Was quite amusing last night - my village made the national news.
Cynically, only because a news crew got trapped in the snow and had to spend the night with local farmers.
But the TV report yesterday AM had one of my local pubs in the background - wonderful! :D

That's because skies has become clearer thus allowing temperatures to drop sharply tonight.
Looks like you'll pick up some more snow tomorrow afternoon as a weather front moves in from the Atlantic but then is expected to turn back into as rain as the milder air finally takes over.
The weekend looks set to be wet and windy, especially on Sunday, thus producing a renewed risk of flooding over Northern and Western parts of the UK, what with the laying snow still about along with the still-frozen soil.
 
Its been hovering just above zero today,
a "bit of a weather warning, for this area too.
Well, the over head signs on the M40 said so, so it must be true :D
Currently +2 with predicted overnight lows of -8

Indeed that was the case.
It clouded over and temp rose to 0 at dawn.
Peak temp today was a dizzy 1.5deg, highest I've seen for about 10 days.
 
Mornin' all from what is now a bright and sunny Folkestone - finally the unremitting endless overcast gloomy sky has given away to clear blue skies and sunshine!

However, once again I have missed out on the snow (fell as mostly light rain last night - as expected). Having had a bit of a scout around online, it does look like areas in a line from Derbyshire though to Yorkshire picked up the most snow with up to 10 inches last night.

Anyway, finally, this cold spell has come to an end with Atlantic fronts coming in from the west for the next couple of weeks.
This is where we will have to think about renewed flooding risks, especially at first with the heavy rain and melt water all finding it diffcult to soak into still-frozen soil. The Western side of the UK will be most at risk of all that.

Although it never really got going properly over here in the first place (I have experienced more notable snow events in the past), I am appreciating the hazy sunshine shining into my hobby room as I type.

Ian, what's on the cards for the forthcoming couple of weeks? Is it set to warm up now, or we looking at another cold blast coming our way?
 
Fairly large thunderstorm has just hit us out of nowhere this evening, knocked the power off but came straight back on, the weather is so unpredictable at the moment

Very unpredictable indeed!
It chucked it down with rain, most of the evening and into the night.
Yet, less than 20 miles away, they had > 1 inch of snow!
Its been around a high of 7oC here, this afternoon.
That's the first time its really been above freezing point for at least a week.

 
Heavy rain with a few claps of thunder and lightning here at the moment :nuts:

Hi Marcel!

It is pretty certain that it is going to be very much on the mild and changeable side for the next fortnight - all back to normal as we get to recieve our weather in from the Atlantic. Although, having said that, it'll also be very windy everywhere with gales for the North and West of the UK - more like Autumn rather than Winter.
There are distant signs of the cold and snow returning to the UK as we go into the second week of February but it's very much a long way off in forecasting terms.

Indeed, the radars are picking up thundery type activity over West Wales and the South West of England right now (11 pm Sat evening) as the cold front follows straight behind the warm front.

At the moment it's just low cloud and drizzly stuff here in Kent - as per usual (was very much like that when we had the cold spell!).

Got woken up this morning by high winds and torrential rain, back to normal then :(

It could well be as the same thing is trying to break through after the dull and wet start to the morning. :eek:
Some places had thunder and lightning last night as the "clearance" cold front moving eastwards over the UK became more energetic than I thought.

Its pretty much the same here, although a degree or two higher.
After last nights rain, there is not a trace of the white stuff.
 
The sun is out now, just been to my local nature reserve with the camera and discovered that my boots aren't as good is deep water as they are in deep snow :eek::lol::lol:
 
Sun's been out all day and so have we been, with the roof down! Thank something for my new Irvin jacket, warmer than a warm thing!

We are indeed being hit by rather windy weather at the moment interspersed with quite heavy downfalls.

What the heck is wrong with the weather this week!!! (Not that I'm complaining of course)
 
on friday night we had about 3-4cm of snow - completely covering everything again, it was amazing to see that by sunday morning it had all completely gone. my weatherstation reported a high of 16.7 degrees today.

my money is on another blast of cold middle of february - if you remember, we had that really, really cold snap where it got to -14 in places on the 10/11 of february last year - we seem to get another freeze then, before we start the spring.
 
Indeed, spring has sprung today (although Mark's 16.7 C might be a tad on the high side - sounds like the temperature sensor has been exposed to direct sunlight. Bear in mind that temperatures are always recorded in the shade as it's more constant).
I do think winter-type weather will have another swipe at the UK as we go into the second week of weather. The 15 dayer medium range outputs has been suggesting a trend towards that, but of course it is a long way off in forecasting terms..
 
Despite the current dryness, I shall be taking the car when I have to go out shortly - the cloud cover is now solid having crept in from the West. I was hoping to take the bike since it's far easier to park at the health centre (blood test time...) but although my new jacket would keep me warm (Irvin flying jacket), I'm not sure it'll be that waterproof!

Even if you took the bike and it didn't rain, it'll be the strong wind which might make it a bit hairy.

I'm a bit hairy (not to mention strong wind!!!).
A bit breezy overnight but settled a bit now. I'm off out again in a bit (to meet up with Rich [U8myUFO] among other things) but need to pick up more than the top box can carry so will have to take the car again. Looking forward to getting back on the bike - will be the first time since June or July (and the op).

Good afternoon - and it is a good one what with the sun dancing around in clear skies and only patchy cloud cover - a vast imrpovement on yesterday.
However, it does look like being on the wild and windy side over Southern England on Friday as a deepening low pressure centre crosses over the English Channel.
Going to try some wire wool spinning with a friend on the beatch tonight, it'll be dry but the freshening wind might make it a bit tricky. See how I get on anyway.

And on topic, while it's certainly not HOT down here today, I've been outside in shirtsleeves for a while and still have feeling in my fingers!
