The Formula 1 / IndyCar Thread

I see Red Bull have given up on trying to place Colton Herta in an AlphaTauri next year.

Got to love the arrogance of Helmut Marko in thinking that just because Herta is american that the FIA should wave superlicence qualifying levels

It‘s opened up debate about superlicense weighting, which is a good thing. It does seem crazy to me that IndyCar wins aren’t worth as much as F2 wins.

Whilst F1 will have 24 races next year, across the globe, IndyCar can only manage a paltry 17.
There are some great tracks that no longer have IndyCar races.
A shame.

I'd like to see them back on 2 mile ovals, Michigan or Calafornia. Must be time for another crack at Gil de Feran's lap record.

I gave up watching at one point because it was all Ovals and got a bit too samey. Nascar manage what, 40 odd races? and has added more road courses and even a dirt track event.

It has been many many years since ovals were the norm. What’s missing from the mix is Super Speedways.

36 championship races, plus the All star race and the duels.

I'm happy with the balance of different types of races at the moment, it feels like it's not a 1.5 mile oval every week any more, Those certainly have their place but I like the variety.

Used to watch Indycar quite regularly, but have only been an occasional viewer in recent seasons.
Give it another go, the racing is almost always excellent. Far more entertaining than F1

I have just seen in the news that Red Bull is accused of a £5M overspend in 2021 and, although speculation, they could lose points and Vestappen rightly stripped of the title he did not win according to the rules. This would certainly please me though I am happy that Verstappen rightly leads this year and will almost certainly win the 2022 title.

£5m in F1 terms is a drop in the ocean.....

They won’t be losing any points and neither will Max.

With Ferrari being the team pushing for the maximum possible sanctions against Red Bull, I wouldn't be betting on that.

I wonder if the cost of defending the case will come out of this year's capped budget...

Maybe…

If Red Bull get more than a slap on the wrist, I’ll be surprised.

So, what are the odds on Checo playing his wingman role and cleaning out Chuck Le Cluck tomorrow so that Max can win the title this weekend?

I dont think it will happen but I hope Lewis gets given last years title. Even Max must know he won b****r all.
This year a different story.

£5m in F1 terms is a drop in the ocean.....
Not with the cost cap set to £145m
£5m is 3.5% of the cost cap. One article suggests thats enough to fund 50 additional staff based on average salary's or 2/3rds of the amount allocated by the teams maximising the cost cap for in season development.

Teams like Williams are rumoured to operate on a £40m budget - £5m would be very welcome

A good accountant will ensure that no one will find an overspend, in fact probably make it look like an underspend! F1 teams remind me of a politician, shake their hand and then count your fingers, trust nothing they say or do, they are all win at any method.

Wonder if Fernando will overtake anyone around the outside of 130R this year?

WTF!!! Did they never learn to have a recovery tractor in the way as last time sadly a driver died, they need to bang some heads together and make sure it Never happens again.
Edit... Well done Max on being the 2022 F1 Champion.

Max has barely put a wheel wrong this year. Great driver, great car, solid work from RBR on the pitwall, in the garage and at the factory. All that brings championships.

Can't help wondering how much last year's overbudget spending might have helped them this year too.

If indeed RBR (or any other team) have overspent, that should result in severe penalties. Unless the can gets kicked down the road again, we should find out tomorrow if a) they have overspent and b) what the consequences will be.

Interested to see the outcome on the cost cap stuff, not expecting much if any punishment doled out though if the more recent media leaks are true.
Well done to Max on the title, has been the class of the field this year, I wish I'd stuck a few quid on him after the first few races when Ferrari looked much stronger!

Ross is right. Without real consequences for busting the cap, it’s a waste of time trying to impose one. I’ve read comments that Red Bull’s overspend was on catering and staff welfare. Well, they should instead have diverted funds from other (perhaps performance related) areas of the business to make sure they could continue to look after their staff appropriately.

However, there’s no way the FiA are going take away titles that have already been awarded. They could perhaps bar Red Bull from accruing any more constructors points this season, which might have an impact on who gets the constructors title. But even that is unlikely.

Nope, it’ll all be swept under the carpet next the Ferrari ’over fuelling’ details…
