Yawnnnnnn

It was a joke ;)

City had the £10 student Union thing and also school & youth club trips. Nothing wrong with that as they're trying to grow support but the reason City are often teased on the subject is because a lot of these 'sold' tickets aren't taken up and it's clear their official attendances are different to the actual attendances.

Exactly the same as United have claimed earlier this year - 'sell outs' seem to have had a lot of unexplained empty seats.
It seems now your team is losing the plot you have to start taking an interest in little citeh. Even though you keep saying we're not your real rivals ;)

I can't say I particularly care about City one way or the other if I'm honest.

You're cetainly not our rivals this year that's for sure ;)

I wonder how the 'so called best English referee' can sleep at night, he's that blind I'm surprised he can even tell it's night. Just another in a very long line of horrendous decisions this season, good job they're professionals (well it says so in the company name) or they might get some stick from somewhere, though not the FA of course.

We woz robbed.

Liverpool should clearly have had another penanlty but the headstand and treble windmill from Suarez probably made the ref doubt it. There was talk of his 'reputation' but it was always going to be tough for the ref to award another penalty so soon after the first. Had Suarez not aimed for 5.9s or 6.0s then it may have been given.

I couldn't care less who won this one but I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say "woz robbed". Yes, Liverpool were the better team on the night but Arsenal took their chances and their keeper had a good game.

I'm half kidding. Not all that bothered, to be honest. Bigger fish to fry.

Seriously though, I would have loved a cup run, but I wasn't that excited about the tie. I half expected Arsenal to pull some kind of win off after last weekend - it's tough to do that again. Saying that though if it wasn't for Fabianski...

I half expected Arsenal to pull some kind of win

That's what I meant when I said It's amazing how quickly expectations and values change.

I would have expected Arsenal to win (or at least be favourites) against Liverpool for just about every game they've played for the last 20 odd years.

5 mins back near the top of the league and a thumping win and somehow it's a surprise result

God help us if Howard Webb is the best British Referee. How he could miss the foul on Suarez is beyond me.

No matter what Suarez's reaction was, no matter if there had been another penalty 10 seconds before, it was a definite penalty, and if you can't spot that when you are less that 10 metres away, then he may not be the best after all.

I thought a lot of his decisions were questionable. A lot of Arsenal fouls were not acted upon to the same degree as the Liverpool fouls. Arteta was very lucky. And I'm not saying that the Liverpool cards were unjust, but there should have been a few more Arsenal players penalised with cards. There was a quite nasty stamp on the ankle very early in the game which definitely should have been yellow.

Interesting article here about Howard Webb and Liverpool. ;)

Saying all that, I think Arsenal deserved it if anyone had to win it, as they were more up for the game, and the Liverpool front line was misfiring and Liverpool didn't seem to have control of the game. Maybe a draw would have been the fairer result.

Had the 2nd penalty been awarded though, and been scored, it would have been interesting to see if Arsenal could have held on. ;)

I think it was a crucial game for Arsenal to get a result in, lose, and they are out of a Cup again, and all likelihood that they would finish another year trophyless. Morale would have been down before the game against Bayern, and that is a game they need to go into confident. Few would be surprised if they were to lose to Bayern, but to do it after the Liverpool league result, and a loss again in the cup, would have heaped all kinds of pressure on Wenger and the team. It'll be interesting to see how they do against Bayern after the win on Sunday. I just hope it's a good match.

Let's not mention that Gerrard stayed on the pitch when yet again he should have walked ;)

There aren't many players around that can boast such favourable treatment week in and week out!

By the letter of the law he could have been sent off but that's what annoys me about the laws and modern football.

I've said it before but pens used to be quite rare. Now it seems every single game has a pen and half the time they're 'won' or 'earned' or just plain wrong. They're too easy to get and It just devalues a real goal scored in open play.

Same goes for players being sent off. Half the the time it's a result of two yellow card incidents which most of the time cause no harm or have any real effect on the game.

I'd love to see penalties scrapped but I can't see how. Perhaps make a penalty worth half a goal. It sounds stupid but compared to a legitimate goal that a team have worked hard to get, pens are just cheap.

Sendings off - keep the straight red for dangerous tackles but there's nothing worse than a game being ruined because (by the letter of the law) the ref has to send players off for two soft yellows. Change what constitutes a yellow card or at least change 2 yellows becoming a red.

They're obviously not that easy to get judging by the 'foul' on Suarez. ;)

I agree about 'winning' penalties, you are awarded a penalty for someone fouling you.

As for two yellows = red, there has to be a deterrent for misdemeanour's and persistent fouling. Some yellows are soft, but then after the first yellow you should modify your behaviour not to get a second yellow after the first one. Yes, some players will be unlucky, but others will be stupid and get what they deserve. Score a goal and then get a yellow for taking your top off, and then get another for a foul and it may be seen as a harsh red, but everyone knows that you get a yellow if you take your top off.

It's the soft yellows that annoy me as (like you say) it can often then mean incidents worthy of a yellow are overlooked by the ref later in the game because he doesn't want to dismiss a player.

A mis-timed tackle can often be innocent and harmless yet result in a yellow card. It's no more about bad behaviour than a mis-timed shot or a mis-timed run. Just an error.

Sending a player off for two yellows used to be fair punishment when yellow cards were only awarded for worthy incidents. It's so easy to pick up a yellow card now yet two of them still amounts to a red.

Some yellows are seen as soft, but there has to be deterrents, otherwise you may end up with only 'leg breakers' penalised. If there is a chance you get a yellow for a mistimed tackle, then don't mistime it. Easier said than done I know, but there are tackles that players could pull out of, or have no chance of winning that could be aborted, but they make the bad challenge. There is normally some discretion from the Referee, and normally a 'soft' mistimed tackle has been preceded by a few fouls, and so gets a yellow.

Come on City, catch you later for laughs or tears guys.

So what are the predictions for tonight then?
I'm going (or hoping) for a 2-1 to City.

Damn unlucky. Was a good game (more so the second half). City put up a proud fight with only 10 men.

Demichelis is a tit.

Deffo red card, not a penalty, conceding that second could have killed us off.

He may as well put the best attacking line up we have out in the second leg, see what happens.

Brilliant. We've just put the worlds slowest defender in Demichelis out against Messi. Lets hope Barcelona can't play for laughing at the mis-match
Not just tonight, but I really don't see how he makes the team... there are better defenders at Fulham!

Not a pen for me but the red was fair enough. Almost certainly tie over but you never know. I didn't think Barcelona were that impressive but as an away leg they did a job. Bit boring watching 5 zillion pointless passes but hey ho they do like their completed passes and posession stats.

PSG looked good - another example of a stupid second yellow = a red though.

it'll be good to see city go out .... something tells me United would be drawn against them in the next round (yes, I think we'll scrape past Oly) and being embarrassed by Barca will not be as bad :D

FFS. Wenger has to go. Huge game and he doesn't play giroud or podolski and plays sanogo? Words fail me...

Good to see bayerns bribe money got to uefa in time. Red card my arse. No way would robben have got to the ball in time.

Not watching although I know the score.

How's my man Kroos getting on ?

Why the F was that Arsenal centre forward on the pitch?

You were a man down, rightly so IMO, the whole team worked their socks off, except that lazy, inept sod up front, he did nothing, zero, square root of fkall. Wenger could have put anybody on, they would have chased and worked harder.

I find the whole selection and managerial points during the match, absolutely baffling.

I did see Sanogo run... once. Looked like a championship striker. Poor decision to play him.

Blimey

Great game at Anfield today.

Brilliant pass for the first goal by Sterling for Sturridge to score. Very good goal by Henderson from the edge of the box. Excellent first time shot into the roof of the net by Shelvey.

Liverpool should have had it sewn up with a two goal lead, but Swansea kept in the game and got a bit of luck with an own goal off Skrtel, and then Skrtel was finally pulled up for his 'physical' defending.  It was only a matter of time.

Suarez seems to have lost his scoring boots, but was still a big influence, brilliantly setting up Sturridge for his 2nd goal. :)

4-3 may not be the best result in the overall scheme of things, especially for the defences confidence, ;) but I'd rather watch Liverpool win this way by one goal than Chel$ki atm.

Of course the Chel$ki way is what wins titles.

2-1 on that if Delia's team lose today the manager will be put into the cooking pot ;)

It may be what wins 'them' titles but you can even have a treble doing it both ways you know ;)

We were not at the races today, cracking game for the neutral but I nearly had a heart attack at Anfield today with the emotional rollercoaster that was the game today. Allen came on and looked very lively, not sure where Gerrard was!

Shame the ref seemed to make some shocking decision, but will check MoTD out to see if my view was right.
