well done christine... good skills!

good pic for editing too... bit different than the norm

ok thought I would try something but maybe should have spent a bit more time with it but here goes anyway..

I went off on a tangent and wondered about a classic portrait... discovered how hopeless I am at blending layers so the joins are next to invisible. With just the flowers and nails it seemed to be missing something...

This is why I only ever crop my photos! :bang:

...stay in this thread

I've been trying to polish up the nails and change the colours of the little flower things for the last hour and half. I think I might ditch that idea as i'll never get it as good as that. Nice one, Andy.

The method I used in GIMP was basically a form of selective colouring.

I duplicated the layer four times, and basically used a tool to change the Hue in each of those three layers. The fourth layer, on the top, without any changes was just a selection of each little group of flowers then the eraser tool to bring the first colour layer through from underneath.

I then merged that down, and created the second selection and erased that so that the next colour came through, merged that down and repeated for the last colour.

say that again.... i lost track half way through

There is a colour swap in the Gimp now but it doesn't always work as you'd hope.

Thank you - ages since I last won :)

This is a bit different, if it is too uninspiring I will put something else up otherwise will choose winner on Wednesday late afternoon sometime. I am trying to grow my nails and had some holographic foils on them - very difficult photographing your own hands and one of the few self portraits I have done.

hmmm - how can i get a meerkat into this picture

BT have (finally) fixed by broadband - sort of , my "8MB" line is currently giving me 2MB

Does this help..there is probably a far easier way

Create 3 seperate colour layers.
On top layer, make a selection using tool of choice and then Erase contents. The layer below comes through. I've selected the left hand side here, erased the contents you can see the green layer below coming through.

Now merge down Top layer

Then repeat selection on Top Layer, different area, erase that, RED will be the next colour through and merge down (do this for all colour layers you create).

So you will be left with two layers, the Top Layer with the colours merged, and the original/background layer which you can now bin.

Me too. Been changing the individual flower colours but got thirsty and went to the pub :)
To be continued tomorrow..

oh......my......god!

WHAT HAVE I MISSED!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure how you’d go about this but does anyone think it’s worth setting up a ‘How would you edit this’ winners/runner up showcase area.

I guess it could be set up here at TP or on flickr or deviant. I only say this as I was looking back over this thread, looking for inspiration on what to do with Christine’s hand flower pic:bang: and thought what a shame the winners/runners up are left in the closet. There have been some crackers, serious and fun, and I for one wouldn’t mind taking a look through all these in a single place. Just a thought!

If you win you could have this

stamped next to your edit. This thread being what it is an all!

Hells teeth, I spent far too long on this.
Each coloured flower has it's own adjustment layer so they're all slightly different. Either hue/sat or gradient. Then blending mode of linear light.
Same with the nails only normal blending
Lastly, clone out small skin blemishes on the thumb and put extra flower in.

good idea.

what do you think of this an intro to an 'invite only' group on flickr?

A collection of images submitted to the 'How Would You Edit This Game' thread on talkphotography.co.uk.

The thread has proved an inspiration to a lot of members and motivated them to learn more about the workings of photo editing software and it's capabilities.
Contributors edit the original image in any way they feel... humorous, serious, moody, gritty, bloody, meerkatty (?)

The group is invitation only and images are not necessarily owned by the contributor. This group is 'meerly' to showcase the edits of the TP members.

it would be invite only so that it doesn't hammered with images from all the place. i think we'd have to rename every image with our username and then refer to the original image in the description.

would we have any issues with google images? we're only showcasing them aren't we? or is that a no no?

Right thats it. I give up! you've even got the same coloured nails as i was doing. :'(

Really good edit and retouching.

Random but was experimenting with borders and creating patterns in PS:

There are some pretty edits here. I would rather keep the pictures here, rather than putting them on flicker or anywhere else, why not just start a new thread with nothing but the winners pictures. I think half the fun is seeing what we start with though and the processes they go through, not just the winners.

I thought I would have a play as well, was going to put meercat claws on but got distracted by another idea - as so often happens :D

Yeah but no but…

Hosting on Flickr would mean everyone would need to have a Flickr account, not all do. And would also mean I would have to host my competition entry on my Flickr account, and I don’t want to do that as there crap, lol. :D

You may/will have copyright problems too. :nono::bonk:

Sorry Roger, and thanks. I almost did the nails differently. It is a slight variation to make them look like gold-leaf which was looking good. I just liked the colours better.

found this one a real challenge. But came up with this eventually.

are all those fingers on one hand? She's not from Norfolk you know

Good edit that BTW

bit of a vintage effect... very simple really. And a muted selective colour on the flowers.
