One of the things I have done recently is convert our phone system to an IP PBX (yes, I know :geek: ). I use PBX in a Flash which is ready to roll PBX software based on asterisk. It has a reasonably large following and has its own forum etc. I check in regularly, but the last few days, I've been getting errors. On checking today, I was presented with a google+ account page and this link as one of the top links on the page:

Makes very, very salutary reading....

If only I understood a word of what you were saying :bonk:
Backup, check it works, don't assume someone else will do it for you, then backup again.

Very very very true.

We learnt the hard way, but only lost 3 days of data. We now do all our own backups on all web servers. We have just had to get 2 servers in New Zealand, one for customers and one as a backup (can also failover to it)

Exactly, until you have tested your "restore" procedure you cannot be sure you have a successful backup :)

And they weren't able to recreate the forums. The forum page now says:

The original PIAF Forum was destroyed in a catastrophic 2-disk RAID failure. Most of the original message content (100,000+ messages minus the posters' names) is now available in PDF format. Please come join us in the new Google+ PIAF Forum Community.

PDF format and a Google+ page. That's one destroyed virtual community - it won't work on G+.....

It is a warning to not only check your own backups, but look into the solutions you use and their backup procedure (if they will tell you)
