The Great Meteorological Thread

Dang, that looks very wet in the second photo, Duncan! Good lighting in both photos, though.

Anyway, good mornin' from a rather overcast and misty Folkestone. Looks like our weather has reverted back to it's default "boring" setting. :gag: :D
Still, it did turn out very nice yesterday which gave me the motivation to do some outdoory-type jobs (lopping back a overhanging sycamore tree and cemented in some small pot holes where the council pathway meets up against my garden path - that way my old mother won't trip over those holes!).

For those wanting the current forecast at a click of a button, here it is: http://thecloudmaster.webs.com/ :)

Well I've just been outside and the weather is cloudy and dull over here.. boring.

PS.. Morning Ian and all.
The weather in blighty wants too cheer up as we are flying to the UK on Thursday..

Mornin' Paul. It's very much the same here right now, dull and misty.

Hopefully things may become that little bit unsettled as we wear on into the second half of the week (that should mix things up a little bit).

Mornin' campers,
Its slighty cloud but set for a fair day with temp about 18c.
What its really done I will post tonight. LOL

PS. I want it hot in the UK now as we fly in tomorrow morning.

Mornin' Paul from a fairly bright Folkestone (much to my surprise!).

As for "hot" weather, not much chance of that happening as temperatures were in single figures over the South East yesterday as a pool of cold air was dragged in from France under a S.E. wind. :D

Best I can do for are for things to become a little milder and brighter for this neck of the woods over the next couple of days as winds turn more in from the S.W (in from the Atlantic), at least that should shift some of this murky gunk we have had of late.

Wouldn't mind some sun over the midlands! Yesterday was a nice day, blue sky and sunny, today so far is totally the opposite, damp atmosphere and grey cloud. All my daughter wants to know is when we will be getting snow!

I reckon it won't be until we are in the "right side" of (as in "after") Christmas before we get to see our first proper spell of wintry weather. Any major cold snaps in 2012 will be "fashionably late" this winter (end of January/beginning of February) but if and when it does arrive, it may do it in style.

Yep, and they are doing the same thing as it's currently 8.2 C here at Folkestone, along with low dull cloud cover - and that's pretty much the max temperature for today. :gag:

Hi Ian, I guess it just about struggled to around the even dozen oC early afternoon.
After a chilly misty start the sun broke through late morning, and did
share a little warmth with us
Oh and Paul, its showing as 6oc outside :)

This is more like it. :) After a week of overcast conditions, today's brightness came as a huge relief.

Taken at 10.30 am this morning using my trusty ol' Fuji S5600 while on a bike ride . . .

Mmmmm - that's lovely and atmospheric

Weather is cold and grey down here in the West country despite the BBC cloud map looking far more promising. I guess that's because I'm on the top of the highest hill in Somerset; it's probably quite nice elsewhere :suspect:

Good morning to you all.

Hi and welcome home, Paul. It's certainly being very nice and sunny here at Folkestone. Not as mild as I thought it would be at 11.6 C at 2.30 pm, but I felt the warmth from the sun quite easily as I popped out to get the newspapers.

It's being another fine and sunny morning here at Folkestone.

Two sunny days in a row around here . . . what went wrong? :suspect: :D

You've been lucky. We've been stuck in gloomy mist win an occasional glimpse of a hazy sun.

But this afternoon delivered in style
One of the best sunsets I've seen in a while. This is just a tiny bit of the whole spectacular skyscape. I'll be posting more from the session in a separate thread sometime tomorrow.

Very jealous! Indeed you just can't beat a decent coloured sunrise/sunset.

Anyway, mornin' all you slowly awakenin' souls from a rather overcast and murky Folkestone.
Fog over the South East of England will make for tricky driving conditions first thing this morning, that fog will be thick and dense in places so mind how you go on the motorways.
Hopefully most of that fog will lift as we wear on into the rest of this morning and be gone by mid-day - but only to lead to dull and damp conditions in the afternoon anyway.
It does look like the Western and Northern half of the UK will fare better in terms of brightness today.

My weather forecast blog has just been updated: http://thecloudmaster.webs.com/ :)

Hi Guys
Spent a long week-end up at Donna Nook (North Lincolnshire coast)
Seal watching.
After a misty start Sat and Sun, we couldn't have hoped for better weather / light.

As I have yet to post an image in this thread,
I caught this one just for the purpose.
Sundown (just a re-size and a tad sharpen)
At Donna Nook, well, facing in land anyway :)

Thanks :)
and you'll be pleased to hear that its been dull and misty all day today, here in the UK.
Although its still mild and 9oC as I type

Mornin' all you awakenin' souls from a fine, clear and cool Folkestone. Last night's weak cold front has done a grand job of shifting that horrible manky manky gloomy stuff.
I have a feeling it's going to make for a jolly decent photography day today (and hopefully ideal to carry out an evening mission I've had in mind for ages!).

Oh, and keep those weather-related photos coming in. Love that blood red sun, Cobra!

Gritters have gone out tonight, which is a surprise after such a mild day today

Well that'll teach me to open my gob :(
Took ages to scrape the ice off the van windows this morning.....
A single figure day too, but no breeze so it did feel pleasant in the
sunshine.

Thanks Ian

While on a bike ride along the sea front between Folkestone and Hythe at around 8 am this morning, I notice the sea was as calm as a mill pond. :)

This morning turned out bright and sunny, but then high cloud made it more hazy as we wore on into the afternoon.

I think it's about now we should think and talk about snowfalls and other winter-related stuff . . . but I cannot see anything remotely wintry in the foreseeable future! A total contrast to this time last year - that was when the Great Late Autumn Cold Snap began which lead to an icy snowy end of November and beginning of December!

By the 1st of December '10 - my street looked like this!

Have some more photos from that period to tease you with, but will roll them out over the next few days. :naughty:

How soon we forget!
(well I did anyway. I remember the snow fall, but had forgotten about an "early start" to the winter)

Indeed, that was a remarkable spell of wintry weather which started so early in the season . . . but then as soon as we stepped into 2011, the rest of that winter went along in a very uneventful and snowless fashion. It was most certainly a season of two halves.
I have a feeling this coming winter will be the polar (no pun intended) opposite; a mild start (like what it's being like right now) and then taken on a wintry theme by late January and into February - which how our more usual winters go along anyway.

Nice shot of the sea Ian... evening all.
Well tonight the sky is clear but cold, and its 12c at the mo. A small rise in temperture is forecast for the days ahead, so we shall see.

Well its all gone pear shaped its raining today.

Hi Paul.

Over here at Kent it's still very much on the dry side (no rain for over a fortnight now). It has turned breezy, though.
Things are now turning more unsettled and changeable over Scotland - with even some snow over the Scottish Highlands - and is likely to stay that way for the next few day.
But Kent looks set to stay dry for the next few days, which really isn't helping the underlying drought situation, even though the Atlantic is starting to wake up and bring in some active systems to the UK from there. With that in mind, I hope to see more in the way of rain as we go into December! My lawn is surviving on just morning dew alone!

Quite a nice but chilly morning, mostly clear and no frost :)
With a freshening breeze the pere lanner took the opportunity to go soaring
for 10 minutes, on the up draft.
Currently 9oC here, but does feel a little colder ;)

Very nice, Michael! Love the graduated colour effect in the background.

It's been a jolly nice ol' day here today, even though winter had officially arrived in certain parts of the UK. :D
