you make your own luck

I can't give credit to Barcelona when they moan like kids, act up to the referee with diving and trying to get him to book opponents, blatant faking of injuries, dirty play/fouls they get away with playing at home and playing against ten men.
RVP's first booking was not a booking. He did nothing, watch the replay. RVP was grabbed around his throat by another Barcelona player and nothing was done. He was then sent off because he shot on goal 1 second after being flagged offside and not hearing a whistle. That's abotu as harsh as it gets. In fact, I've not seen many refereeing performances worse. The whole evening the ref influenced the game giving decisions Barcelona's way. I thought referees were above listening to the home crowd and basing decisions on the reactions of home sides? Apparently not.
Yes it is all too easy to blame officials, but every time two big sides meet it's always decided by the referee. Barcelona did not beat Arsenal, they were handed the victory. The reason they dominated was that every single attack the had overalps down both sides because Arsenal were having to play a tight formation with a man down. Not hard to beat any side that has only ten men let alone Barcelona playing against you.
Barcelona are probably the best side in the world currently, but they don't need ot behave the way they do. They have tallent.
I'll stop being a bitter Arsenal fan when a team beats us properly and luck is not against us constantly like in the Carling Cup final as well.

Moved the Emirates to Planet Zog have they, you are such a bad loser sure you are no Fergie

And you thought exactly the same this time last year when you beat West Ham with only ten men did you???

Some of You gooners need to get over yourselves, get over the fact you do not have a squad good enough to win (to compete, but not to win), stop making excuses and accept that Wenger cannot grasp the fact you need to buy better players.

Barca were always going to win that game. You played the best game you have played in a very long time to beat a Barca side that did not play their best in the first leg. To believe that either side would repeat that performance is daft.

Wenger next manager to be fired?

Yeah because every gooner thinks like this guy. Come off it. If you read my post a couple up you'd have seen me say we didn't deserve to win.

I swear football fans (especially spurs fans) take more pleasure in giving their rivals **** than enjoying their own success. Maybe now you finally have a team with a little substance to it you can win yourselves some silverware and give us abuse that's based on more than enjoying us just missing out on trophies.

I know not all gooners think like that, and I have much more respect for the ones that don't, like you. (post now edited)

It's like anything though, you gotta have a bit of fun:lol::lol:

Football would be worse for a lack of banter!

And on the silverware side of things, I think we have won some more recently than you, which gives us the substance to continue abusing!!

Isn't there an advert on Gumtree somewhere a bit like this:

"for sale, one trophy cabinet, never used. Contact A.Wenger, Emirates Stadium, North London."

Very true - and being a United fan - I need Rhino skin !

Wenger's press conference today was classic. He said...........all anybody will remember from the match is the sending off !

No way. This will not happen.

Why not? Your second in the league, but you've not won anything in a while. Surely the owners want to win something and the nature of football says that the manager is the first thing to change.

I wouldn't be surprised if you don't win anything this season for Arsene to go over the summer.

Nice to see arsenal complete their second leg of almost winning something this year.

Spurs fans are just happy being at the top of the table again this year, especially as everyone has pulled their game up. The chmpions league is just the icing on the cake, albeit with a big fat cherry on top :)

No, I will remember that the only attempt on the Barca goal came from there own defenders.......

Just caught tonight's results

Braga 1-0 Liverpool - Think Liverpool should be able to turn it around in the 2nd leg.

Dynamo Kiev 2-0 City. Could be a tough 2nd leg but makes for a good game.

PSV 0-0 Rangers - decent away result for the Gers.

i watched the game, liverpool looked like they looked for most if the season, lacklustre. That was until andy carroll came on. I was counting and at one stage carroll got his head to 12 balls in a row that he either then held up, had an attempt with or flicked to another liverpool player in the final 3rd.

the difference was very obvious. The final 15 mins they looked like they wanted to get smething out of the game and with kuyt able to drop back the side looked much more balanced.

its painful watching those europa league games though, everything is so substandard, even the timing of the replays which often go on over live parts of the match. Its ridiculous, as is the commentary and the after match analysis. I hate every minute of it, including the 6pm start.

Changing the subject completely been watching the 1970 Brazil v Italy World Cup final ,tackles that would nowdays get a red card flying in but the players of both sides getting straight up and on with the game no rolling about in agony.
Really does show what a load of pansies today's players are,oh and the football was stunning as well

Totally agree

It's always the first thing that strikes me when I watch old football matches and you don't even have to go back to 1970 to see crunching tackles being accepted.

I don't think it's a case of modern players being 'pansies' as such - more a case of them being happy to go down like they've been shot and roll around in agony just to sway the ref and gain an advantage.

I think it's as much to do with the modern rules regarding how you're allowed to tackle - players wouldn't make half the fuss about being 'fouled' - if it wsn't actually a foul.

It's awful isn't it? I remember playing football as a kid and we were praised when we "took someone out" running down the wing and "crunch tackling" them playing the ball fairly but making sure you went in hard. It's not like there was intent to break bones or anything with stud first two footed tackles, but certainly it was a more physical game and people tended to just get up and play on.
I hate all this stopping the play when someone is "injured" nowadays as well, especially when they get up seconds later and are fine. Football used to be played with pride, but now there is the constant bending of the rules and play acting for the ref. Maybe FIFA do need to push respect for the referees yes. Watch Rugby, they all respect the ref and get on with it. To be honest though, refs in Rugby tend not to be so poor and do have technological aids.

Most of this stems from the foreign players. I think that if a player stays down he should stay off the pitch for say 5 minutes unless the ref thought it was a foul. I remember an Arsenal CL game this season (may have been Shaktar) when one of them went down in agony like his leg had been broken. Ref saw no foul and played on, I think the opposition attacked and suddenly he sprang up and started sprinting.... Another idea would be for the FA to study each game and if they see a player rolling in agony then jumping up giving thema 1 game ban.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has called Jamie Carragher's tackle on Nani during last week's 3-1 defeat at Liverpool "disgraceful".

and yet when asked about Rooney's blatant elbow at Wigan he says:

"There was nothing in it"

The irony.

You need to let it go mate

It's a tricky one for you I guess.

I see your thinking though.....If United win then Arsenal can concentrate all their efforts on the League as United would still be be fighting on all fronts.

Then again - having lost the Carling Cup final and then crashing out of the Champions League - being knocked out of the FA cup could really knock Arsenal for six and affect their league form.

The other thing to bear in mind and It's not a word I like to use but (Treble) was mentioned today on the TV

I guess the one thing neither team will want is a replay.

Come on United! (not somethign I say very often!)

For sure the pressure on Arsenal is like non other. Crucial game! Crucial time! So much it seems is riding on this game. It’s one of those games that can break a club. I'm so looking forward to it. On the one hand you have the force of united that are now playing in Wellington boots and then you got Arsenal who seem to be playing in Dunlop boots without laces. Both clubs contenders to the crown and then you still got the likes of Man C and CHELSEA kicking the heals. The Fa cup has one thing going for it... knacker the other teams to the point of exhaustion leaving....

CHELSEA as winners of the Premier league, again!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Also remember - Arsenal have 10 FA Cup wins to United's 11 so the last thing I want is them winning it this year and equalling our record.

rugby tackles, humps, yellows and more importantly reds. Lets hop its what it should be. If I was a betting man I put it on Man U. but looking at the defensive team and the sub bench makes me wonder big time. Alex def, thinking of prem. And lets face it he alone has killed the fa tournament!!! What a twit!

Gibson, O'Shea and the Dennis the Menace twins in midfield - Help us.

great build.

what a crap first half! sums up about everything about english football at the mo. Boring!

This is why Arsenal have no hope of winning anything with their current squad. Defensively and offensively we are woeful, we're only any good in the middle 3rd.

Fabs, see post 323...

Ouch!

Job done.

Great to see Valencia get a wee run out too.

Here's the way I hope the season goes.

Arsenal lose against barca and out of Europe - check
Arsenal lose to united in the fa cup - check after beating LO - check
Both of these keep arsenal with more focus at home to catch manurenited

Chelsea win on Tuesday - check and then Liverpool beat manure on Sunday making them drop 6 points. - check
Arsenal catch them and overtake them
Manure stay in the fa cup and champions league till the semis and then lose, keeping them stretched long enough to also lose out on the league
Ferguson retires because he is clearly blind as a bat for saying there was nothing in the Rooney elbow.

Liverpool win the Europa league, put together a strong finish for 5th place.

:-) a guy can hope

5 down!

I must have missed it yesterday but I've just seen Rooney's tackle on Sanga.

Refreshing to see that even in today's game, tackles can be firm, fair and don't result in players moaning.
