The Great Meteorological Thread

Nope, there were so many possibilities that I didn't know where to start,
mind you I think that (quote of Kelly's) would make a damned fine signature :D

 You have the power...? :naughty: :exit:

I think I'm the one spoiling her rotten!

I'm sure she deserves it. ;)
Incidentally, after having been dry, cloudy and mild all day - quite featureless stuff - suddenly it rained properly hard an hour ago. Not crazy torrrential stuff but enough to really soak everything.

It does look like things will slooooowly brighten and dry up as we wear on into the weekend. It's going to be a very slow process where showers will still pester a few areas - especially over the Eastern side of England.

I think it won't be until next Tuesday that Summer should start to make a proper comeback with warmer temperatures and more in the way of sunshine - especially over Southern and Western parts. All a long way off but signals are strong for high pressure to re-establish itself over the UK next week.

Thank goodness - it looks as though we might be getting back to summer at long last. Thanks, Ian, you've cheered me up.:thumbs:

Jean

Indeed I do and I can even bestow it on you :D

Well after a chilly start around the 6am mark, it warmed up to
a pleasant day with cumulus clouds.
Around about 7pm, under increasingly dark sky's,
it started hissing down, and is still at it :o(

Noooooo - I'm a good girl .......

Jean

Damn :D

Its finally stopped for now at least,
But tomorrow's not looking good either,
I was hoping to go and annoy the
local wildlife :(
(well at the zoo anyway :) )

 That's the official story!!!

Just got back from Mr JG's Wood turning club's annual bbq (I lead an exciting life, dont' I? ) and for the first time in three years it's been warm enough for me not to moan about the Great British Summer. That's the one that doesn't exist!

Hope it stays fine tomorrow so I can go to the allotment and slay some weeds! ;)

Jean

Mornin' all :D

Lovely blue skies and sunshine here today... Makes a change :) the rest of the week looking rather lovely too :) what's in like in your neck of the woods?

I couldn't tell you what it was like for the rest of the day... As I was work :( sat in an office for several hours looking through thousands of contracts for two specific ones with a lady who enjoyed having the heating on as well as the blistering 25' temperature! :gag:

Hi Toby, and Cobra. Certainly has been much more summer-like at Kentfordshire. It was the kind of day where I'm so grateful not to be working in that tomato greenhouse any more!

Looks like one more day of this kind of thing tomorrow at least for Southern and Eastern parts (Western parts staying dull and damp) where it'll become even warmer and muggy.
And then it all goes "bang" on Wednesday and into Thursday before cooler, fresher and brighter weather moves in from the west by the end of the week and into the weekend. All back to normal by then!

Hi Ian
Well I guess we already knew that it wouldn't last :(
:D

The Met office were predicting wet overnight here, earlier not looked lately though, so I don't know if that still stands

Well last evening (Tues) after a very hot and humid day,
a short thunder storm developed early evening, loads of noise, no light light-show,
unfortunately though :(.
Then steady rain for about 4 hours.....

Another hot humid day here in North Bucks, and rumbles of thunder as I type ;)

edit and about half an hour later the storm hits Ah blissssss :)

Hi Cobra! Indeed it's already reached 28 C easily in many inland locations over the South East as I type. It's only 23.1 C in the shade here at my coastal location but it is most certainly feeling a lot warmer than that, especially in the sunshine!
And as expected, little heat-induced "popcorn" type storms are already breaking out over the Midlands and towards the East of England.
And while I do rate my forecasting skills as being "up there", I am finding it difficult to believe that all this will be gone this time tomorrow!
Indeed, over the next 24 hours, general cloud and rain will push all this warm and bright weather back eastwards out into the near-Continent and bringing the return of cooler, fresher and quite damp conditions to many.
However, I still think Southern and Eastern areas will get to pick up the best of any sunshine over the weekend, just that it won't be anywhere as "hot and humid" as what it is being like right now!

Well I must admit that, that is good news Ian.
Its far to hot to work in this, even the hawks are finding it hard :(

The afore mention storm lasted a little over half an hour,
Loads of noise (still no light show though) and the roads running with deep water,
while the drainage system sorted it self out ;)

Cooler here today too, mostly because it hasn't stopped raining since around 9am
Some light showers some heavy showers just right be be working out side in :D

Last day of summer... and now the sun decides to shine! :bat:

Holy thread revival Batman!

Indeed, and it's likely to become warmer over England tomorrow and into Friday.

However, the weather will revert back to it's usual overcast damp mode across the by the weekend. How come that doesn't come as too much of a surprise. :D

It's been lovely here. True, there was something of a fresh east breeze which did take the edge off temperature-wise but it felt lovely and warm when I sat out in my west-facing front garden this afternoon. In fact, it was good enough to top up my "tan" a little bit.

Typical Autumnal day here, it started chilly with a heavy dew
By about 8:30 I guess there was some real warmth back in the sun,
clear blue skies :)

Ian, on the radio some bright spark was saying that Sept. should be quite a good month.
Deteriorating rapidly in to a wet October, following into a bloody cold November.
Well maybe thats not quite how he put it, but thats what he meant :D

Opinion?...........

:eek::eek:

Seriously!? ;)

It was quite warm here, very breezy though. Almost stunt kite wind :D

Actually, that really isn't too far off my thinking. September does generally turn out to be more summer-like than people think, and I'm hoping for some lively weather in October (perhaps some Autumn thunderstorms as ex-hurricanes gets tangled up in the prevailing Atlantic airstream). And indeed there are suggestions of November and December turning out the same as last year's, but that's really a looooooong way off.
But personally, I think this September will turn out to be wetter than normal anyway despiting this promising start (an alternating mix of warm dry spells and short lived wet ones). But, before it does all that, it looks set to be very warm over Southern parts tomorrow, wouldn't be surprised if temperatures touches the 80 F mark somewhere over Southern England at some point over the next couple of days before things return back to it's default grey and damp mode by Sunday.

Thanks for the up-date Ian
Though I could do with a nice sunny Monday if at all possible? Please? :D

:D Might be a bit of a tall order. Does look like we'll all be back into this cool and showery westerly airstream by then. Perhaps the "sheltered" South East will get to pick up the best of the sunshine while Western parts will be peppered by showers.

b****r!
Oh well can't win 'em all :D

Holy thread..........
b****r, beaten to it :D

Great to see this thread bought back to life.
Keep it up guys

:D Cheers Andy.

Mind you, it would help if there are some actual interesting weather to report on.

Although it does look like Autumn will arrive in style right across the UK from Monday onwards with strong winds and bands of rain sweeping west-to-east across the country.
That unsettled trend then looks set to last for the rest of the week and into the next weekend.
That is actually going to buck the trend as far as September's weather are concerned as we usually end up with pleasant Septembers after a "lousy" Summer.
Not a great way to start the new School and College year, then.

Right! thats you off my Christmas card list, Ian  :D

Its been a rather grey day here, the sun has made the odd,
very brief appearance since early afternoon, but it looks as
though it really can't be arsed to come out :(
I felt a few spots earlier but that didn't amount to much either.
All in all I guess thats what you would call a "nothing day"

:D Never have been a Christmas person anyway.

Actually, it's turned out rather lovely here at Folkestone. Once the patchy sea mist/broken low cloud cleared off at around noon-time, the afternoon turned out very pleasant and summer-like with sunshine and only broken high cloud.

Actually, funny I should mention about wanting some "interesting" weather. As I type, radars are picking up "popcorn" type cells that had suddenly sprung up over North West France in the past couple of hours, and going by their trajectories, I wonder if they miiiiight just clip past Kent, East Essex and the far eastern fringe of East Anglia later on tonight.
There is a small outside 20% to 30% chance of those above mentioned areas possibly getting to see a distant lightning show tonight.

Been an absolutely lush day here today!

Beautiful sunshine and high cirrus cloud all day! Bloody lush!

However... I was at work. ALL FREAKIN' DAY!

Had our first rain for months on Friday, a lovely big storm. Yesterday was quite fresh, today is back to normal. 31C and sunny. The deluge of Friday has cooled the pool a bit brrrrr!

There is always one that has to spoil it for the rest :p

:lol::lol::lol:

Been hissing down here best part of the day, so far
I'm guessing at "high teens" and cooling :(

:D Afternoon Cobra and everyone else reading this bit.

This morning was fairly bright and muggy, but now it's dull, overcast and drizzly. :gag: Ideal Sunday roast dinner weather if you ask me. :naughty:

Hi Ian the clouds now have a little definition to them, still very dark
but at least you can see where one ends and the next starts :).
It actually quit raining about 10 minutes ago, but I bet it won't be for long.

Ah yes roast beef, horseradish sauce, Yorkshire puds roast spuds and assorted veg Yummmy :)

Bonsoir mon bon amis! :)

Been an interesting day here today, with intense isolated downpours with intermittent warm sunshine! Lots of strong wind very consistent! Had some great clouds today as well, but no photos to prove them as I've been doing Jobs for uni :D

I see on facebook Ian that we could possibly be within for a chance of decent electric weather tomorrow?

Hi Toby! :D Weatherwise, it has been very much the same kind of thing here at Folkestone.

As for tomorrow, I can only see very little in the way of electrical activitiy, it's really the gale-force wind and persistent rain over most of England and Wales that is the real issue - especially in the morning. There will be some gales along the South Coast which will make for some tricky cross-county driving - especially if you're driving a high-sided vehicle!
However, we do return back to the sunshiine and showers set-up on Wednesday and into Thursday, so that's when some of those showers may contain some thunder. It'll be very local stuff though.
