The Great Meteorological Thread

Saw the countryfile week-long forecast tonight. Still nothing forecast for the SE this week. Looks like we could have a seventh dry week!

* Gasp! * I am seeing the tiniest bit of drizzly stuff in the air (that little it's not showing up on the rain gauge).
However blue skies are forming to my north as this weak occluded front passes over us.

I don't mind if it rains so long as it's only at night and it doesn't rain on my car. All the dust in the air from the nearby widening of the M25 is making more than enough of a mess of my car let alone when it rains on it as well. :(

:lol::lol: I bet the concrete cows appreciate all that rain! :D
Jean

Of course they do!
It makes the grass grow for them to graze :D

Another Stiffy (I meant stiff breeze, get yer minds outta the gutter :D)
this morning and wet with it, but that was nearer Bedford than MK.
'ere Guv wanna buy some rain fall ?;)

:D Oh by the way, Cobra, I've got a snake photography-related cartoon in mind, so watch this space. :naughty: :suspect:

Back on topic, it is still as dry as ever - that tiny bijou light drizzle-ette at 5 am hadn't even barely dampened the surface, and it lead to a humid and windy day with some sunshine in the afternoon - thus sucking out what little moisture there is left in the top soil.
Thus this is officially the 43rd dry day for my home location at Folkestone Harbour.

And now going by the forecast model charts, there are early indications of a prolonged heatwave (25 C to 30 C) after this weekend, a heatwave that could go onto lasting a good couple of weeks.
It's all a long way off, though but the signs are there.

Oh dear my poor garden- and the crops round here will be really suffering I imagine.

Woke up to cloudy skies at 5.30 this morning . . . it's now 8.30 am and look at it now!

The flattened delicate-looking cirrocumulus suggests warm air is descending down from above. Was half expecting low cloud to start rolling in from the Channel, but it doesn't look like it is happening!

The tiny bit of drizzle we did have dried up almost instantly and now back to dry although overcast :(

Hmm am I about to be honoured or insulted I wonder

Looking forward to it Ian

Very much the same kind of story over the South East today, and will be pretty much unchanged over the next couple of days as a weak weather front moves slowly and painfully southeast-wards over England.

:D Let's put it this way, it does involve a snake. :naughty: Hope to do it by the weekend.

We have a lot of cloud but it just isnt letting any rain out.

Again, it's been much the same here. The day started off fine and bright, but cloud then filled in the sky by the afternoon and more or less stayed that way since then.

And over here, here's further evidence that we need some real rain. Badly.

At a friend's back garden where moisture is continuing to be sucked out of the clay-based soil and cracks then forms as the soil itself shrinks and hardens . . .

And the forecast for the South East looks pretty much unchanged for the rest of May. Rather cloudy for the rest of the week with perhaps patchy drizzle - enough to wet the tips of grass, then becoming sunny over the weekend along with a rise in temperatures as we go into next week (21 C to 26 C).
The North and West of the UK will carry on picking up rainfall as normal - hence those living there are probably wondering what the fuss is all about when reading this thread. :help: :D

It looked quite Stormy earlier, but cooled off rapidly
hence (I guess) no storm or even rain, though it has been threatening on and off for
best part of the day.

Oh and you are quite safe from any retribution (should it be required) Ian
I can't draw to save my life ;)

This morning we woke up to solid grey cloud and the merest hint of drizzle - not hard enough to penetrate the soil. :bang::|

Jean

Morning Jean.

It's very much the same here, but still remaining dry with no precipitation whatsoever. The low cloud is shrouding the hills to the north of Folkestone.

In other words, this is what I think of this kind of stuff . . :shake: :gag: :nono:  :( :D

But it should slowly brighten and warm up as we go into the remainder of this week and into the weekend. Although I am still sitting on the fence and clutching cards close to chest as far as next week "possible heatwave" is concerned.

For those who are not aware of it, I do provide a daily forecast for a local radio station every morning. Along with that I run a little weather forecast service which is updated before 7 am most morning (but later in weekends as I do like my lay ins). Something I've been doing for a good couple of years (even though I have been passionate about the weather ever since I could walk).

My daily weather forecast service: http://thecloudmaster.webs.com/ And it can be found on Facebook under the title of The Cloud Master

All my forecasts are based on looking at model outputs and satellite images straight from the internet, all completely my own interpretation rather than cheat by peeking at mainstream media stuff (TV, weather forecast websites, the radio, etc).

Hence the nickname above my avatar. :D

Cloud and a few spots of rain here, however as usual, sod all actually happening

What a cra . . rubbish day. Just total cloud cover all day with the tiniest hint of drizzle at some point during the day. Didn't even touch anything, heck, my forehead was more damp due to riding the bike in this muggy and yet cold air.
The sheer dryness continue as I record nil rainfall for today, can't even be bothered to class it as "trace" amount. :shake: :gag: :suspect: :D

You can tell I'm starting to suffer from cabin fever. :bonk:

I thought I asked for this thread to be closed. It still hasn't stopped raining up here, and now we have wind as well.:(

Indeed as the Great North/South Divide becomes that more obvious.

Over here . . . Oooooooooo, just woken up to damp ground! Aaaah, the smell of freshly fallen rain and the local snail population certainly are making the most of it!

However, it was very light stuff and while it was enough to moisten the surface, it still hasn't shown up on my rain gauge which cannot read anything below 0.5 mm at any one time. So, with that in mind, I will have to estimate between 0.1 to 0.3 mm had fallen in the early hours.

The forecast for the South East looks set to be the same for the next few days, often staying dry with variable cloud amounts but the North and West of the UK continuing to be affected by strong winds and periods of rain - could even get stormy at times over the far North!

Ok drizzle here amounted to nothing last night, woke up this morning to bright blue perfectly clear skys!

Seriously need rain in my garden, it isn't enjoying this much

Bry

And STILL no rain had fallen today. While it isn't as hot as it "should be", the fresh drying west wind isn't helping the drought situation at all.
More and more of our lawns, as well as grass verges and fields are turning brown by the day.

Total rainfall so far for May here at Folkestone? 1.3 mm.

Rather warm day here again, no sign of rain at all, just a few lonely fluffly clouds :(

*shakes fist*

Bry

Well we had a flurry of snow high winds and heavy rain showers and the sun showed it's face ....

How does the song go " four seasons in one day" :D

 Damn, I envy you! Over here it's like something out of Groundhog Day! Just the same ol' conditions, sunny spells and variable cloud cover with very little precipitation (totalling 3.9 mm in SEVEN weeks!).

Great shot FITP. I miss Glasgow!!! (Yes, really :) )

I remember taking my (southern) friend to to the homeland for a boozy weekend holiday. She claimed it rained so hard "it hurt her nose"

My M&D are coming down from Scotland for a few days tomorrow. I daren't tell my mum rain is forecast! :D

Same in Glasgow....

:bang:

That is a lovely capture! Really does show the atmosphere (no pun intended) of the moment.

And this morning, I woke up to this.

Sooooo, THAT's what the rapture looks like. :D

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if rain continue to fizzle out by the time it reaches here, going by the output charts. We will get to see rather more in the way of cloud cover over the next couple or three days, though, but the signs for a warm-up for the middle of next week are still there.
Scotland will remain wet and unsettled, though. Even becoming stormy at times but Southern parts will continue to receive very little - if any - rainfalls.

Ahh - that'll keep Mummy *Babs very happy, Ian

i am really struggling to remember when we had rain last , apart from the 2 drops i have just seen on the patio !!! ..........

mind you , i can see it all coming at once which will be neither use nor ornament :bang: :bang: :bang:

... let me guess, Ian - it that the view from your house, or is it southern Spain? :D

Still no rain here! Amazingly the ground in our allotment is still quite damp about 2" below the surface. I was watering planting holes yesterday and it took a while for the water to soak in. But in the winter it's water-logged and reeds grow quite happily there. But the garden's solid clay, with solid being the operative word. :(

Jean

good god , was there an earthquake going on

Mornin' all.

While Scotland looks set to be battered by rain and gales today (especially this afternoon), farmers over the South of the UK continue to look forlornly to the skies for any real rain.
Total rainfall for my Folkestone Harbour location for the past weekend . . . a total of 0.2 mm in the form of slight spitty bit of rain which literally evaporated upon hitting the ground.

The forecast for the rest of this week looks largely unchanged as far as the South is concerned while the North will remain unsettled and changeable. Does look like ALL areas will become cool and showery by the end of the week, though, before settling down again in time for the weekend.

Here's my little weather forecast web blog for more details . . . http://thecloudmaster.webs.com/ :)

Friends from the homeland are already saying they've got lights on and heating on as the weather is so awful this morning. Hard to believe there's such a difference!!
