Ah crap. Leeds giving Hull promotion. Well that sucks for football fans! At least Bolton missed out on the play-off spots. Not sure who I'd like to join us out of Palace, Watford, Leicester and Brighton. I don't dislike or have a soft spot for any of them. Really annoyed a team like Hull will come up though :(
 
21 second goal for Theo means he reaches 20 goals in a season for the first time.

Makes Bale scoring another screamer with their first shot on target and after another anonymous game up until the dying minutes a bit easier to swallow.

Now we need to turn the screw and not let them back into this game!

Edit: fastest goal of the season so far...that must count as a trophy? :lol:

What's so wrong with Hull? :shrug:

I like it when some of the more unfashionable teams make it up, because they are normally doing it with smaller crowds and less money. :clap:

The lack of money becomes a big problem once they have come up of course, but QPR have proved spending loads of money guarantees nothing. :shrug:

I normally like Watford, and like Zola, but not the way they have used loads players from clubs in Italy and Spain owned by their owners.


Great result from Wigan. :clap: Can't wait to see that on MotD.
 
I didn't realise that Arsenal had played more games. That makes the points tussle more interesting than I'd thought.

Yeah we're a match ahead by the end of today, though Chelsea and Spurs are yet to play each other. Things will go right to the wire for sure.

No wonder QPR haven't had much luck this season. They've had to play 19 games on this field (I hesitate to use the word pitch)! Bobble bobble bobble.

Need a Chelsea win, that way, we can afford to draw and win and Spurs cant finish above (unless they win the others 8-0).

Shame Peterborough went down, glad Wolves did, don't mind Hull and dont mind Bruce, would happily see Leicester go up... Pleased for Wigan - prefer if Norwich drop.

It was a stand not 'stands' and most Wolves fans weren't happy about it anyway.

Just another clueless decision made by a clueless board who have put the club right where they belong, and it's going to take some pretty strong medicine to get them back out of it! :(

The season comes to a close, the league is done & dusted and it's the following Saturday. The cup final is shown live on BBC1 & ITV with coverage starting at midday, fun & games leading up to the 3pm kick off in the Wembley sunshine and that gloriously traditional end to the English football season.

Except that it isn't! Now it's the weekend before the last games of the season, kick off is at the ridiculous time of 5.15pm and there is a premier league game earlier in the day and a load of games on the Sunday. :(

I am fully aware that this officially makes me an old fart!

I don't know why they have tried to diminish the best cup competition in the World to 'just another game'. :cuckoo: :bonk:

I've considered not watching in protest, but that won't help. :shrug:

It was the game that finished off the season. Not anymore. :bang: Now you have the possibility of league games taking priority to some clubs. What will be more important to Wigan, the cup final, or staying in the Premier League? :shrug: If Man City were still in with a chance of the league, they would probably put out a weakened team. Have the game at the end of the season and all those concerns are gone, and there is only the Cup to concentrate on, which is as it should be imho.

The FA could have kept the FA Cup special, but they have started moving it about to cater for other competitions, and have seemingly given up to the Premier League being so dominant, and to a lesser extent the Champions League too. :( They had a jewel and they have devalued it. :cuckoo:


They've also diminished Wembley as being special by having loads of playoff games there, which hasn't helped the FA Cup imho. There were some very famous players that never got to play at Wembley during their careers, and so made getting to Wembley in the FA Cup or League Cup more special because they realised it was something special play there. Not now.

Things change, but not always for the better. :shake:


Looks like the Champions League has the potential to be an eventful match if the Dortmund v Bayern league game is anything to go by.

Good luck to the many Wrexham fans on their way to the playoff final at Wembley this afternoon. A very important day for them and the climax of many years of fighting to keep their club alive.

It makes me an old fart too! I used to love the whole cup final day. The 5.15pm kick off time is also making my blood boil, but I will be an old fart that will be sat at Wembley hopefully watching my team (Man City) play well and beat my second team for this year Wigan (who I really want to stay in the Premier League).

I cannot get my head around the fact that as a City fan since the age of 2 who was at Newcastle with my Dad when we won the title in 1968 (and its my 47th birthday today:)) we are at another final so soon. Contrary to some people's opinions of how arrogant some of the City fans have allegedly become, most of us still sit in amazement at playing in big games and winning. Still not come down from the Aguerooooooooooooo goal almost a year ago when I sat with all the people that have been going for years and cried like a baby :). I think this will finally happen when Utd get presented with the title. They have thoroughly deserved it and I am already looking forward to next year when I think it will be a 4 horse competition.

Makes me an old fart too.

Cup final 1977 was the first game I eveer went to and some of my happiest memories were FA cup semis and finals.

The sad part (and again it's an age thing) is that whilst we can look back on how special it 'used' to be, there's a whole generation of young football fans that have only ever known it as 'third rate'. I guess what's even sadder is the fact that we're fast approaching the point where most footballers fall into that age bracket too.

Things change though, money talks and I guess there's been a price to pay. Do we really want our game to be where it was in the late 80's ?

Happy Birthday Chris. I'll be 49 in a couple of months so it would appear that late 40s is the official age that old fartdom starts. :D

No, but the 70s was the golden era for me. That 79 final when, despite Man UTD coming back from 2-0 down at what was thought the end, Alan Sunderland managed to bundle Arsenal's 3rd over the line whilst the Utd fans were still celebrating (sorry Phil :D) remains my favourite final.

Funny old world isn't it? I remember an Arsenal fan (not on here) taking the mick out of a 'weak' United side being beaten by lower league opposition. "It's still United," he squealed!

not really, everton are no more successful than liverpool these days. They are pretty even now looking at the last five years of both clubs. Although when was everton's last trophy? 1995?

Regardless of where they are though - it's still always a bad result if liverpool don't beat them because of the rivalry.
 
Gutted with this result. Really hoped the waiter would miss out on the champions league place and then loose the europa cup.
 
Always enjoy watching united lose even when it makes no difference. Had to giggle at the rafael sending off, you can't act like a petulant boy like that, amusing little chuckle from luiz as well, he had him right where he wanted.

Wasn't happy that United were flat but I guess it's understandable. I was surprised Chelsea were equally flat but they got the points.

The sending off (or at least the smile) was funny. I like Luiz even if he seems to divide opinion as a defender.

Hoping for a Tottenham win v Chelsea now just for interest.

The independent is reporting it as a Phil jones own goal but everywhere else seems to say it was Mata's.
