It shouldn't be called the Champions League, we know that, when actual Champions need to pre-qualify. Rich League? Status Quo League? Money League? All more apt than names than the 'Champions' League.

UEFA is close to changing the seeding system for the group stages of the Champions League, Sky Sports News’ Chief News Reporter Bryan Swanson can reveal.

UEFA has confirmed that, under new proposals, the top eight seeds would comprise of the defending Champions League winners, along with the seven domestic league winners of the top-ranked UEFA nations.

Initial talks over the seeding system took place earlier this year, and the plans were approved by the club competitions committee in May.

UEFA president Michel Platini, and other top officials, hope the new rules will prevent defending league champions seeded lower than other teams from their country.

UEFA plan to change the seeding process for the Champions League from next season onwards

Chelsea and Arsenal were both in pot one in this month's draw and seeded higher than Premier League holders Manchester City.

The new rules would prevent top-ranked domestic champions from being drawn in the same group.

Had the rules been introduced this season, it would have meant Manchester City were placed in pot one.

The plan needs approval from the UEFA Executive Committee before it can be introduced but it is hoped it would take effect from next season.

UEFA's next Executive Committee meeting takes place on September 18 in Nyon.

UEFA has also confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ that it has received no complaints from any club involved in the Champions League this season following Thursday's draw in Monaco.

Obviously they want the 'biggest' teams on board but yes - it's prevents the smaller teams becoming bigger.

My biggest gripe isn't 'who' goes into the competition but the whole group of 4 with 2 going through.

As soon as the draw is made you can pretty much name the last 16

Group winners kept apart - there's your 8 and the TV folk are happy.

Lots of goals today. Everton and Chel$ki had a goal fest, and Newcastle Palace had an exciting end to it.

I would prefer a draw also but never going to happen - 'everyone' wants that guaranteed top teams in > better TV revenue. There was no chance of Celtic not being re-instated - huge support, global fan base. That said to be fair to UEFA the rules are the rules.

My friend (an Arsenal fan) felt much the same way. Started watching Hampton and Richmond. Got back into it. Much much cheaper to attend, good day out, just enjoyable (he says). Not sure on the comparative standard of football but for many people who go to games that's not all it's about.

I let go of the drama years ago. I don't get too excited when Liverpool win or lose. I enjoy the good times, and ignore the bad times. Letting go has meant that I don't get wound up about opposition teams too.

The high's may not be as high, but it all has little effect on my mood when Liverpool lose.

That's exactly how I feel

I'm in my 40s now with 4 kids.

One day you're looking up to players hoping to emulate them when you're older - the next day you're looking down on them wanting to clip them round the ear.

I'm not saying I've outgrown it but I don't dwell on it too much.

I still make sure my kids know which team they should follow though

ive got it on good authority that the remy deal fell through because of his attitude when meeting with the Liverpool staff, giving it the big "i am", the yanks just told him to jog on, pity really as i felt it would of been a good signing

I thought Tim Howard was very lucky to stay on the pitch yesterday. He could have been sent off three times. Handled outside the box, and manhandled Costa twice. Lucky boy.

It wouldn't surprise me. It was weird that it all fell apart when he got to America to meet the manager and staff. Saying, or implying it was a problem with his medical, when it may not have been is not right.

It would be interesting to know if Rodgers met Balotelli before he signed.

It will also be interesting to see if he plays tomorrow, and where he plays.


And of course, how long before he does something mental.

Very good game from Liverpool today. I wasn't that optimistic after Liverpool's game against Cit€h, and the way Spurs have started the season. Spurs didn't have a sniff today though.

Two great goals and a generous (but still a) penalty, but there were many chances.

Balotelli could have scored three. Overall he had a good game. When he is a bit sharper, the goals should come. Sterling got one and maybe should have had another two too.

Really good at holding play up as the rest catch up, good out wide and reliable. Might not score as many as some but but he's been pushed here there and everywhere. I know he's not the most fashionable player but I'm quite sad to see him go.

Will be interesting to see how he does. You'd imagine he'll get a good run in the team until at least Xmas, probably in a relatively settled position. I think he's a good signing, but not sure he's the goalscorer Arsenal fans were hoping for - let's see.

Falcao to Utd is an odd one. I know they may be getting two strikers leaving in Hernandez and Welbeck, but they are having problems getting Di Maria, Mata, Rooney and van Persie in the same team. Where does Falcao fit in? And who makes way? And wasn't it defenders they needed? I think it will take more than Danny Blind for that defence. It's going to be fun to watch. Falcao supposedly on £350k a week. And QPR baulk at Borini wanting £90k a week.

Hull have gone a bit mental with transfers.

You'd have to expect Van Persie to be injured for a while, Mata and Di Maria are not strikers per se, and you cold argue Rooney plays better off a striker. As they say, it's a nice problem to have! Looking forward to Blind, he looked excellent in the WC. Not sure how him and shaw will line up together though.
