Here's a question. Are Liverpool a better team, in the current system, when Stirling is up front rather than Sturridge. Are they better, as a team, without Gerrard?

I've felt for a couple of years that Liverpool as a team would be better without Gerrard. For many of the players passing to Gerrard was an easy way out so that they didn't have to take a chance, and possibly fail. Last season he turned back the clock a bit, and because he was injured for a while, a lot of the team realised that they had to step up, and a lot of them improved immensely because that. He made a big difference against Swansea, which I didn't think he would have done, but thankfully for Liverpool, he isn't, or shouldn't be an automatic choice as he comes to the end of his time at Liverpool. I think Rodgers has managed the situation very well.

For Sturridge, he's been out for 5 months, and it takes a bit of time to get back up to speed. No matter how well Sterling, Coutinho and Lallana have done, they are not prolific scorers. Since Sturridge has arrived at Liverpool he has averaged a goal every 1.5 games, and so needs to be given time to fit into the new system, or the system has to be changed to get the best out of him. He is by far the best forward at the club.

I'd say they are better without him now. They certainly seem at their best playing at a higher tempo without him.

That said he's always going to be the type of player who can grab that key goal or come on and control a game when they're already ahead. Not unlike Scholes towards the end of his career.

Henderson has come on leaps and bounds without him too.

I half watched it.

Swansea should have been out of sight by half time.

A win is a win though

A Utd fan should now that this season. ;)

Yep, Swansea where the better team in the first half. On the coverage I was watching, the commentator said if you didn't know the teams, only who were the form team, you would have thought Liverpool was in the white kit. :(

Our problem is scoring now that Bony has gone, I think if he was still playing for us we would have probably won that game. Him and Sigurdson were developing a great partnership. Gomis made some claims in Janaury how un-happy he was and should have been playing even though Bony was the highest scorer in the league. He has scored one header against Arsenal at the beginning of Novemeber and the deflection against Man U a few weeks ago.

It has been rumoured that he was to be dropped and try Sigurdson up front as the main striker, but it hasn't materialised yet. It will be interesting who we get in during the summer. I cant see us getting another Bony as Laudrup was the reason he joined us and some of the Spanish players, which some were got rid of during the last summer. To me, we have weakend the squad with some of them going and we lack the creative flair we had, although we are on target to finish our highest points tally since joining the league.

Must say, a small minority of the Liverpool fans were scum throwing p*** over OAP's and some disabled fans. And after the game, a stone or similar thing missed my head by a few inches. If you want to be the tough boy fight with your hands.

Very sad. :( Hopefully it was a small minority.

They need to be found an made an example of. Only way to stamp that kind of thing out.

CCTV??

I hope you write to make a complaint. Don't let the minority that ruin it for the others get away with it.

The one in the ground where p*** and other objects thrown will hopefully be picked up on CCTV. The OAP/Disabled who park next to me were victims and complained to the police, so hopefully they will be caught.

It does seem that night some games do bring out some of the idiots with the big clubs, think Chelsea last season or before were the same. It maybe that the tickets for night games go past the season ticket holders as they can't get time of work etc.............. and then reach the local idiots.

Don't get me wrong we have some idiots, hopefully the game can eradicate them for the joy of the genuine fans.

'This is Anfield' was always about having cups of pee or crisp packets of crap thrown over us.

These days I watch from the comfort of my sofa with my kids. Still have to deal with the pee and crap though ;)

Not a Liverpool fan, but hearing you'll never walk alone is awesome. Must be amazing seeing/hearing in in person.

Especially when Pardew scores a winner :exit:

It's to scripted and predictable.

Celtic's YAWN is bigger and louder but equally cringe worthy.

This one made me chuckle

That sounded like a good game, listened on the radio.

Did Gerard deserve to go?

Could others have gone as well?

Yep - Even when we were the best team in the country we found a way to be average at Anfield. Today an average United team bossed it. Made for a good game though.

Gerrard deserved to go.

Came on to 'impose himself' and tried a bit too hard. Clear stamp.

Martin Skrtel could have have seen red too.

Good to see a bit of bluster though.

Well, it was a clear stamp from Gerrard so I don't think there was too much argument with a straight red. But Skrtel's stamp on de Gea at the end looked just as bad. I wonder if there will be any retrospective action on that?

BTW - listening to Jamie Carragher on Sky after the match - why is there such a big pause between his sentences - is someone feeding him things to say through an earpiece or is it just a slow brain/mouth connection? :D

Slips, back passes, stamps, 'Stevie Me' took one for the team to deflect from the result because it has to be all about him. :naughty:

He even did a self pity interview afterwards and spoke as if the defeat was down to him despite him being on the pitch for about 30 seconds lol.

Only saw Skrtel's challenge once so can't comment but it looked poor.

Utd deserved to win. Gerrard deserved to go.

I was hoping Utd's game against Spurs was a flash in the pan, but they continued that form. :(

The Chel$ki game is a good one. Unfortunately going to have to miss 2nd half. :(

@ColinMurray: Dive, skill, dive, skill, skill, skill, goal, dive, skill, dive, dive, skill, skill, goal, dive, disallowed goal, dive #half-time #ElClasico

Colin Murray summed it up well!!

Good to see barca still have a few refs on the payroll. Bale was miles onside. Dirty cheats.

Seen again now.

Clear red card offence but ref had no chance.

Have to wait and see if it get's dealt with retrospectively.

Who is the idiot commentating on the Spain game that doesn't know how to pronounce Andrés? So annoying!!

Harry Kane is definitely the chap in form. ;) 80 seconds to score his first England goal.

But then again, 80 seconds though, Gerrard could almost have got sent off twice in that time. ;)

FA Cup Semi Final tickets purchased today, another trip to Wembley :)

There's nothing like a trip to Wembley with your club

Come on you Gunners!

Liverpool well beaten by Arsenal today :(

Arsenal played very well, but we were horrendous, given the ball away too easy and woeful defending.

No top 4 spot now

I'm not fussed whether United finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th as long as it's one of those placings so (with some tough games coming up) I was hoping for an Arsenal win v Liverpool today.
