I was wondering if anyone was a member or has been a member of The Guild of Photographers?

I have a £15 discount and have been wondering if it was worth getting membership so want to hear from those who have been a member.

I know of a couple of girls who are members and both get an enormous amount of enjoyment as well as help by those who tutor them.

I'm a member of the guild and it really is very good. I enjoy the facebook forums and the newsletters. Ive not tried the competitions and image of the month yet but many say it is a useful way of getting some feedback. Well worth a try.

I looked into it at one point and it seemed like a lot of money for next to nothing and most lot of the features that they mention as being inclusive actually incur an additional fee; including competitions and reviews. I actually "bit the bullet" and signed up but once I had seen the members area and how limited everything is I demanded my money back.

I used to be a member of the RPS and that is very much the same sort of thing. They both put an emphasis on being able to use their logo which means nothing other than the fact it might look good to potential clients. I used the RPS for a bit of training but then it only gives you about £10 discount so I never really got my moneys worth. The magazines they send out are simply garbage.

It depends on what you're looking to get out of it I suppose and whether you will use the discounts enough to make it worth the entry fee.

Thanks guys. I may look into joining it in a month or so, just to give it a try.
Having to pay additional fees for competitions is a bit off putting.
