It's normally a frantic scrappy affair at Anfield.

Rooney injured.

I'll go for :thinking::thinking: 1:1 or 2:1 to Liverpool

I hope the Shankly stuff is respected.

If we play as well as last year I'll be happy. Our Achilles heel will always be finishing though.

I'm going to miss my first LFC v Man utd game for a decade because it's Noah's birthday. He's so awesome though I honestly don't mind.

Spurs have had scouts out everywhere identifying players

Some say they may even have one in the Liverpool camp. ;)

Wiltshire is world class. I think Walcott would get into pretty much any team. Podolski and possibly cazorla too would make most teams.

Wiltshire possibly, if he stays injury free for a period of time. Walcott has improved, but I still don't think he's world class. He would probably get into most teams though, I agree. Cazorla is very good, but inconsistent. Podolski, never saw him much for the club teams he's played for, but seemed great for Germany. I don't think he's playing at the level I've seen him play. He should be at his peak now age wise.

The Liverpool team looks as good as it can be for the Utd game, but the bench looks a bit lightweight. Then again the Utd bench isn't looking as good has it has looked in the past. Hernandez is always dangerous off the bench.

Fingers crossed it's a good game, and the headlines are for the football. :)

Good job I had Sturridge as first scorer too!

I think Sid is old to know better (42?)
However, i'm guessing he's Canadian, so we should let him off  ;)

As for TS, their 'debates' are generally recycled wind ups aren't they?

Correct with the age, but I'm from Birkenhead. I was slightly trollish with my comments...but really, the Liverpool v Man U game has only gained significance since the the Mancs started to edge closer & closer, then surpass, Liverpool's league record, and the fact that $ky invented the Big 4. Before that, Liverpool's big game was against Everton.

Utd winning on Yellow cards so far. ;) It could still go any way, but Liverpool are looking the better so far. The early goal helped. van Persie looked a bit frustrated and is in danger of getting himself sent off.

Just watching Richard Keys not understand what offside is after all these years.  Sturridge was apparently offside when the ball went backwards, as he came from an offside position to become active. You can see Andy Grey confused and thinking what are you on about while trying to explain to him that he's talking rubbish without coming out and calling him a ****.

I hope someone puts that clip on Youtube.

Well that was a nervy 2nd half.

Solid display from Liverpool. Pretty poor from Utd for me. Not many chances created for either side, but you expect more from the Champions. Utd seemed up for the game, maybe a bit too much.

There didn't seem to the usual Utd fluidity and organisation. I noticed whenever the camera went on Moyes the players on the bench seemed to be watching closely Moyes reactions, which I never noticed that with Ferguson, but then maybe I wasn't looking. It's time for Moyes to earn his money. ;)

Happy Birthday Daniel Sturridge.

Nothing nervy about it. An assured performance and an easy win against a very average team :)

It's always nervy when you only have a 1-0 lead and are soaking up a lot of pressure. Not getting the extra goals has cost Liverpool dear over previous years. Lots of wins lost because the game wasn't put out of site. Also more goals breeds more confidence. I could go with all 1-0 wins all season though as long as we win. ;)

I wouldn't go that far:eek:,a goal from a set piece a lot of first half possesion
and you never came out after half time;)saying that you defended very well against a muted attack

Nah. It was easy. I'd happily play against that 11 every week. I bloody love David Moyes.

Dont rise to it Jim  Nick has expressed his satisfaction at winning 1:0 at home to an "average" team ... it's that attitude that keeps liverpool happy to come top of the mid table positions at the end of the season

Easy tiger!

We're going to win the league  The top six will be:

Liverpool
Chelsea
Manchester City
Cardiff
Tottingham Hotspurs
Arsenal

Also, the team we faced today WERE average. The one world class player they had was not given any service from those behind him. Liverpool may not be a team bristling with world class talent but we keep winning football matches.

The best part is that moyes is happy with the performance! One decent shot from outside the box!

Never saw old bacon face happy about losing to the scousers. Genius appointment!

Beautiful isn't it?!

Him not being here is the only reason I've started coming into this thread again!

Also looks like Arselol are going to do us a favour and beat Tottingham too!

TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

We've knocked the mancs off their bleeping perch! Five points adrift. I'm going to be partying like its 1990 come May.

HAHAHA!

A difference in transfer activity of £108m, against a manager who's supposed to have "lost the plot" and Spurs still can't crawl their way out of Arsenal's overbearing shadow! Perhaps they should have brought on some of those world class players I've heard they splashed all their cash on

Long way to go and I don't expect us to still be top come May, but to be the only team with a 100% record and not to concede a goal is something I did not expect!

Top 6 this year and I will be happy, thats top 6 with being very close to top 4. Then build on this next season for hopefully top 4. Annoying thing is this year there is 6 teams pushing for them 4 places. Going to be tough ask for all those teams.

Haha, I was like you about 8 years ago. I still think we can certainly beat the rest of the league on are day. But recent history shows we just not be good enough but things are SLOWLY changing towards a brighter future.

I do think Utd have not had a decent side for a number of years and they have got by on their name (teams being intimidated by the name). But now Fergie has retired everyone is looking at Utd different and they could well struggle for a number of years.

The league table doesn't lie. We ARE the best team in the land. It will take something special to knock us off the top! Victor Moses is the final piece of the puzzle. GOALSGOALSGOALS! I love football.

Oh how we will laugh come May

Yes. Yes we will. United having to rely on the fair play league for a place in Europe  Five points adrift!! FIVE! And we still have Victor Moses to get his red boots on too! Oh my god I love David Moyes so much!

I might order myself a new kit with Koscielny on the back. I hear it's excellent value because it includes a £25m striker in its pocket :D

I'm made up for Arsenal. Nothing but respect for Wenger. Also made up at Tottingham getting beat. AND made up that the mighty Reds are back where they belong. Looking down on the rest from their high horse!

GO FOOTBALL!

^^^ as above

Delighted for Liverpool to win earlier - and not just because my housemate would have been insufferable to live with had they lost!

"Just over 24 hours left until the transfer window closes; what will we see?"

Wenger - "Maybe we'll have a good surprise for you!" *wry smile*

:naughty::naughty:

Edit: and finally AVB confirms Bale is off to Madrid (SkySports)

Edit again: Where do you think you're going? Stop right there!

I half watched both games today from the sofa - man flu.

Liverpool v United was about what I expected - scrappy and not much to write home about from either side. Liverpool obviously delighted with 3 points but either team could just have easily won drawn or lost.

Arsenal v Tottenham. I couldn't decide who I wanted to win which always leaves me a bit uninterested. I did find myself fascinated by the Arsenal players and all their hair cuts though.

Reading that Capoue may have broken his leg as a result of the collision with Santi. Arsenal fans of all people know that nobody deserves that. I hope he recovers quickly.

Won't be long till the Fergie time piece is out of retirement to give them more of a chance.
Didn't think Man Who would only have 4 points after 3 games. Rooney was the missing link today.

2008/09 - 4pts from first three games.
Title winners? Manchester United :D

As i have said, our 1st 11 will be on a par with the top teams and better than the likes of spurs, but a few injuries/suspensions/tiredness later and then where are we???

Lets not get too cocky after 3 games.

I said when the fixtures came out that our first game (Swansea away) was a must win game for Moyes.

The next 3 games - Chelsea, Liverpool and City were always likely to see United off to a slow start and get people jumping to all manner of conclusions.

Last season Swansea away, Chelsea at home and Liverpool away (against 10 men and a favourable penalty) saw us reap 4 points. Same as this year.

Far too early to deduce anything.

Apart from the fact that David Moyes has massive eyeballs - has anybody else noticed that ?

Ozil to Arsenal is a done deal at €45m

Awesome signing if true, but wont believe it until his standing next to Wenger wearing an Arsenal shirt with a pen in his hand signing his name on a 5 year contract, even then I would like further proof before jumping up and down with excitement.
