Afternoon all, it has been mild, muggy and damp all day where the 2.7 mm of drizzle is making it feel all clammy, although in the last hour the occasional chinks of brightness has caused the temperatures to lift up to 14.3 C which is very mild for this time of year.
Southern England is currently in a "wedge" of warm air as part of a wavering depression system coming in from the Atlantic. I'm expecting the wind to pick up but it won't be anywhere as rough as what we have had of late.

Not posting to rub your nose in it Chris, honest! it's just so damn weird to have such warmth at this time of year.
 
Afternoon all from a rather dull and overcast Folkestone, but it is drying up after this mornning's dampness. If the forecast for the next couple of days are anything to go by then perhaps this might come in handy . . .

To add a bit more detail to it all, bright spells and showers across the country for tomorrow and into Saturday, especially over Western and Southern parts where some of them may be heavy with local thunder and hail.
However, on Sunday, most places will get off on a cold, dry and bright start as a ridge of high pressure moves over the UK . . . at least until the next round of general cloud and rain move in from the Atlantic later on in the day.
Remaining unsettled and changeable for the first half of next week but there are signs of things settling down later on in the week as high pressure builds over us.

I know Richard :) Its crazy weather, we've had some of it too,
do doubt we will "pay" for it later though, with several inches millimeters of snow grinding the country to a halt before too long.

Actually double figures, light breeze, and a wierd yellow sperical object in the sky through broken cloud today :thumbs:

But on a serious note, yes, the medium range charts are showing a cooler outlook for the second half of this month but it's too far out to lay any real confidence on it. In truth, I have no idea on what kind of winter we can expect, whether it'll be a mild and kind one or whether it'll be peppered with significant cold snowy events, it's pretty much anyone's guess.

Not very helpful but that's me being honest. I just prefer to tackle the short range forecast (up to 4 days) on a daily basis.
 
Incidentally, closer to home, I have recorded measurable rainfall every day since 31st October. I'm now 17 mm short of reaching the 100 mm mark for a month and we're only into the second week of November!

Not bad for what is normally a dry part of the UK, at least it'll be a while before we start worrying about water restrictions - a world apart from what it was like when I first started this thread three years ago! Goes to show how nature is very good at balancing itself out.

PS: Not sure what happened there, my internet went all glitchy just as I was sending off this post, hence the duplicate posting.

Bloody weather, its been that driving drizzle all day in South Bucks :(
I got bloody soaked, the birds barely got a flight today, before they were soaked :(

Talk about drowned rats, not even close to a drowned Gyr x Saker
the lanner is about as water-proof as a sponge, that didn't help either :(

Right, that's it Guys, I'm bloody well hibernating,

;) Indeed as we are in a "warm sector", characterised by low cloud, hill fog, persistent drizzle and of course the mildness.

A cold front will be moving slowly south east wards across England during the course of tomorrow, introducing clearer and cooler air in it's wake (a bit like what we had on Sunday). However, I'm not expecting this cold front to arrive here at Kent until at least mid-afternoon.

I have a feeling that it all fell in Gerrards Cross TBH :(
TBH looking at the puddles etc it looks like a damned sight more than 2.1mm fell
It must have been raining constantly, for at least 12 hours :(

Best point out that this cartoon is NOT a true representation of my forecast - I just wanted to do this mickey take on the Express, Daily Mail and the Daily Star headlines.

Just to summarise, the northern half of Scotland will get their first real taste of wintry weather as we go into next week (it has been snowing over the Scottish hills since early October) which is all normal.
But there'll be less in the way of wintry precipitation the further south you go but it'll feel bitterly cold all the same.

According to Radio 2 tonight,
Its turning colder through the week and we can (nearly) all expect a dusting of snow
at some point next week..................

Oh good there goes the Motorways, train lines and air travel :rolleyes:

Not me; batteries will be charged for camera of course, and I will be hitting the hills even if I need to hike miles or should I use public transport if snow falls lol

Addendum, I've just seen a gritter driving through the estate.

That's a sure sign rain is on the way :D

I'm very good, ta as I continue to plod along taking each day as they come.

I, too, have seen a gritter go past by. That's jinked it, then.

But I do think that those hoping for an early winter wonderland as we go into the middle of next week will end up feelig disappointed as the snow falls at sea level over the far North of Scotland and over high ground further south as our winds turn in from the north and then the north east.
However, hard frosts will become a regular thing over the bulk of the UK as night time temperatures fall below freezing, along with icy patches as rain water runoff freezes over.
 
Talking of winter wonderland? I found it very interesting this year Ian especially when we had a scattering of snow on the summit of Snowdon 25/05/2013 which I recorded and photographed too. interesting times ahead indeed.
 
I was very careful not to admit to forgetting my raincoat this morning - had I done so out loud, I'm certain the heavens would have opened on me at the furthest point from the club house! Not the warmest round but I didn't suffer too much! I even managed a genuine par on a couple of holes. First time doing more than a few holes - only did 9 today but enjoyed it (apart from the last hole where I didn't so much score a bogey as a whole sinus full of 'em!!!)

Are you sure that's not the TV screen? Or are you looking at the mountains?

The first year we went to Crete, we went parascending. Very surreal being in 30 degree heat over turquoise water with people sunbathing on the beach and snow on the peaks inland!
 
FOG.... 7.0c. Wintry showers Wednesday but more likely to be of sleet for my area.
 
What a weirdly changeable day it's been here in North Kent. Crisp blue sky this afternoon but this morning it was very wintry with cold wind and heavy rain then we had some hailstones and a very brief 3 minute flurry of snow before tipping it down again
