Yes - but only just!

Well, we've had a nice bit of rain this last week or so, which is what I asked for in the first place. The garden and allotment are truly grateful.

Getting back to summer (as in warm and sunny!) sounds great.

Oooo, that'a a nice example of a funnel cloud that ALMOST turned into a full-on waterspout. I would love to know the location of where that photo has been taken. I bet it's at the Portsmouth/Solent area as that location gets to see the most funnel clouds than anywhere else in the UK (it's all to do with the way the landscape is arranged - a mixture of land, sea and islands in a small area).

I, too, got to see one of those from my home location last year, but from a greater distance. Had to push the Fuji S5600's zoom to the limit to get it, I think those living on the french coast might have got a better view of it!

EDIT: Just read the title of that thread, it was at Brighton! Hehe, but I wasn't too far off it.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. Your support meant a lot. In fact it kinda validated my obsessional preparation, car full of gear and generally driving my family mad for a week beforehand. Just a quick tip though, don't wear white trousers if you think you may be kneeling a lot

A warm up over the South and East of the UK on Sunday and onwards is pretty much nailed on as an area of high pressure moves in from the south west. Up to 25 C inland is expected on Sunday - thus making for a very pleasant and warm end to Glastonbury.

Mild day today, with freshing winds, bought dark skies and heavy rain around 11am this morning,
after a short break for lunch, the rain is now back with
a vengeance (well this is the UK )

That's amazing!

I saw one touch down and cause a waterspout many years ago - at a children's sailing club in Lymington. It travelled across the water and flattened half the boats - the kids didn't know what had hit them.

Ok... there is only one way to put this... Norfolk is full of meteorological porn today...!

Lots of thunder and lightening.... more measurable rain than I can cope with (I ran out of mugs ) And lots interesting cloud formations... got plenty of pics so I'll see what I've got later on The so called 'drought' in Norfolk has most definitely been washed out!

Indeed, as that's where I get some of my best thunderstorms.

It's lovely and sunny here too, although there is a bit of a breeze - but still feels very warm in the sunshine when in sheltered areas.

I'm now starting to think that somewhere over the South East could juuuuuuuuust about nudge 90 F for a very brief time on Monday!

Boring here too - unless you count getting caught in sudden showers! The most exciting thing has been .... well.... err.... I can't think of anything! Norfolk sounds like the place to be!

Indeed. As well as temperatures rising up to 32 C inland over the South East on Monday, the signs are there for some very active thundery weather over the South and East on Sunday night, through Monday and into Tuesday.
However, how far North and West all that will head and how severe it will become are all debatable. But, at least there will be some actual weather to get excited over. :nuts: :bonk:
Actually, I took myself to bed early last night as I had one of those short but sharp migraine attack (don't get sick with it, thanks goodness), and I always seem to get those just before storms are expected!

Thank heavens I'm no longer in the greenhouse business.

Oh, good morning everyone from a bright and sunny Folkestone. I'm looking forward to taking photographs of a big firework display over the Harbour later on this evening. It's to launch the Folkestone Triennial, just hope low stratus doesn't come along to spoil the firework display!

Relatively **** here... Absolute nothing of interest. Just a blanket of cloud all day. Very very humid though. Coming out of the shop I work in which is air conditioned it really hits you how humid it was today!

It's been the exact same here, low stratus that refused point blank to break up (althought it did so in late afternoon but now fog and low cloud are rolling back in from the Channel again).
But yes, the humidity is now noteable, it won't take a lot for things to become very oppressive as winds come in from the south over Southern England and sunshine amounts increases tomorrow. I'm still willing to bet that 30 C (and even higher) will be achieved somewhere over the South East in the next 56 hours before it all ends in a bang (severe thunderstorms likely over the South East on Monday night onwards - up to 50 mm of rain is possible).

Ah cool - pardon the pun . In april I was out trekking in the sahara we saw maximums of 45 t'was lush. Most of the others were suffering badly from heat stroke etc... But me...i was loving every minute of it. Embracing the culture with a lovely climate in comfort

Citroens are better (says the owner of a C2). It's yet to let me down

Good mornin' everyone from a rather misty Folkestone. Am looking forlornly at the sheet white skies willing for the sun to break though. :shrug:

Eww no, 35 C and above is a bit too much for me, hehe. Especially since I have spent the best part of two decades working in such conditions as a tomato greenhouse farmer. Thank goodness I'm not doing that any more, especially right now. But the key thing is the humidity as it makes all the difference comfort-wise. 30 C with 95% humidity would be far more uncomfortable than 40 C with 20% humidity.


UPDATE: It's coming up to mid-day and I'm still looking forlongly at the sheet white misty skies and waiting for Mr Sunshine to put it's hat on.

I have a digital thermometer in the back garden and its is hovering around the 39.5-40oC Mark
and registering 40% humidity.
admittedly it is a bit of a "sun trap" though, now the sun id directly over head

Across "La Manche" Ian, it's wall to wall blue sky and was 29 degrees by noon but the humidity is only 37% currently....eases the discomfort a little.

Well, according to official sources, temperatures had ranged between 26 C to 28 C across England today but it didn't get any higher than 21 C at my coastal location due to sea breezes (at least the sun did break through the fog at 1.30 pm and ended up being good enough to sit out in the garden to top up my tan for the rest of the day).

Tomorrow, it does look like it's the turn of London, Kent and East Anglia that will get to receive the worse (or best, depending how you look on it!) of the heat and humidity as it climbs up to 33 C inland.

And then it all ends in a bang as thunderstorms flare up over the South East by 6 pm onwards and into the night. Localised flooding is likely as up to 60 mm of rain could fall from a single storm.

Tuesday is set to be rather cloudy and damp as the cooler and fresher air works it's way in from the west.

But the rest of the week is likely to turn out more summer-like and pleasant (sunny and dry but without the harsh heat and humidity) as high pressure re-assert itself over the UK.

I went to South Suffolk next to the River Orwell today and saw some starnge weather- well it seemed strange to me.One place next to the river was bright sunshine but just a couple of miles towards the estuary it was thick fog over the water but not on land.However you could see the fog/ low clouds blowing in places onto the land, like smoke from a fire.I took some photos but not sure if it will show up.

Yesterday the sun had finally smashed through the fog at around 1.30 pm and was sunny for the rest of the day.

Today? Well, let's put it this way, I am thanking the Good Lord that I no longer am a greenhouse worker. Hot sunshine under clear skies, that'll get those storms going once it all goes unstable later on today here at Kent.
