lousy lousy spurs, stop being so poooooooo. You've just screwed both ours and your chance of a top 4 finish.

Ah well now I'm left with a quandry. I want to finish above spurs to annoy all the smug fans that have been chirping on about the CL all season, but I don't want the europa league, so which to choose?

except for the fact you have to travel to the middle of nowhere in europe on a thursday. Then if you get through to the later knockout stages you are then looking at 1st team players at a time when the other competitions are all heating up

No different to CL in that respect then I guess.

That's what a squad is for at the end of the day and all likely title contenders will have to manage that.
 
You just know that CL is tues/wednesday, so better spacing travel wise. And you don't normally have to travel to as mad faraway places with CL. And the pay is better...

except the accolades and the money is MUCH more worth it in the CL, so thats the difference
 
Wasn't talking about it's worth. Just a response to your reason for not wanting to be in it which was "if you get through to the later knockout stages you are then looking at 1st team players at a time when the other competitions are all heating up"

yeah but my reason was because you have to do that and then the payoff is poor, its a worthy sacrifice if the payback is that of the champions league
 
Rumours abound on Twitter this evening that the FA will tomorrow announce the departure of Capello from the England job.

Anyone else heard this?

Hadn't read that but I did see (re the super injunction story) that Mr Giggs may have been the naughty boy in question.

Yeah, seems the Capello story was rubbish. More truth in the Giggs stories floating about by all accounts.
 
I understand the new rule doesn't allow you to talk about refs prior to a game but the world has finally gone mad - Fergie charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for stating Howard Webb to be the "best man for the job" ahead of the Chelsea game last week.

Perhaps the FA will dock United 4 points ? :naughty:

Another big weekend - hoping to secure the point we need against Blackburn tomorrow for the title and then hoping Stoke can pick up the FA Cup.

It does seem a bit strange having the Cup Final mixed in around league games but I guess that's the price of hosting the CL final.

Thought to be fair, I still can't decide whether I am happy that Man C have got to where they have. It's all a bit Chelski and spending stupid money to get success, though I do like it that there are more clubs fighting at the top of the table. I don't think I can even say I would rather the Blue side of Manc won than the Red at the moment, but four years ago, I wouldn't have thought twice about supporting the Blues over the Reds....

Nothing wrong with spending stupid money - providing it's money generated by success of the football club both on and off the pitch rather than money that belongs to the person that owns the club :naughty:

well by saying webb was the best man, he's then inadvertently stating other refs are not up to standard i suppose is the stance they take.

as for the clash, i think pulis put it very well, it's clear that the FA cup comes 4th to the FA

The Glazers borrowed money for themselves against the value and future income of United simply to buy the club.

United have actually gone from strength to strength since the Glazers took over and the finances of the club have shot up. Unfortunately the rise in revenue isn't mirrored by a rise in club investment due to the Glazers managing their said borrowing.

If anything - United's spending power is less than it should be based on the money it generates.

I don't think they took it as that - it was simply because he mentioned the ref prior to game.

Yes he broke a rule - but it's pretty laughable.

All that proves is that we buy expensive players and turn them into carp ones!

Man City have spent £350 million in three years, a little bit more than Spurs!

Oh and we have won trophies, quite recently actually. Well more recently than Arsenal anyways........

Lawrie, if you go back 5 years that puts spurs second to Chelsea in the spending league, as Man City were a paupers back then.


I only wish Arsenal would move up that table soon.

No doubt.

Wenger has worked miracles! With no money to spend and having to sell our best players (usually our captain) every year.
But its not good enough, when you've tasted success and then starved.


Don't think I'm going to bother going next year, just can't afford to go anymore, what with ticket prices going up and the price of petrol.

I guess it's a case of finding a balance.

There's no doubt that success / outlay = fantastic but (from a fans point of view) winning nothing doesn't really suit the fans.

As for prices - I don't go to United as much as I used to as I now live in Scotland but our prices are pretty good compared to most. Yes there's an out-cry about a few quid being added but we're not crippled half as much as the London clubs.

We go to Blackburn tomorrow and 'may' win a 19th title - It's been in the news that a squillion United fans are going and that they will be taking the Blackburn tickets for a fortune. Good on them - If United do it tomorrow then I'd sooner see the real fans that travel enjoy the moment rather than half the folk that frequent home games. By that I mean any club's home games.

A bit surprised to see Man Utd only 7th in the spend table from 2003 to 2011, but even more surprised to see Brum at 6th.:thinking:
 
You have to remember that at the Emirates, the season tickets include all home domestic cup games, and the ECL games as well. When you work that out, seeing as we will usually make at least the last 8 in all of those competitions the prices are comparable to other top Prem sides. But you get to watch great football as well.

I used to have a couple of season tickets at the Emirates, well they were my brothers, but he moved to Cornwall and let me have them for the most of one season. Unfortunately he didn't renew them (even though I offered to pay) and he let them drop.

I can't see Wenger going on a spending spree, even if he sells Fabregas, it's just not his style, and he's a stubborn as an old goat !

Looks like there may be a traffic problem on the M40/A40, and there's suddenly a load of light blue shirts down here in Uxbridge.....
 
Just had a drink and a bite to eat with a family of Stoke fans who insisted that I share their picnic with them. Setting was a bit strange as it was the car park at Wembley. We all agreed it was a bit surreal being there. What was really nice was they were real football fans who had been going for years to see Stoke City. As someone who has been watching Manchester City for 42 of my 45 years it was a meeting of like minds.

The fella said to me it must be difficult with your team getting all the stick for having had so much cash recently, but people forget that you had 30,000 people still turning up when you were relegated into the 2nd division (old 3rd) a few years ago. He is right. I was at Wembley in 1999 when Mark Halsey found those 5 minutes from somewhere when we were 2-0 down and we went on to beat Gillingham on penalties. The Gillingham Manager was one Mr Tony Pulis!

Whatever happens today its for the fans (City & Stoke)that have been there through thick and thin, and there have been many thin times! My dad would have loved to have been here for this after 50 odd years of watching the blues.

As an aside, apparently Blue Moon was number 1 in the charts 50 years ago today. It wont ever have been sung with the passion that it will be sung today. Blue moon.........you saw me standing alone..........without a dream in my heart.........without a love of my own :)
