The Formula 1 Thread

That was fantastic! Having not watched f1 for years, I'm back and hooked after that race... Drs.... What a great idea!
You picked the right time to come back, that was the best ending I've seen for years. Fantastic drive from JB.

Had Monaco not been red flagged it may well have ended in a similar way.

What a race! Finally Vettel didn't win. It was starting to look like the MSC procession days again

Now that's entertainment , well done JB . I really hope nothing comes of the incident between him and alonso .

Lewis has lost his head and he's lost his race craft totally .

What was the marshall doing falling over in the middle of the track, getting up seeing the car and falling over again in front of it , then the other guy trying to kick the carbon fibre wing debris off the track only for another marshall to pull it away at the last second leaving a kick at fresh air - was like a Three Stooges sketch

Fantastic race in the end, how well JB drove going from 21st to win in that last session, awesome stuff...

Lewis, someone needs to get hold of him and shake him I think. Even his attitude of being 'busy' when Jake and the Beeb team were doing their thing don't do him any favours in my eye, particularly when you look at Mark Webber who was happy to come and talk.

An epic race (literally), but I still can't see past Vettel at present!

The incident with the marshal could've been very serious , at first it was funny, then seeing the car coming round the corner with wheels locked up put a different light on it , he was bloody lucky I'd say .

Brilliant race ! They were right to start under the safty car on both occasions imo, to let the drives get a feel for the conditions, but no way should it have stayed out so long. By the time it came in on the second restart, it was too dry for wet tyres!! What's the point of having wets ffs?

That aside, what a drive from Button! 5 pit stops, a drive through penalty, team mate doing his best to take him out, finding himself in last place and still managed to win! A perfect example of how to win a wet race - patience and let it come to you. Far better approach that Hamilton who seemed determined to try and win the race on the first lap :cuckoo: Someone needs to tell him to calm down!

The cameraman falling A over T whilst filming Rhianna was funny too.

Yay well done Button!!! :1st:

Brilliant race which was made especially entertaining by marshalls falling over all weekend!!! Perhaps they should be tested on their ability to run without tripping before they can have the job!!

Priceless . Did you see the other incident involving a marshal after vettle hitting the wall on Fri I think it was, I nearly split my sides at that one lol

I guess its just me being left alittle disappointed by the race in general?

Don't get me wrong, it ended brilliantly with a fantastic drive from Jenson but for me it should have been a standing start, I feel after the red flag it should have started at least 15 minutes earlier

its racing, its wet, it showed straight away how dry it was by the change within 2 laps of racing going over to inters

Not a huge fan either of the DRS, it gives drivers a free pass if you like (in Canada it also gave some a free escape after overtaking)

As for Lewis and his moves, the first he should have held off the move for a lap or two and passed easier at a different time. The move with Jenson I saw nothing wrong with personally. He was quicker, moved to where he would overtake (the inside line for next corner) and Jenson moved over and the touched.

Lewis does himself no favours with his comments off track at times but he is for me one of the top two drivers in the world (Seb being the other) Born racer, wears his heart on his sleeve and if there is a space he puts his car in it. I enjoyed the comment before yesterdays race aswell, 280 moved before the Canadian GP and Lewis had 10% of those, now out of 24 drivers that says something

Their pure athletes ..... the guy sweeping the water uphill ,by the time he walked back the the same water he already pushed up the hill was back at his feet , as I said earlier .. top class entertainment both racing and the marshals

HAHA that was absolutely comical! Playing chicken with a F1 car should defiantly be something to do before you die.

I remember one test with Eddie Irvine in I think the Jordan.

He got bored so went out in his road car to set a time. Then fuelled it up with Racing fuel to see what happened. He went quicker but his Mercedes sounded somewhat rough on his return.

Were you there when Derek Warwick decided to have some fun in his road Merc and took a team member/press or someone or other round the track, doing a vey high speed pass through the pitlane, skirting the team awning....in the rain :cuckoo:
This was back in the days (89)...when the circuit was still run by Llanelli Borough Council

As for Canada,it was worth the wait.....Bernie will be pushing his idea for more artificial wet races :D
...and the Marshals had a tough time, falling over has its comical moments but it could have easily turned nasty
....all unpaid volunteers btw ;)

Fantastic race in the end. A brilliant victory!

Mixed feelings about Lewis, I guess he needs to calm down a little bit, but how many times have we been praising him when manoeuvres like that pay off?

Well, once it got going it was certainly a busy race!!

For me, i think it should have been a normal start. Whilst it's difficult to see from the TV i think they should have ran 2 or 3 warm up 'sighting' laps at the start before a normal get away rather than run behind the saftey car. It's not a long drag down to the first corner, there's plenty of run off and escape options so should have been fine.

Whilst it was funny with the marshal falling, i'm an ex-race marshal myself and definatly wouldn't have wanted to have been in his position! Although i'm not quite sure exactly why so many had gone on track at once with so little a gap.

And as for the Lotus Renault who came round that corner and locked up, i would think the stewards will have had a few words about driving under double waved yellows!

Good solid race for Button though but disapointed for MSC who i would have liked to have seen get on the podium.

excellent race. MSC had a blinder, had DRS not been available i dont think webber would have got past so easily. shows that even though hes not got the raw pace, he's still a very good racer when the conditions even up the speed. Hamilton is a bit desperate, he needs to learn patience, he could have won the race had he not been a silly boy.

First class performance Butholio glad McLaren made me eat my words.

Reminds me of an Indy race with Zanardi winning from last place. Never thought I'd see it in f1.

Hamilton....NO! You really could be one of the greatest, but why, oh why do you have to win on the first lap?

Youthful exuberance can no longer be tolerated. Everyone understands his frustration but the earlier poster was right - someone needs to give him a talking to:rules:

Come back Big Ron all is forgiven:help:

Did you not see the shots of a plain black coated (ie no advertising or corporate affilations) Ron in the McLaren pits?.

He looked like the bad arsed characters you would see in the X Files :D

And he wasn't looking looking to happy with his boys antics was he...?

No he wasn't was he, I wonder if we'll see him back in the pits regularly?, road cars must seem pretty boring after a lifetime in F1.

I got the impression he moved to aleviate the fall out from "Mclaren gate" must be time for him to come back? Can't see him giving the kind of interviews Martin Whitmarsh does though.

No I only got involved once B.A.R.C. took over.

As you know because we were tweeting at the time, I didn't get it either, but since then I have actually had a change of heart - the pirelli wets and inters have not been tested to any extent, some cars haven't had them on at all, so most of the pitlane had no idea how they were were going to behave - on that basis, I can actually understand the safety car start. I wont be quite so forgiving next time, they collected a race worth of data on Sunday and despite track differences, they now know what to expect from those tyres.

Once it got underway properly, it was an excellent spectacle and whilst I actually think this one showed DRS at its worse in many ways, overtaking was way way too easy, it was still a fabulous finish and I can only rue what might have been at Monaco a few weeks earlier.

Never been a fan of the DRS like you say. It gives drivers a free pass if you like and not what racing is about

Just packed the suitcase. Now it's just the small matter of a 3.30am start in the morning. Plus the "comforts" of Michael O'Leary's luxury aircraft, and it's Valencia for me.:D:D

 From me too :D

Only jealous have a great time

David

Double :razz::razz: from me lol!!

Have a good time and we expect pics!!

My predictions for Sunday:

1st Hamilton, 2nd Alonso, 3rd Vettel

What a job

Sorry missed your response, oops.

Regretfully it wasn't a job, just a hobby.
Looking forward to qualifying tomorrow:)

Yawn, another boring race at valencia, why do we go to this soulless 'street' circuit year on year for a snoozefest
I've just said something very similar on facebook. It doesn't help that Vettel/Red Bull keep winning, I can't say that I'm as pleased as they are.

To be fair it's the first uneventful race we've had this year, the rest have been pretty thrilling :) It just goes to show, you can have DRS, Pirelli's new tyres etc but the circuit itself still has a huge impact how good or bad a race can be. I have to agree, I'd be more than happy if they never race at Valencia again!

Surely f1 can see this is just not an acceptable venue.

There are so many venues vying for a race and the calendar is getting so full, just junk it and give somewhere else a go.

And totally unlike me, thanks Alonso for at least giving us something to watch. Mclaren totally out-performed today - this does not bode well:thumbsdown:

Worry words for McLaren fans from Jenson & Lewis, both saying that they think they're in trouble from Silverstone onwards because of the ban on blown diffusers :(
