:D It's like something out of Groundhog day.

Indeed, we did get some rain yesterday, like Sue, it came in as a quick burst like a power shower at 1 pm yesterday afternoon, gave us 5.1 mm of useful stuff. My lawn had literally sprang back to life overnight! Grass is such resilient stuff.
 
High Cirrus here this morning too :)

Gonna take a wander down to the stream later on today, always a good indicator on how the local area if faring with the lack of water!


P.s. Nice to see a live thread talking about this kinda shizz. TP is truly a remarkable forum :thumbs:

Well, dunno about everyone in here but it's been a corker of a sunny day here at Folkestone. I had an afternoon nap on a deckchair in the front garden and now I'm all pink and stinging a lot.

Make the most of this bit of summer-like spell as it all falls apart as we go into next week with rain and thundery spells - even for the South East.
 
Pretty much the same here, most of the day Ian.
Some high cloud, light breeze and hot!
It did start to turn a little muggy mid afternoon with an increase in cloud cover.
But we were back to clear skies as the sun went down though.

Hi and mornin' Jean from quite a warm and bright Folkestone.

Indeed, it does look like some showery stuff will start to edge in from France and as it interacts with the cooler stuff of Arctic origin moving down from the north, that should trigger off some thundery type showery rain over the Southern half of England. That should start to take place at around Sunday mid-day and then lasting into Monday. I'd be very surprised if there are still some dry spots left behind after all that.
Indeed, if . . . no . . . WHEN . . . all that does come off, that will provide some MUCH needed rain for this neck of the woods.

There does look like a slow and gradual return to warmer and settled conditions more especially to Eastern and Southern parts of the UK as we wear on into the second half of next week but that's a long way off.
 
Thanks, Ian. I think you should take over from the meteorological office - I take your word as gospel! You've been spot on with all your predictions through this long-running thread :clap::clap::clap:

Right - I shall go and mow the lawn and not bother with watering things that will survive until tomorrow/Monday. :thumbs:

Yesterday was a lovely day here in Essex and today is just as warm. I have managed to get a bit sunburned which was very silly of me, but nothing bad. When I stay with my parents in Australia I am so careful to cover up and slap on the sun cream but I didnt even think of it going to Maldon ( Essex) for the day.

I will be glad if we do get some rain which you have predicted Ian as my garden is so dry. The farmers will be pleased too.

It's easily done, Sue - but I think you'll be ok exposing all (well, maybe not "all" :naughty: ) today. It's windy, grey and overcast and I'm busy doing my rain dance! :D

Mornin' Sue and Jean. It's very much the same here, just woken up to gloomy and grey skies and it's now feeling quite cool . . . . and still staying bone dry!

It does look like the "major rain event" for today has been downgraded with some area along the South Coast getting wet while other areas will remain high and dry (most likely the far South East).
Actually, thunderstorms have already broken out across England as I type - more particularly to the South West but they are quite isolated and sporadic in nature.
Just hope we do get to catch some of the liquid stuff before things settle down on Tuesday onwards.

:eek: :D It's pretty cloudy over here, we had a tiny spit of rain that dampened the ground - like dew - about an hour ago but it's all dried up now.
 
Nothing much to report over this side of the country.
'Cept that its been raining steadily for the last couple of hours or so.
The "prediction" is for heavy rain over-night then clearing by morning.
( or so the "professionals" are saying :D)
 
Ian - I have to confess I doubted you! 'Rain about mid-day', you said. Noon came and went on the allotment, as the dry powdery dust swirled around us. Then - at 12.40 it happened! Rain! Not much to be sure, but steady and when we left home at 6 pm to travel up to Berkshire (grandson-sitting tomorrow) it was still raining! The rain up in Berkshire is heavy so I just hope it's the same in the New Forest.

:D Jean. Finally got there in the end, then. Seems that the drought has come to an end.

Over here, have recorded 7.7 mm of rain since my last observation at 6 pm yesterday. It seems that most of it came in showery form during the night.

Not exactly a bowels-tremblingly vast amount where no lightning has been observed (I was asleep anyway), but nonetheless all very useful stuff for the lawn so it was most welcomed. Especially since it was a very hard task predicting how much was going to fall - or whether I was actually going to see any rain at all!

It does look like a definate rain band formed over Hampshire, Surrey, North Sussex, London and into Hertford last night, that rain band became stationary hence how some of the above mentioned areas got more than 20 mm in the past 24 hours.
Kent and Essex were in a "dry" slot where the rain popped up in random showery form, hence why rainfall varied between 2 mm to 10 mm last night.

It's raining quite hard here in Berkshire and I haven't managed to find out how wet it was in the Forest, but I think it needs a few days steady rain to get the veggies growing properly.

Hey ho - We've now just got the problem of what to do with 2 very active small boys on a wet day. :eek:

Hi Sue! Indeed, we've just had another 0.5 mm on top of the 7.7 mm of last night in the form of steady drizzle misty stuff, so that'll be good for the lawn. :thumbs:
The rest of the week does look a little bit on the unsettled side depending where you live. With low pressure continuing to stick close to the UK, Northern and Western parts are likely to stay showery while the East and South will get to pick up the best of any sunny spells as far as the rest of this week is concerned.
All a bit vague and not terribly summer-like but that's pretty typical for our climate!

However, that trip to Central France doesn't seem to be a clever idea at the moment. This is Grele, the heart of France, only yesterday! :eek: :eek: :eek:

Come on, Chris, I was relying on you for your 2-left-footed rain dance! Have you given up on me and my thirst for rain? :shrug: :D

Anyway, mornin' Jean and everyone else reading this bit, it's being a more cheerful start to the day weather wise as I type.
As for today's weather across the UK, it looks like being a day of dodging showers for those living over Western and Northern parts. I'll let you work out what part of the UK will remain dry? :thinking: :naughty: :D

I never realised the Ark was sited on the south coast of Hampshire. :)

Mornin' all from what is quite a bright and sunny Folkestone. Can see some nice convective cumulus lumbering along the Channel, a sign that we'll get to see more in the way of showers even at this neck of the woods later on today. But like before they'll probably be hit and miss affairs.

Just had a peek at the medium range charts while in the process of compiling my Cloud Master forecast for today and it looks like it'll be quite a while before we'll get to see any actual summer-like weather. Looks set to be changeable with sunny spells and showers for the rest of the week and into the weekend with a spell of prolonged rain for the South on Sunday. Oh dear, but all a long way off, of course.
