No Idea, it just is. as I understand it (I may be wrong and often (nay, almost always) am) the inside lane is usually no.1 and left empty.

top tip - we don't do subtle or tasteful on this thread - if you can introduce a meerkat, dragon, flying shark, explosion, pictures on walls, ships in bottles , or refferences to zero cool's recent nuptials, or anything similar, (or all of the above) so much the better
