Anyone used this on a Nikon, is it any good, does it work with AF.

cheers

Only have the 1.4 myself.
The 2x should work on a 2.8 lens taking it to 5.6, but will probably hunt on the AF in all but the brightest light

Thanks PsiFox.
Looking at one local in an ad for £30, so wondered how it performed..

I have the 2x, haven't used it a great deal but quite pleased with it on the whole when I have. I will try and post a pic or two when I get a mo.

I only use it on my 70 -200 VR and all features function OK. If you can pick one up for £30 I buy it without hesitation. I paid about £140 for mine a year or so ago.

Thanks Geoff, I am going in 15mins the sellers way to take my son for a theory test, so was hoping to pop in at the same time and look at it, i would be using it on a 70-300 vr.

I use it on my 80-200 with no issues, just remember you lose 2 stops of light.

At the long end the 70-300mm VR is f5.6 isn't it?

If so, then you'll end up with a 600mm f11. Might sound nice, but f11 is slow and dark. You'll lose AF for sure.

Thats a lot of stop, i did think that i could up the ISO, would that be ok?.
Although saying that i did not receive a reply phone call from the seller, so at this point not sure if its still for sale. But it is interesting to knw for future reference...

I have just received a message from the seller of the subject, I now understand it has had very little use, but used in conjuncation with a Nikon 35mm.
Would this work ok with Digital ?

Thanks

You could up the ISO, but I suspect you might have to up it so much it would be a noisy mess. A 2X converter on a budget zoom lens would also make the image quite soft. Add that to the fact that you would haveto use manual focus I would suggest you stear away from the 2X converter. :)

Look at the 1.7 instead perhaps?

Thanks to all, I think i have made my mind up now.
cheers.

You'd still have the same issue. I wouldn't use any converter on a lens that is f5.6 or slower.

Less loss of IQ on the 1.7 compared to the 2x though

Thanks again.
There seems to be alot of negitive on the 2x, I feel i will try a 1.4 or 1.7. funds are low at moment so its cheaper than going for a longer zoom.
