This could open a can of worms.......

England U19s to replay end of qualifier after refereeing error
England will restart a key Under-19 women's match in the 96th minute with a retaken penalty after a refereeing error.

Mo Marley's side, trailing 2-1, will replay the final minutes of the European U19 Championship qualifier against Norway in Belfast on Thursday.

German referee Marija Kurtes disallowed Leah Williamson's spot-kick for encroachment during Saturday's match.

But she wrongly gave Norway a free-kick instead of ordering a penalty retake.

The restart will take place at the Seaview Stadium in Belfast at 21:45 BST with a different referee, as Kurtes has been sent home following her error.

Uefa's ruling states that the match will be "extended according to the discretion of the referee". Approximately three minutes remain to be played.

With England winning earlier on Thursday - an equaliser from the spot on Thursday evening will put England through as group winners on goal difference.

I wonder if a few of the clubs' legal teams are looking at this now?

Well being a Uefa decision - it does make you wonder if the precedent is now set.

What if the error had been made with 40 mins remaining rather than 3 ?

What about those people who had the wrong people sent off? Free kick for simulation with no yellow cards given. Could be a method to make refs up their game?!

.

Wow, that's a major hornets nest me thinks...... Especially with the poor quality of refereeing we've seen domestically this year.

Thinking about it, with 3 minutes left after the spot kick, there will enough time for another goal to be scored...

Good result for palace today and sweet 'revenge' for tim sherwood too

Players celebrating by pointing their index fingers to the sky whilst looking up is irritating me now ... why are there so many sheep in the game?

Great to see another good performance without the biggest signings and some of those being vilified last year, again proving their worth.

The way Arsenal & United are doing it's a shame Chelsea got so far ahead as it could have been an interesting run in.

Maximum points from a tough run against Spurs, Liverpool and City and in some ways the next game (Chelsea) is the least important of the four fixtures.

Still hoping for 3rd or 2nd (not bothered which) rather than 4th.

This is aimed at no one here, but I hate all the media talk of teams not wanting to get into the Champions League qualifying stages/Europa League. If a team really thinks that they can't handle 2 games a week then give up the place rather than entering half heartedly. And if that is a widespread belief, then don't enter any teams and give the palaces up to other countries, who all seem to take the Europa League especially, with a bit more respect.

The more people go on about how playing in Europe will affect League form, the easier it is to be a cop out if/when a team does perform poorly.

Anyway, tonight's game. It could go either way. Newcastle are a Jekyll and Hyde team. Could be great, could be very poor. Liverpool are in a (hopefully) mini slump. Been losing loads of players to injuries and suspensions. :(

Hope it's a good game either way. :)

That's you told Phil :D

Who on this earth told Sterling he is worth what he wants?

Surely the most over rated English player in the league. He scored one goal, other than that, he was dreadful.

BBC sport headline tonight lol

"Liverpool move to within four points of the top four" :p

I specifically said it wasn't aimed at anyone here, it was just that post that struck a chord, and reminded me of everything people say in the media. Same with the League and FA Cups getting downplayed for the behemoth that is the Premier League, and ultimately the top 4 places.

Good game for Liverpool. Very good attacking wise, :) stick giving away chances at the back. I like Glen Johnson, who is not universally popular amongst Liverpool fans, but I though he had a bit of a shocker.

I thought Sterling's goal was excellent, but he should have had at least two more. And shows that he still needs to develop imho. I thought Ibe looked a bit rusty, but that was understandable coming back from injury. Coutinho did some very good things. There was one where he twisted and turned in the box, and I was wtf! But they didn't show it again because it came to nothing. :(

Lovren was a very lucky boy. He was helped by the theatrical dive though!

Liverpool should have been out of sight at half time. I saw that piece of skill by coutinho - brilliant!

Be interested to see how origi fits into this team next year!

I'm glad the toon didn't appreciate Pardew....all the better for Palace [emoji1][emoji1]

So most of the season gone, but lots to play for still - anyone want to volunteer their predictions in order for the top 4 and bottom 3

I'll go

bottom 3 (slightly heart over head). If I was a neutral I'd want Burnely to stay up out of all the bottom teams. Hull and Sunderland both terrible, but then so are we but we are getting better (slightly).

18th - Sunderland
19th - Hull
20th - Leicester

Top 4 - as is. I will admit I thought Chelsea and Man City were dead certs for the top 2.

1. Chelsea
2. Arsenal
3. Man Utd
4. Man City

Nice to see Redknapp piling on the pressure on Hodgson in his interview, 'we should be favourites to win the Euros'. Glad his knees are now better, and he has gotten over the huge conspiracy against him at QPR. As usual an interview filled with admissions of his own failures, his limited transfer and wage budget. One of the most despicable individuals in football.

As for the end of the Chelsea game  . Our fans who threw items towards the Chelsea players have rightly been condemned, but Fabregas and co could do with a look at themselves as well. Running over to the QPR fans to celebrate right in front of them, gesturing towards the fans, not that intelligent also.

It was the muppet from the Chelsea bench who ran over to Ramsey and celebrated in his face who p***ed me off the most!

Totally agree that the cup competitions get downplayed but I guess that's the price we've paid for the money that's been pumped into the Premier League and Champions League.

With Liverpool currently outside the top four and still in the FA Cup - I can also see why you feel that way.

United have no Cup football and aren't going to win the League so finishing in the top 4 (ideally top 3) is obviously the ambition just now.

Anyone who throws anything onto the pitch should not only be condemned, they should be found and banned for life imho. That players celebrated in front of them is no excuse. Nothing and no one goes onto the pitch other than the players.

It is not because Liverpool are still in the FA Cup, it's what I have always thought. If Liverpool get knocked out on Sunday, I'll still think the same thing. Liverpool had a really good season last year, but won nothing. :( Go to the Liverpool honours list, and there is nothing for 2013-2014.

Even on the Honours page on the Liverpool site they have the different competitions in the order, League Champions, (I know, nothing there for awhile before anyone chimes in :() Champions League/European Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. For me it should be the Domestic competitions first followed by the European competitions.

The obvious ambition of every team is to finish as high as possible, and hopefully win the league they are in and/or win the cup in whatever cup competition they are in. Teams may have good seasons, but unless there is something won, there is no ultimate success. Imho. ;)

I understand that money and hype talks, and I'm living in the past.

I agree that success is measured by what teams win but luck plays a huge part in cup competitions.

I tend to use a team's league position as a yardstick for how good they actually are.

Big difference in the Champs League for next year is that 4th placed teams will not be seeded. Usually Arsenal (our regular 4th place) get seeded because of their past history and size etc. Now (I think) only 1st & 2nd are seeded, the rest go into the mix. Of course, our 4th place spot has to "qualify" for the group stages.

2015-16 Champions League

Spain 97, England 84 and Germany 81 all have 4 places. 1st, 2nd & 3rd go straight into the group stages whilst the 4th place team goes into the play off round.

Italy 66, Portugal 62 and France 56 have 3 places. 1st & 2nd go straight into the group stages whilst the 3rd place team goes into the play off round.

England are still hanging onto 4 places as it's currently based on 2009–10 to 2013–14 performances.

What has changed for 2015-16 - The previous limit of four teams per association will be increased to five, meaning that if the Champions League title holders or the Europa League title holders are from the top three ranked associations (but not both from the same one) and finish outside the top four of their domestic league, the fourth-placed team of their association can still participate in the tournament.

As for the seedings. They're doing away with seeding teams by their previous Champions League co-efficient. The 8 top seeded teams will be the winners of each of the seven domestic leagues plus the defending Champions League winners.

Yeah that was classy! I've seen a few times and can;t quite work out if he was doing it to him, or if the angle makes it looks worse and he is in front of him.

Yep I agree - I said they had been rightly condemned. But....the Chelsea players ran specifically to a more vocal corner of our ground, one of them looking at the fans doing a come gesture is hardly great. People are responsible for their own actions, that includes the players.

I prefer this idea - it was always odd to potentially have a team seeded higher than a team that had won the league.

Chelsea v United:

I was pretty confident a week ago given our form but it seems all the players that have played a big part of late are out. With Rojo and Jones (injured) plus Evans (suspended) I think we'll struggle at the back with McNair and / or Blackett although Shaw may return and Valencia could be rb. Blind and Carrick would have helped them but given they're also both out injured I just can't see how we'll get by. Rooney has at least been good up front but he'll probably end up playing in midfield now.

Getting ready for Wembley

I don't like the way other Gooners are saying it will be easy, given our last visit to to the National Stadium, and being 2 down in 15 minutes......

As Arsenal have very little hope of catching Chelsea, I'm sort of hoping for a Chav win today, at least that keeps us ahead of Utd with a game in hand. (Sorry)

I know what you mean.

Beating Spurs, Liverpool and City in recent weeks was great for United in terms of points gained and preventing those around us getting points.

The Chelsea game is probably the least important of the 4 matches however it would be nice to get something from the game.

I hope there's still something at stake come the United v Arsenal game. It's a shame it's not a few weeks earlier.

PS

Not sure who I want to win in the Arsenal v Reading match.

Part of me supports the underdog but if Liverpool win the other semi, Arsenal will have a better chance of beating them in the Final. I don't think I could stand all the cringe worthy Stevie G's birthday cup final stuff.

Looks like Falcao up top on his own.

Perhaps he can get another hat trick v Chelsea

I'll not hold my breath lol

Kind of how I expected the Chelsea United game to pan out.

Thought United's changes worked well other then up top. Best team in the first half but caught with a sucker punch before the break.

That was game over for me as soon as Chelsea scored given options.

Looking ahead I thought McNair looked good again and Luke Shaw seems to be back on his game although why LVG replaced him with Blackett I'll never know given we were 1:0 down.

On the whole I was quite happy as I expected worse. Rooney had a couple of great chances but hey ho.

The result probably makes no difference to who wins the title or anything else.

Arsenal v Reading was a good game. Very unfortunate way to lose though. Got to feel for the Reading keeper.

Hope the Liverpool v Villa game is good, and it doesn't end in such a way for any player.

Right team won. Reading did nothing much tbh

Glad we won but feel sorry for the Reading players, especially the keeper. They gave everything today and in a way it was their cup final. Thought we were poor today but a wins a win and I'll take the same performance and result in the final.
