On topic..no matter what brand it is, its going to be a long time before a cameraphone will come anywhere near a dslr. Not so much in quality of images but more with the ability to shoot moving objects

No not at all, you are missing the point. There are pages on here with an argument against it, yet not commenting on the image quality which is the point of this thread, based upon being able to buy something cheaper.

I thought the point of the thread was to discuss the claims made by 'Cult of Mac' - and right from the start of the discussion, the point was raised that the claim is a PR and marketing ploy - so I would say the cost of buying into the product and what alternative can be had for cheaper is relevant to the discussion. The phone is a multi-purpose device and if this genuinely was an argument of whether the iphone is as good as having a DSLR, then most of us would have finished the debate on page one with a simple 'no'.

As above, I do have to admit that it ain't bad as a compact camera though.

It's just another gimmick from Apple just like the IPad it's just for people like you to say WoW:bang: it no where near as good of DSLR camera never will i don't really see what all the fuss is about it's just a phone at the end of the day with a 960x540-pixel qHD touch screen. and 8MP camera!

Where did you see me say wow? Can't say I'm in any rush to sell my little 500D & buy an iPhone 4S - gimmick or not it's an effective sales ploy by Apple as the one thing you do find the majority of their customers have been disappointed with has been image quality.
