I'm trying!... You guys are awesome there, I've totally lost my way with it all, I did by couple film rolls though to help it come back :D

Sent from Button Moon.....

2 words. Spanish Flu. Odd system building up off/over Spain and working its way towards us. Expect heat and thunderstorms. Somewhere! (One of my wife's students is a forecaster at the Met office.)

Thunder storms and heavy rain on and off most of the night, not had much sleep

We were woken at 2.30 by a fabulous, massive thunderstorm over North London that upset all the animals and then rained on heavily for a couple of hours.

It particularly impressed the "big, brave" tomcat who hadn't wanted to come inside at midnight!

Lots of thunder and lightning from 1.30 until 3ish, but hardly any rain spookily.

Benji was very happy to be up and watching it all with me and then went out again.

........he said yours sounds like a pussy.......;)

Mr Mumble says he'll see Benji any time round the back of the dustbins! :bat:

... but if it's raining can they sort ot out indoors ... with an eating contest!! :)

As Benji maintains his svelte figure with at least 4-5 pouches a day plus dry food he says "bring it on, Softy" :D

I must be sleeping better now I'm retired ... didn't hear a thing yet local weather girl says it was tremendous!

not a bad one here near northants, also meant the kitten snuggled in closer for hugs and kisses instead of thinking it's play and bite time lol ...........not so impressed with the downpour right at school run time though

Unusually for us (I'm generally fading by 8pm and asleep by 9!) we went out for a quick bite to eat after Mrs Nod's evening teachings. For some reason the parking places were all rammed close to where we were going so I had to park about a furlong away. Just as we got to the restaurant it started spitting a few biggish drops but by the time we left, there were flashes, bangs and more big drops. Very warm though so we didn't mind getting mildly moist. Stinking hot last night.

hurumph ,,,,,missed us about ten miles to the west ,,,,,,,maybe tomorrow , maybe someday ,ooopps nearly went into a Pretenders song

Approx 02:30 and then again around 04:30
Noisy bloody thing woke me up :(

Got to Wellingborough and it started raining heavier and heavier.
A few rumbles of thunder a little sheet lightning.............. Scary........
Nothing really terrifying in that, I know,
but what failed to mention was that it was at the highest point for maybe 5 miles or so.
And the guys were up there sinking gas (Methane) pipes with a circa 20 meter drilling rig.

I just stayed well outta their way :D

Just a quick phone snap as the weather was closing in

Are you mental? you must be a very sound sleeper :-)

Hahaha!

Rather you than me Chris, i didn't even want to take umbrellas on the school run with just rumbles, incase lol.. let alone be around anything like that.... madness springs to mind

Ian if you could turn down the sun a smidge, that would be grand. Ta. :-)

I knew having the car washed was a mistake! Last night's rain brought a load of (?)Spanish dust down with it and it's filthy again. Never mind, the nice Eastern European gentlemen can do it again next time I'm passing.

In neon lights I should think :D

Oh I can assure you I was more than a few meters away from that at all times :D

According to the warnings its not looking pretty, depending on what part of the country you are in.
South of London, in a line from Brighton to Southend, Via Crawley,
In coming!
Lets just say that it looks like you guys had better build an Ark ;)

Pretty much a none event here :(
A few rumbles and flashes.
2 mins of thunder spots.
They think its all over....... It is now :(

No idea what happened here, according to the weather on BBc we had quite a bad night, but after a busy couple of days and be stuck in traffic with
temps outside @ 30 I slept like a log last night, raining now though :(

Cat didn't like the storms much. Which meant that we didn't sleep too well! The mugginess didn't help the situation much either.

On the bright side, I don't need to water the outdoors plants this weekend!

On the dimmer side, cat caught a waterlogged sparrow and it was an ex-sparrow by the time she brought it over the fence. :( It is her first kill this summer though so the bells are working. One of her previous catches (live release) did get had by the magpies before it flew off a couple of months ago.

Another storm rumbled through during the night here too.

:)great light show last night , then again at 02:50 this morning ( as my neighbour above said )

this pic was handheld at somewhere between ten and fifteen seconds ,,,its amazing what a big flash can do

All quiet here no thunder and lightshiws, heavy rain starting to fall now, no wind currently 17'c outside, chickens all sheltering under their house.

Nice!!!
There was a point in last nights first storm when it was just constant light and noise. I loved it!

yeah me too ,and everytime i saw a bolt drop over your direction , i said a little prayer ( thank F it wasnt over here :D )

In all the excitement, I've almost forgotten about this thread!

But, indeed, yesterday (Fri 18th July) at 8 pm, a "surprise" multicelled thunderstorm system moved in from France and slammed head-on at this part of the world.

The leading gust front or shelf cloud. I was more frightened of that than the lightning which followed because those usually produce strong gusty winds (not my favourite weather phenomenon) and even spawn tornadoes (thankfully, it didn't on this occasion).

Once that passed over us, then the "core" of the storm cell arrived an hour later and I got treated to a fairly prolonged lightning display. Surprisingly little rain fell so it made it a joy to spectate and take photos off, as you can see below.

Taken from the relative safety of my front door porch at 9 pm to 10 pm.

And I even got to have a second thunderstorm in the small hours but that was more "causal" in nature and was the one meant to be as forecast anyway.

However, right now (Saturday) we are still under this warm and moist unstable airmass coming in from France so the potential for further thundery rain and thunderstorms will be there for the rest of today and into tonight before it all becomes confined to the very far South East tomorrow.
Then we can all relax as we go into next week with our weather being dry and settled with sunny spells, as well as being warm or even hot.

Oops! Misheard Mrs Nod when I heard Spanish Flu - it was actually Spanish PLUME.

JUST missed a soaking earlier - had to pop into town for 1/2 an hour or so so took the bike down. 2 minutes after I got home, the heavens opened and it persisted down for 10 minutes or so.

:D Actually, you wouldn't be too far away from being right as this humidity and heat is enough to make some of us feel ill. :puke:

Luckily, I should be able to park in town when I have to go down at 5.45 so can sit in climate controlled luxury for a while!

Last night was a bit sweaty...
