They have a good academy.....will they be promoting some youngsters through? Although they've totally dismantled a really good team

It's great having kids coming through the Academy, but you bring them through gradually, not have to bring in a load at once. Doing that too often can have them falling down and out of the League if they are not careful.

Liverpool finally signed Divock Origi. :) He looked quality in the World Cup, though we will have to wait until next year to see him in the Premier League, as he goes back to Lille on loan for a year.

So who will Liverpool sign up front then? Or is the Borini injury forcing them to keep hold of him?

Do Liverpool need to buy anyone up front? They have the same number of strikers as last season, plus one more if Borini stays and doesn't go back out on loan. Yes, Liverpool have lost 30ish goals from Suarez, but Lambert may give 10-20, and if they make the defence more solid the goal difference could be similar to last season. 1-0 gets the same points as 5-1. ;-)

Suarez may have got a load of goals, but the rest of the team were scoring too. People forget how good Sturridge's scoring record was because of how well Suarez did. You want someone to play around him.

Remy would have fit in well imho, but no one else stands out at a reasonable price. And no need to spend just for the sake of it. ;-)

liverpool were doing alright during the suarez ban from what I remember, but i still think that by making the defence less leaky, the goals scored will drop ... people forget how many games were one by a single goal's difference too, they weren't all 5-1 ;)

Liverpool nearly did it worth a great attack and an average defence though, and were pretty exciting doing it most of the time. :)

But the best combination of attack and defence usually wins. Bettering the defence usually takes something away from the attack, but hopefully not enough to lose more games, and hopefully win, or at least not lose, more close matches.

I hope next season is as unpredictable as the last though. :)

What Liverpool have lost is the pace of Suarez, and Sturridge needs to become more of a team player - he was awful for England in the World cup "it's my ball and I'm going to score all the goals" doesn't work, except for down the park with your mates... Suarez created a lot of goals too, don't forget that.

Just settling down for the next game.

Made a point of not having a drink tonight.

perhaps I should LOL

Did ITV win the rights to the game? :-) Commentary could be interesting!

2 out of 11 ain't bad I guess.

Very strange having Vidic on the other side.

A few good signings the past week or so for Everton. Resigned Barkley to a 4 year deal (means we'll get more for him when he's sold in 2 years after the Euro's ;) ), Mo Besic on a long term deal, and Lukaku to be announced later on a 5 year deal. Some good young players in the squad now! Still need another striker as a foil/backup to Lukaku, and a pacey winger would be nice.

Liverpool v Man City was a good game. City were the better team for most of it, but Sterling came up with a great equaliser a few minutes from time. A penalty shoot out, with some awful penalties followed,  but Liverpool shaded it. :) Obviously our new German scored his penalty. ;)

Defence looked a tad shakey against the pace of navas.

Robinson and Coates to play this season?

Good Henderson goal too. Sterling will carry on where he left off I think?

Also, did anybody else heD rumours of Ronaldhinho to QPR?!?

you wonder whether a top 6 team should take a punt on him as a free transfer?

I thought Coates played pretty well. I like the fact that he came back from the World Cup early. I hope the World Cup will have given him some confidence.

Frank Lampard to City then.

So City are loaning themselves players from their sister club to meet their quota of English players

Interesting. Didn't see that coming.
City plan to register the England international for both their Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

I wonder who will be paying his wages, and does he contribute or not to FFP rules. So City could be getting an International player for nothing.

Think I'll watch Man Utd v Real before Liverpool v AC Milan tomorrow. Be interesting to see how they do against the Real attack. :)

As for FFP - Remember this is the club that now gets a squillion in revenue through naming rights for a stadium they've extended their rental on for a pittance. Etihad's rather close links with the club's owners mean they're basically giving themselves their own money and calling it income.

109,000 tickets sold for United v Real

Not overly bothered about the result but I'm pleased with what I've seen from United so far in the tournament. Real are already out of the competition, have looked rather iffy and can't make the final but they're further behind in terms of pre season and have players out.

It could be a United v Liverpool final.

Not watched the Real games but saw a screamer scored by Bale (was it against inter- not sure?).

I think Bale will do well this season - looking forward to el classicos!

In other news very pleased with the signings Palace have made. Not too flashy but good value!

United v Real Madrid

Not on Sky - The match is available globally except, on this occasion, in UK & Ireland, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, UAE, Yemen, Australia, Norway, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand

Bit of a poor show - I'll have to watch it on MUTV which so far on the tour has had terrible sound.

Great first half performance from United.

Michael Keane v Bale eek - Here's hoping the second half substitutions don't derail things as it's been a good watch so far.

3:1 United - happy with what I've seen so far although I'm still hoping we'll strengthen in CM and defence.

City bomb out so regardless of the Liverpool v Milan score it's a United v Southampton (oops I mean Liverpool) final.

Nipping out shortly to catch the Liverpool game at the pub. :)

Sonogo, 4 goals for Arsenal today. That was something I never saw coming ! Joel Campbell looked classy too.

Sonogo, Giroud, Sanchez, Campbell. Suddenly looks ok up front. Then there's Ramsey, ox, OZIL, Walcott to return. Potentially exciting time for you gooners!!

I'm 99% sure Sanchez will be a huge hit for Arsenal next season.

For me - Sanchez / Rodriguez / Vidal were the 3 big names this year.

I'd take Vidal over the other 2 because of where we're lacking quality (call it grit) but I can't see it happening.

In terms of the other two though - I'm looking forward to seeing them now at Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Utd looked a lot better than last season. Which wasn't hard. ;)

Real played better before Ronaldo came on. He still doesn't look fit. Bale looked good.

Liverpool were good without being great. Milan were poor, but we made them look not as bad as I think they are. ;) They are still a month away from the start of the Serie A though, which will hopefully make a difference for them. Apparently they finished 8th last year, 45 points behind Juventus.

The Liverpool magic is working on Lambert, he missed a penalty.

Liverpool v Utd on Monday night. Be interesting to see what teams play.

I saw a few old Liverpool games replayed before the live game, and one of them was Liverpool v Arsenal from 2009. It was the game when Arshavin scored 4, but Torres was on fire. You forget how good he was for Liverpool  when he's been so average (being kind there ;)) for Chel$ki. It may have been more by luck than judgement, but that was an amazing bit of business Liverpool did. :)

In hindsight £50m for Torres looks like good business by Liverpool but at the time it was probably about right for a player that was a World class striker.

Carroll on the other hand was just plain weird. £35m for a player that had scored 14 premier league goals in 5 seasons.

Liverpool played in a way that suited Torres down to the ground and it's been Chelsea's failure to do that which makes it look like good business by Liverpool. That said he's contributed at Chelsea and won the FA Cup and two European trophies.

Torres said he moved for silverware and just looking at the move from that perspective it worked for him. Given that though, he has never looked like the player Liverpool had, and he's not looked a happy chap for the most part. I think he may have been paid a bit more whilst being so unhappy though. ;)

The Torres money paid for Carroll and Suarez, + £5m. On his day Carroll is a World beater, it is just that those day's are few and far between. Suarez is a World beater, just a bit mental occasionally.  So we nearly got two World beaters for near enough the price of one.

Given Carroll's seeming fragility\bad luck, Liverpool were lucky to get what they did, and not have had to deal with his injuries. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though. :)

I noticed during the Real v Utd match last night how many red shirts were in the crowd. Suprising given the the popularity of Real World wide and the large number of Spanish speaking people in the US.

Spanish newspaper Marca seems to want to portray that there were more white shirts, and so Madrid fans, in the 109k crowd than than red.  :( Quite sad really. No one would have given the pic a 2nd thought if they had not messed about with it.

Apparently Marca have a reputation of being the propaganda arm of Real Madrid. I'd tend to believe that, judging by the pics.

EDIT Oops, didn't see dinners post on the same subject earlier. :$
