The increasing cost of film :o(

When I see 35mm film at the bootie ( I20 is rare) I usually pay 10p....the film I'm using now is Fotostop VXS 200 (Konica) exp in 2008 and 36exp...well someone paid £3.69 for it, so in comparing with prices today some films are still reasonable.

That's only really an option if you want to gamble with expired 35mm film from someone who's probably shoved it in a box in the garage for the past ten years. Totally different from someone like Gareth that wants a specific reliable 120 film to record someones wedding on

Sure there isn't a market for lofi lomo wedding photography.

Brian you need an eBay account mate, you could be making a decent supplement to your pension cycling stuff from the booties to ebay for a profit.

I think as the price of film increases I'm just going to end up using it less, or use more black and white that I can dev myself. I'd love to shoot more but I need a house, and as my girlfriend tells me, "you can't live in a camera".
You've got a van, what do you need a house for?

 H'mm Carl my main point was the price of film...but of course anything important you would use fresh film, but ordinary film is quite tough and only had one crappy expired film in 6 years and it was something like Tudor on the box, by crappy I meant the colours weren't very nice.

Errr... There isn't one single box of colour negative film available in 120 format at 7dayshop. If that's not a supply issue, then I don't know what is.

This really. Had a look on their site and they have none of the films I want. Nothing in colour negative and 120 as RJ says. :(

As per the OP, Gaz is looking for Portra 400, Portra 800 or Fuji Pro 400H and none of them are available from 7DayShop? DiscountFilmsDirect have some split rolls of 800/400 but I think Gaz was looking for full boxes of 5 ideally.

Ideally. Have a couple of boxes left at the moment. Used my last box of Portra 400 on the couples shoot on Tuesday evening.

Can't see me shooting weddings/couples/anything travel adventure ish on that to be honest. :(

I keep trying to get a full wedding on film! I will get there eventually.

There is on eBay though

Deciding that the price of (Agfa/Kodak/Fuji) film is only going to go up, and I'm going to have to buy it anyway, I decided on a bulk order at AG. Came to triple figures, which scared me so much I sat with it in the basket for several days. Eventually added some more black and white and clicked buy. Now I'm sincerely hoping this parcel arrives while SWMBO is out...

I ordered 25 rolls of neoprene Across 100 from B&H and it cost me USD188 delivered to Malaysia and I had to pay 10 quid VAT.
Which equates to £6.50 a roll.
I'm currently trying a CFV50C and will make my mind up after my trip to India if I want to get one or not....... gut feeling is no as I just love the whole process of shooting and developing film[emoji41][emoji41]

I find it ridiculous that, despite living in London, it works out significantly cheaper for me to buy Ilford film in the US after it has been shipped over there and then bring it back myself than to buy it here - by that point it's flown most of the way around the world!

Ordered the last two boxes of Neopan at Calumet up £4 each from what it was last time I bought any (about this time last year...)

Good prices and selection here: http://ntphotoworks.com/

Steve.

Just thought I'd report that I bought four rolls of 120 film from here this week. Cost £19.57 (including £2.99 postage) for the following:

Rollei Retro 400S
Rollei RPX 400
Rollei Superpan 200
Ilford FP4 Plus

Ordered Tuesday afternoon and they arrived this morning and there was a small bag of Haribo's included in the package. :)

Excellent.

Recently, one of my friends bought a new guitar. In the case there was the usual picks, spare strings and truss rod adjuster... and a Curly Wurly!

7dayshop have Portra 400 in stock for £21.89 for 5 rolls of 120, and that includes postage:

Personally I haven't had good results from Portra 800, although I think all the rolls I used were expired. I prefer to just underexpose Portra 400 where necessary. However, I'm not shooting weddings which obviously demands exacting standards.

Portra 800 is a great film, but I often avoid it if it's expired. Not only do faster films tend to go off faster, but they are also often shot in difficult light; the combination of these factors often leads to issues.

I also think that it gets a bad wrap on occasion, as it is also used inappropriately (I say this from experience...). Daylight-balanced films, which all colour films are nowadays, often require around two stops more exposure under most indoor lighting and street light situations and, ideally, a filter (e.g., 80a, 80b, 80c, etc.) as well. If shot at speeds faster that ISO 200 in indoor or mixed lighting, Portra 800 is likely to lose its sparkle and colours are prone to shifting.

Like any colour negative film, it likes plenty of light and it prefers daylight (or daylight-balanced flash).

I really need to check the expiry on the Portra 800 I've got in then. Make sure I make the most of it before it goes off.
The last batch I purposely shot in great, evening sunshine and I love the results from it.

EDIT : Expires in October 2017. We're good! :)

Where did the film spreadsheet buying thingy go? Trying to find the cheapest source of 35mm XP2 36 shot rolls including postage. Would probably get 5 at once unless 10 is dirt cheap.

I keep my own spreadsheet, only 35mm, but it has to be checked each time. Useful to know where to start, though.

I suspect your best bet is AG Photographic, who do a 10-pack for £51.40, plus £4.94 delivery. Most other prices are nearer £6 a roll, plus delivery. Might be worth looking at your local Boots; if they are still £6.99 BOGOHP that would be £10.49 for two rolls. But if they've gone up to £7.99 then £11.99 is a bit less competitive (though no postage costs).

AG was the best I had found. Hoping to do better still :)

Best I've got is Amazon at 55.59 for a 10 pack including delivery.

Got another three pack of superia while I was at it.

Hi there, long time lurker and I thought I should chime in and mention that the Lomography website is good for film. I have recently bought HP5 120 and TriX 400 35mm for £4 a roll, if you spend over 75 you get free delivery too.

Nice one. Some good prices there.

Also some weird and wonderful "boutique" film.

Boutique prices too.
