Despite disliking Rooney with a passion that was a great tackle and credit to Sagna for not doing the dying swan and the ref for not immediately going into yellow card mode

Plus One... Personally I really hate Rooney, but he is very passionate about his football and, like Beckham, never has an issue with getting back to defend or getting in a tackle. Something Arsenal need to get sorted, and if the tackle had been on Eboue it would have made it look like he'd just broken his leg...

I've been an Arsenal fan all of my life and in recent years have coveted the ground that Wenger walks upon, but I am getting very very tired of his arrogance and his will not to spend money. If you think about it, when Arsenal were winning trophies it was when we were investing in players. Now it seems that all we do is try and find another Viera, or another Anelka, players from the backstreet of French football who turn into superstars in the Premiership.

Long gone are the days of Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Viera and Wiltord. We have a World class stadium, World class Manager, and just one or two World class players. There are so many in that squad that shouldn't be there: Bendtner, Diaby, Almunia, Eboue, Denilson and Squillaci. Most of them wouldn't get into the starting 11 of any of the top 7 or 8 sides, so how do Arsenal expect to when things with them ?

Bring back Viera & Parlour - even now they'd be better than that bunch of muppets. As you can probably tell, football is not a great subject with me today.

Its going to be a long time since I eve get any respect for rooney after his efforts with his elbow at wigan. Good tackle here or not the guy has lost a lot of respect from a lot of people.

I already hated the guy but that elbow sealed his place as my most hated english player ever. It was absolutely disgusting, as was SAF response and the FA's. It's the worst display in in english football I've seen for many many years and I won't forget it quickly.

I'm not defending Rooney for his elbow and I said further back in the thread that he deserved to be sent of for it.

We see deliberate elbows, wreckless tackles and managers defending the indefensible week in week out so I can't really see why this incident or indeed Fergie's subsequent comments are so much of a big deal to people.

Because of who the team is...

that particular incident was a lot worse than most deliberate elbows, most are thrown in a jump for a ball and rarely with that kind of malice. he went in with the sole purpose of cracking his jaw.

and fergies comments because he's the first one to complain about anything anywhere near as bad, i.e. carragher last week, he sets his own rules and thinks he's above the rest.

Not sneaky you mean ;)

So it's United V City at Wembley now in the Semi Final

Another fun filled day :gag:

you would think that rhis semi is pretty muc the final, i mean you never know, but the winner will be the favourite to win the whole thing

The winner of City V United will be the favourites but like you say - you never know. Just look at Birmingham against Arsenal.

At least this way around either Stoke or Bolton are going to the FA Cup final which is good.

I'm guessing you wanted Bolton to go through to the Semi Final to detract from their league campaign as they're right behind you. Come to think of it we play Bolton next in the league so there's another dilema for you ;)

thats getting too complicated! i want stoke to win the fa cup though since its just down the road from me

Don't mine who wins as long as its a good game of football. Anyone but Stoke then.

Arsenal really are having a bad time - film on BBC2 earlier called Goal II - they even managed to lose a fictional champions league final!

I dont get the whole knock Arsenal as they are bottling it stuff you see in the papers. Unlucky v Bham, outplayed by Barca (and the ref) granted, but everyone seems to give van der Saar MOM from the FA cup and little to choose between. So on another day we could have won the League Cup and in Semis of FA Cup. Still need to get a couple of defs and a decent striker granted.

I'm inclined to agree with you.

Unfortunately when you stay in multiple competitions it's almost inevitable that you loose some big matches at some point and whether you're Arsenal, Liverpool, United or Chelsea there will always be people who enjoy your misfortune.

Arsenal could well end up winning the Premier League title which (regardless of what else happens) always = a great season.

It's very unlikely that United will win the treble in fact it's more likely that we'll win nothing as (like Arsenal) we're certainly lacking in one or two areas. Offer me the 19th league title now and nothing else and I'd take it.

Why not? Your second in the league, but you've not won anything in a while. Surely the owners want to win something and the nature of football says that the manager is the first thing to change.

I wouldn't be surprised if you don't win anything this season for Arsene to go over the summer.

Firstly, I'm not an Arsenal fan.

But he will not get sacked, I guarantee it. And if I knew you I would bet you more than £10...

He is involved in much more than just being a manager at Arsenal - he has brought financial stability to the club - baring in mind they moved to the Emirates, has a say in players wages, scouting etc.

He's been there since 1996 - I seriously think the only way he would not be at the club is if he decides to leave by his own accord...

Agree, he has never missed a top 4 finish, and has a team likely to finish 1st or 2nd. It would be great to win a trophy, but aside from Man U and Chelsea, every other Prem team would have gladly taken that in the last 5 years!

It is a very long time that he has had to not win a trophy......

As I said before, if you takeout the 2 new managers this season, there are only 4 that have not won a trophy/promotion more recently than Wenger.

Fun weekend in London with semi-finals.

Bolton v Stoke and City v united all heading down to Euston on the same trains, nice!! Also that weekend is Arsenal v Liverpool on Sunday and the London Marathon. Trains, hotels and the tube chocka.

Brilliant scheduling there :bonk:

United's 2-3 FA Youth Cup victory over Liverpool at Anfield looked like quite a game.

4 sendings off as United come back from 2:0 down to win 2:3

Paul Pogba's 2nd yellow and dismisal for his cheeky penalty is funny - you can see here at 1min 50sec.

Disgusted to hear about ejections for Hillsborough and Heysel disaster chants though.

Have to wait till the start of next season to see if he goes before then.....

It's a complete joke isn't it.

I can't recall which year it was but one FA Cup Semi Final (involving a London club I think) was moved away from Wembley because the powers that be said it would be impossible to manage it on the same day as the Marathon.

Now there's a nice new Wembley to fund they seem to think they can manage with City, United and Liverpool.:bonk:

Wembley is a joke and cost far too much. Enjoyed my visits to the Millenium Stadium in the early 2000's, all the facilities on the doorstep that you need (scran and boozers) and the train station only 400 yards away.

Also only cost £121m to build. Bargain

I used to love Villa Park for the Semi Finals.

Even the England Internationals seemed more like football matches when they took them around the country.

I'd have loved to have seen the 'National Stadium' built somewhere other than London anyway - but that's a whole different debate.

Not looking forwards to tonights Man Utd V Marseille game.

I'm always nervy after a 0:0 away score in the first leg.

utd through to quarters and another tick to my plan for the season

I love your mindset - but it must be a tortured existence

Anyway - As I feared - that was a bit nervy - spending nearly all the game one goal to the good.
Hernandez (I know I keep going on about him) is going from strength to strength and seems to be getting the best out of Rooney in a more creative role.
Having Valencia back is like a new signing and he's made an impact in his two run outs since returning from injury and Park coming back is going to be another boost for us.
Defensively it's all a bit up in the air with O'Shea and Rafael picking up injuries. Evans coming back is better than O'shea I guess but getting Vidic and Ferdinand back for the home stretch will be key.

The Bayern v Inter match looked a belter. One of them had to crash out and it looked for all the money in the world that in wwas going to be Inter before they came back to snatch it.

i mean it was a bit tense but i think utd easily won really. marseille didn't look like they were up to much

5 match touchline ban for meester ferguson. At least he's nearer the bar

it's good to see him get some just deserts

I'm never quite sure what difference 'touchline bans' make to be honest.

I know he got a £30K fine but other than a means of announcing some action has been taken what difference do they actually make ?

Not like the old days when if you are in the stands there is no way of getting messages to the touchline. If i recall there is already a phone line from the directors boxes to the dugout anyway.

Fergie could always take up the 'Wenger spot' from the Arsenal game a couple of seasons back!!

Hopefully Utd will run in to some form in the coming weeks. I predict that they will play awesome in the next 3 weeks as i'm on holiday and can't see the games.

Balotelli also managed to get himself sent off and end Man Cities euro dream, whose a clever boy then!
