the hypocrisy of The Star, The Mail and The Express

Richard Littlejohn writes regular columns for the Daily Mail and apparently was one of the fiercest critics on immigration, asylum seekers and political correctness. However, he refused to appear on Question Time with Nick Griffin accusing him of being a racist. Short memory indeed.
 
Truth and morals are long gone from the newspaper industry. Their only purpose is to make a profit and if that means ludicrous sensationalist headlines to sell more copies then that's what you get.

I was tempted to say that perhaps some are worse than others, but when I gave it a bit more thought... they're all as bad as one another.

I just wonder when even bad English weather will be blamed on migrants.
To me the biggest hipocrisy so far is when tabloids are writting about proud English values :cuckoo: in contecst of evil immigration.

Yes, the Mail in particular likes to send the irony meter through the roof. However, it MOSTLY likes to slag off NG because it knows that it's loyal readers will then post their OWN well balanced views and opinions, and it can reaffirm it's belief that everyone secretly agrees with NG like the mail does

What is wrong with some of the headlines re: immigration. Just because you want to cut down on that does not make you racist. There has been some preferential treatment given to immigrants in certain places, that is wrong. Why should the Koran be taught in schools? We are one of the most populated countries in Western Europe. There is a hell of a difference between that and some of the BNP's policies. No hypocrisy there.
 
I just watched Question time with Nick Griffin on iplayer... that really is some scary viewing. Even though I am born and bread british, I am black, and I really worry for myself and my children if the BNP gets into power...

I wouldn't panic just yet ;)

Luckily the majority of the voting public are not knuckle dragging morons. While some may have views on immigration most are not outright racists and realise that the BNP is not what this country needs as a leading party, regardless of the mess that recent governments have made.
 
the papers are scary...and it's even scarier to think that people believe what is written in them...however, people do.
the point made in the first blog post is that the BBC allowed a very serious topic to be handled like schoolboys bickering...it was an amazing opportunity to shoot down every one of Griffin's ideas and statements with just a tiny amount of logic and knowledge.
but it just turned into jeering and smug name calling. rubbish

Don't worry too much. Most of us don't think like that at all. It's just a very small minority of idiots who like to make themselves heard.

In my opinion there are two types of racism. The first is malicious and hateful and needs to be erradicated. The other type is one of education and peer pressure such as just carrying on the opinions and thoughts of our parents etc. without really thinking about it. There is no real malice behind it but perhaps just a clinging on to old fashioned ideas. It's not really racism as such, more a sort of 'differentism' (if that's a word!).

Having watched Question Time myself, I would also like to have seen Jack Straw get a grilling about Labour's failures over the years, not just on the immigration issue, but also about MP's expense allowances and the general handling of the economy. I would have been interested to hear also from the Tory MP on how the Conservatives would deal with these issues, rather than the slanging match we witnessed. Quite frankly, I found the whole programme a farce.

Point by point.

1, Why do we need to cut down on imigration ?

2, Where is your evidence that immigrants get preferential treatmet?

3, The Koran is only taught in faith schools the Catholics, Protistents , and the Jewish community have been doing this in their own schools for years.
Religious education in state schools is taught to inform children of the differing faiths NOT to convince them to Join.

4, As for being over populated , I think you will find that in line with Italy our population was declining how many people do you know now with five kids not many I bet, There is strong evidence that visitors to this country leave when they cannot get employment a good example being the Polish population whao have returned back to Poland due to the downturn in the housing and construction market.

the thread isnt really meant to be about politics (much that i'd love to get into it). So we need to steer back to the subject of newspapers before it breaks the rules :)

-The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country;
- The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country;
- The Times is read by people who actually do run the country;
- The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country;
- The Financial Times is read by people who own the country;
- The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country;
- The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.
- The Sun is read by people who don’t care who runs the country, as long as she’s got big ;).

On the subject of Nick Griffin, I just read a comment a friend has put on his Myspace page. He said that Nick Griffin looks like someone has stretched luncheon meat over a toad!

Easiest way to sop the papers getting to us? Stop reading them. That's what I did. What did it for me was the stupidity of the sun. They ran a story one week about how the armed forces were a bunch of baby-murdering, prisoner-torturing murderers, then the following week they ran a story about how great the armed forces were...after (what I'm guessing) was public outcry against them.

**** the papers, they make most of what they print up anyway, it's all sensationalist ********.
 
I gave up buying a daily paper a long time ago, it's yesterday's new anyway, already seen on TV or the net. All they're interested in is selling more copies, and profit, so I have little or no faith in them at all.

The local weekly ones are different and can be useful for keeping an eye on what's going on in your immediate area.

but these papers essentially make up headlines that totally sensationalise the facts and they play to people's fears, heightening the feeling that immigration is waaaay more of a problem, to a racist end.
It is entirely insidious how these newspapers will slyly stick this kind of scaremongering in wherever they can, in quite a subtle way often, so that you take it in drip by drip, without realising it.

The funniest things I have read about immigration are on the BBC's Have Your Say website.

Along the lines of: "I had become so incensed with the immigration problem in the UK that I moved to Canada".

They don't seem to see the irony.
