It seemed weird when there were Euro Cup competitions qualifiers during the World Cup, :jawdrop: I can't recall that happening before. Or I never noticed.

And it is also odd to have pre-season friendlies days after the World Cup Final.

Liverpool had their first friendly tonight, minus those who were involved in the World Cup, regardless of how early they may have returned. :( ;) Mostly youngsters obviously, and 10 changes at half time. Still, nice to see some of the younger players get a run out. Another game on Saturday.

On his first day in the job, former Holland boss van Gaal inspected the magnums, jennies and jeroboams assembled by Ferguson over 27 years, and declared them woefully substandard.
Van Gaal said: “There’s a few big-name labels here that simply aren’t pulling their weight.
“I don’t care if it’s a Chateauneuf-du-Pape or a Slovenian retsina, if its mouthfeel isn’t velvety it’s going straight down the sink.”
The Butthead lookalike went on to announce that the days of three-for-a-tenner deals from Morrisons were over, also declaring a moratorium on any wine that used exclamation marks in the tasting notes or had a cartoon animal on the label.
Van Gaal’s comments will fuel suspicions that Ferguson allowed the quality of United’s wines to decline in his final seasons in charge.
Rumours have also abounded that the long-serving coach secretly emptied several prize bottles of rioja before his departure, replacing them with his own blood, which has a slightly lower alcohol content.
Man United fan Tom Logan said: “I want us to buy loads of English wines even though they cost a fortune and look embarrassing when you put them next to proper European stuff.”
Van Gaal also dismissed the merits of the single bottle left behind by David Moyes, a bottle of cava put on ice in August last year and never opened.

Borini out £14 million
Remy in £8.5 million

Bet Rodgers can't believe his luck! Still can't believe no-one else went for Remy at that price.

Its not April 1st you know!

Neither done deals yet. Reports are that Fabio is resisting the move. It's great business all round for us though.

Anybody want me to create the Talk Photography Premier League Fantasy Football League for 2014-15 ?

If so I'll start a new thread and put the joining code into the first post.

OK then, that's it created folks

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

Talk Photography - Code to join this league: 208132-57373

It's early but unlimited transfers between now and August 16th

Thanks for setting the new league up. Joined and hoping to do a little better than last season!

Lallana out for 6 weeks, after suffering knee injury, in training :( Serious dent to Liverpool's plans for the start of the premership.

Very impressed with Ander Herrera yesterday - it's so refreshing to actually see a midfielder playing for United - we were even able to move away from the donut formation.

I know it was only a pre season friendly against LA Galaxy but given they're up and running in their season can't quibble with 7-0

Delighted to see Reece James grab a couple too.

PS

Anybody watching the International Champions Cup games ?

Group A
Real Madrid
Man United
Inter Milan
Roma

Group B
Man City
Liverpool
AC Milan
Olympiacos

Final - Group A winner v Group B winner

United 3:0 Roma at half time.

I'm enjoying pre-season so far.

Great goal from Pjanic mind!
Just seen it, I agree, great goal.

Loic Remy deal to Liverpool is off. Sounds like something wrong with the medical, though can't find anyone saying exactly what yet. He apparently does have some history with his heart, but was cleared to carry on playing at the highest level. Liverpool have taken all week to check his medical results, so they must be sure they have made the correct choice.

Pity, because he was quality at a very good price. He's a player that can come on and make a difference, rather than someone who has to play into form. It'll be interesting to see if Liverpool go after another striker, and how much they'll have to pay. Remy and Origi have been the main targets, and even if we do get Origi, he's off back to Lille for a year on loan.

Bony from Swansea?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we've already signed Frazier Campbell

It was a cracking goal although Amos didn't do very well.

Anyway - the tournament continues tonight.

Man City v AC Milan 9:00pm Sky Sports 1

Liverpool v Olympiakos 11:00pm Sky Sports 1

I'm delighted the Remy deal is off - hope it puts anyone else off. If he is playing for us next year I'll be delighted - he's the first real top quality striker we've had since Ferdinand. Still imagine he'll go somewhere even on loan but let's see. There must be something in it as no-one else signed him before us - that said I am not surprised he passed our medical and not yours, considering Bobby Zamora, Andy Johnson and many others have passed ours!

Southampton had better have continued with their youth team development as they've literally virtually sold their whole 1st team from last year....

Well, Liverpool have beenj banging on about a new stadium for years. They msy as well shift St Mary's to the Albert Dock.

They will struggle. The heart ripped from the team, good bet for relegation IMO with burnley and possibly west brom?

I can't get my head round what's going on at the Saints, complete dismantling of what was looking like a very good team. Still, I'm pleased with the Chambers signing :D I wouldn't say no to Morgan Schneiderlin either.

So far, my prediction is City, Chelski, Arsenal, Liverpool, Utd, Everton - in that order.

Same prediction for me as last season:

City / Chelsea - take your pick for 1 & 2

Arsenal / Liverpool / United - take your pick for 3, 4 & 5

Just a reminder the TP fantasy football league is set up ............

Chelsea for me. City next with probably arsenal shading Man U. Liverpool will struggle with CL and come 5th.

I still think Utd have some buying to do to make the top 4 - that defence is poor, RVP will be out half the season, and Rooney needs to get his backside in gear. I don't think LVH will be an immediate hit, the following season he will of had a chance to build his side.

If we're doing predictions then

City, Chelski, for the top 2
Arsenal, Man Utd for the next two,
Liverpool, Everton

Then Spurs will be in the mix somewhere from 4 - 7

I still think Utd have some buying to do to make the top 4 - that defence is poor,

Herrera looks a class act in midfield.

Whilst he'd cost a fortune - I'm hoping (rather than expecting) that we can get a deal done to sign Vidal.

Agree about the defence though. Shaw will be good for many years to come and whilst Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra may have been on the decline, it's a lot of experience out the door. I'm pretty sure LVG will be looking to strengthen there.

I think Liverpool will pull it out of the hat thus season and Man C will come second.

Seriously, have you seen the Premier league stats for last season ? For forward players Suarez came top with over 1250 points second place was just 855.. That's almost 50% difference from 2nd to top, and he did that with a 10 game ban and a couple of injuries. The gap Suarez will leave is enormous.

He is, along with Ronaldo, Henry & Bergkamp one of the top international players ever to grace the Premiership. Whoever Liverpool sign will be be "leagues" behind Suarez.

Luis Suarez 1254
Eden Hazard 855

Wayne Rooney 781
Daniel Sturridge 740
Romelu Lukaku 718
Olivier Giroud 688

I fear for Southampton, it is one thing to buy loads of players, and try and integrate them into normally a quite successful team, but to sell so many of your best players from a quite successful team could be devastating.

At time of writing, ;) Southampton have sold 5 players for £92m, and bought 2 players for £19.9m. I was surprised that they have actually bought some players. In theory they have £72.1m to spend. But I doubt they will.

I'd like to know if they told Ronald Koeman about their plans before he got the job. At least he seems to have a sense of humour about it. Or maybe it was not meant to be funny. :$

They have a good academy.....will they be promoting some youngsters through? Although they've totally dismantled a really good team
