Blew a hooley down here last night. Didn't do the sea wall at Dawlish much good - shame the main line rail link further West runs on top of it. Luckily, no damage here apart from a fence panel that could do with a new capping but that was rotten anyway (I blame the cat - it's where she sharpens her claws...)
 
This thread is surprisingly quiet - I guess we are all getting fed up with all these storms.
Somerset has recently been more like my traditional fortnight in the highlands over Christmas and New Year, except they are used to weather like this.

However, something new is happening right now - SNOW!
I know lots of you have seen snow this Winter, but I haven't!
It's white outside, but it's only a thin coating and I think it won't last long.
But it still counts and snow in my books!
 
We had a few rather wet flakes this morning, nothing to settle but definitely more snow than sleet!
 
There was snow here the other day.

The metoffice long range forecast apparently said it was going to be a dryer than average winter which should have given every one a warning that it would be wettest ever.
 
Still no power here absolutely NUTS!!!yesterday with the winds, cottage is fine thank god, couple of trees down away from our cottage and thankfully there is none overhanging us also a stone wall collapsed out on our lane, keep safe all.

Hi all. Man alive, in all my 34 years of being into meteorology, this is turning out to be the most longest and painful winter I have ever experienced. Needless to say, all those news articles and data really speak for itself so I can't really add to it all.
After a night of severe gales along Southern England tonight, I'm hoping that should be the last of this sequence of very active depression systems crashing onto the UK and things should try to calm down with longer dry spells as we go into next week.
But, all this has left me feeling mentally exhausted that I've gone off trying to forecast the weather and ended up hoping that the next storm won't be too severe as we all worry about our properties.
To think that I was concerned about drought-like conditions when I first started this thread in 2010.

I was beginning to worry that the good old "fall guy" that is is Global warming, was at fault :D
 
Yesterday was glorious! We were planning a chores type day but got an e-mail suggesting a revisit to the Dartmoor Zoological Park - far more fun than picking up cat worming drops etc! Just need to sort/resize a few snaps for here.
 
Well, we now have plenty of logs stock piled for the fire, enough to keep us going for two winters I say, due to the trees down over the last couple of weeks etc hope you all are well ? and fingers crossed as I have this Friday off work :runaway: which has been none stop since xmas! I usually climb Snowdon atleast once a month, hoping this will be my first trip up of the year, and the weather plays ball, how we looking Ian ?
 
I'd say I would leave it until next week as our weather continue to be unsettled and changeable with showers for the rest of the week and into the weekend as well as it turning less mild - in fact, it'll be quite cold in the wind over exposed areas (a notable wind chill). Although, that said, tomorrow will be one of the better days with more in the way of sunshine.
The road to spring-like weather is looking like a long and bumpy one.

We are still getting a fair bit of wind and rain here, but thankfully we seemed to have missed the worst of it.

Chilly here but blue sky. Typically, I'm stuck in the house while Mrs Nod attends her first aid course. Got a new camera to play with too! Might go for a wander after the postman's been - or, if the asshats in Swansea have done the decent thing, maybe even a drive!
 
I think this is a sun pillar?
Taken out of my window last night.
Clouds were moving, but the pillar wasn't. I photographed it for over 5 mins before it started to fade.
If it is a pillar, how common are they in the UK ?

Just googled that Duncan and would also say it is, not sure I've come across one but shall be in the lookout along with the sundogs, beautiful scene well captured, fingers crossed Andy and co have some nice weather/light in Iceland too.

Pretty much the same here a few miles south :)
Grass cut, climbers slash and burned
(my favourite type of gardening :D)
 
Did a bit of pruning yesterday afternoon and said "Sod it!" today - went up onto the moor (Dartmoor) for a couple of gentle wanders and a spot of lunch. Forgot my hat, so slightly sunburned...

Next week is a bit busy but the weather's supposed to be pretty good all through.

I only took the top 3 inches off, in the vane hope that the rest would dry out TBH.
Its not actually stopped growing through the winter, I don't think :(
 
Mornin' all. Indeed, high pressure is going to settle over the UK all this week and even into the weekend. However, it won't result in warm temperatures and wall-to-wall sushine as any subtle positioning of this high pressure along with weak decaying weather fronts getting tangled up in it will make the difference between mild sunshine and chilly overcast conditions.
But at least it will be generally dry and settled for the next few days and that alone will help with the flood recovery process, it could be worse given it is still "only" March.

It's all about making the most of this spell of spring-like weather:

As we make this (surprisingly) quick and smooth transition from Winter (or rather, Autumn) to Spring as high pressure looks set to carry on being close by in the next seven days at least . . .

Having said that, there is a chance of a spell of colder weather with some wintry shower towards the North East of the UK over the weekend but it is likely to be a short-lived event.

Well the sun has finally made it through here at last, (after the week-end)
Its been very dull, very grey and chilly up to about an hour ago.

Hi Chris! It has been much the same here, it is only in the past hour that it has started to brighten up after a day of overcast skies. But at least it is staying nice and dry and winds are being fairly light so that will do for me.
 
Just a quick heads up before hitting the sack. There is a risk of widespread fog over England and Wales tonight where it will be locally dense, thus making for a very murky start to tomorrow. Bear that to mind when tackling the morning rush hour as visibility will be poor in places.
 
For once Ian, and just the once I may add, you are too slow :p

I had that yesterday. (Weds am) Till well passed midday.
The sun made it through by about 2pm.
Today is bright and sunny with a light breeze :)
 
:D Actually, it remained quite fog-free here at Folkestone last night and into today, but I did get this capture of fog hanging over the hills to the north of the town last night.
