The one that required stitches to bring together the gash in his shin? Yeah.

I don't think excuses can be made for either tackle.

Whenever you go in to a tackle studs showing with your knee locked straight you run the risk of causing serious injury. It basically comes down to whether the opposition player has their studs in the ground or not at the time of the impact.

Yes, I'm sure Arsenal have been guilty of the same too (I'm thinking Cesc v Ward, though McCarthy himself said that was a fair challenge) and they're not exempt from my scorn if they make reckless lunges.

I guess thats where I'm confused. I don't see anyone making excuses for the tackle. It's more that the manager is just assuring people it wasn't intentional

The only reason why Nani hobbled to see the ref was to prove that he had, in fact, been caught as some 40,000 Liverpool fans thought he was feigning injury.

yeah right, it wasn't to play act in front of the ref to try and get carra sent off at all, nani wouldn't do that would he? Of course not

What you wrote was telling me that from what you understood, I thought the challenge was ok.
 
The last time RVP went this many minutes without a goal he was a winger for Feyenoord.
 
But when was the last time he played so many games in one season? He was a bit of a sick note at Arsenal....wasn't he? Think he's just tired and not used to playing so many games. I brought him out of my Fantasy Footie team at just the right time ;-)
 
He's still pretty influential out on the field and I think he's still assisted a few.

I've really dropped the ball with my fantasy team. It happens every year that I start strong and then gradually make fewer and fewer transfers and team selections. I've lasted far longer than usual this time around though! I much prefer doing it for the euros and World Cup because they're short enough for me to not lose interest.
 
I see Michael Owen is retiring......didn't he do that last year?
 
FA taking no action against McManaman for that challenge as the linesman saw it, they do not wish to re-referee matches :thinking:

Aggressive tackles are fine as long as they're seen, but don't you dare kick a water bottle, question a referees decision, fail to appear to a post-match interview or break their sponsorship deals. As if they FA didn't appear stupid enough already.

I have constantly moaned about the FA but I never expected this. Total incompetence.

Aside from whelan, everyone knows its a red. Guy should be banned for 3 games. Why can't the FA adopt some common sense for once.

Total joke.
 
Finally saw the tackle. Bit rash, definitely a red. But.. give the kid a break. He clearly went into the tackle with eyes on the ball.
 
My understanding is that if an official has seen the incident that's the end of the matter.

People can bring this issue up each time it happens but nothing is going to change this season. The rules cannot be changed mid-season.

Err... The Newcastle coach was sent off at half time (so the ref saw that), yet HAS been charged!!!

Can anyone justify the FA's actions? Yes, it is mid season, but people have thought this ruling was crazy for years, and I see no reason why it cant be changed.

So basically, the ref didnt see it but one of the linos did and thought it was fine. In which case he should never officiate a match again!

The coach is a different matter - I think you know this.

As for the rule, well I'd certainly agree it should be looked at again and it is clearly not working in instances like this one. There are implications for undermining referees, there will be lots of contentious decisions not as clear cut as this one that will provoke further inept FA posts so I don't think it is a simple change. There are no doubt lots of other issues to consider as well.

I still don't believe you can change the rule mid-season however.
 
Whatever team you support, be thankful you're not a Blackburn, Blackpool or Forrest supporter. Blackburn got rid of the 3rd manager of the season. :eek: And my sympathies if you are.

I have little sympathy for Appleton seeing how quickly he moved on from Blackpool. :nono:

Blackpool are on their 3rd manager, partly because of Appleton, ;) and Forrest are on their 4th manager. :eek:

Some of the manager sackings this season have been baffling, and the League Managers Association is talking of their embarrassment. Over a third of the 90 league managers have lost their jobs this season. :eek: :bonk:

Can't see it getting any better. :shake: Once that mental leap has been taken on the pain and cost of making the change, it becomes and easier thing to consider, and do. And everyone seems to be chasing the quick route to success. And increasingly, even when teams have had a little success, as in Southampton, Reading, or big success, as in Chel$ki, they still change. :thinking:
 
I am a Blackburn supporter and the disillusionment continues, with no sign of abating.

I just hope Gary Bowyer can step in, as he did post-Berg, and find some stability.

Hard to believe two months ago we were pushing for promotion and now we have to be very careful we don't get into further trouble at the bottom of the table.

That win against Arsenal seems a very long time ago...

As far as England go - I missed both the recent games so other than the score know nothing about them.

Just bored waiting for the league to start again if I'm honest.

I reckon people posting gifs of his antics on photography forums are probably his biggest fear.
 
I think you missed my sarcasm, I am saying that people and the media will go to any length to keep portraying him in this light. So any little thing he does (like this) it gets blown out of proportion and aforementioned gifs get spread all over the interwebs

No great lengths needed really. The cameras are everywhere and he keeps doing what he does. He makes it easy.

The best way for him put an end to being portrayed in that light, would be for him to put an end to the antics I guess.

.....the possibility of it being a witch-hunt ;)

Can't wait for the football to begin again if I'm honest. The international stuff has just kind of killed of everything over the last week or so.
