and then continue over and down into Windermere for some more great photo opportunities.

From there you can follow the road more or less all the way back to the M6 (Jct.36 iirc).

I hope that's a start for you, it's certainly a route I would consider as seen as you're new to driving, and the Lakes in general, and whilst Kirkstone Pass may sound daunting, it really isn't.

Anything else you want to know, just ask, and I can try and help, as I know the Lakes pretty well.
 
Go round rydal water via loughrigg terrace before crossing the road to the church retreat hippy place (weird wooden tent things in the woods in front of an old mansion). Easy (physically and navigationally) walk with mountains, lakes, and an island, bikers and kayakers for action shots, ramblers for scowling self-righteousness shots, weird stuff int woods and all straight out of Ambleside.

I'd also recommend Ullswater. Even if you only drove around the lake there are 3 places that are well shot and pretty famous. You have the boat house, which I've shot here, you have the National Trusts Aira Force waterfall (which Steelo pointed out) and you have the pier at Glenridding.

You could even post on here and meet up with other people.

I'll second Keswick, there are plenty of small walks around the lake or some smaller fells should you feel adventurous ie Catbells and Latrigg.
