I'm not happy about it. Although its zero to do with the title race since as I said many weeks ago that's over already. But it means Everton go above us again and 2-1 down at the saints we need to do something in the 2nd half

Excellent result for Arsenal. Perhaps not the greatest performance but a hugely important result for us.

Also very happy for Southampton and Villa to have got themselves wins!

Well done Everton

Great result all round LOL

Well done Southampton

Great result all round :)

The Villa QPR game sounded a good one.

Today is...........

I think you're probably right

I think so. The gap was going to be 1, 4 or 7 points between us and safety today. We really had to not lose today.

If I was a neutral, I think I'd want us to go down above Reading, Wigan and Villa.

Going down might not be the worst thing in the world - I don't mind the Championship, as long as don't do a Wolves! In many ways, it's more enjoyable, and hopefully we'll win more than 4 games - this has been one painful season.

There's still time for wholesale changes in the relegation zone so I wouldn't say it's all over.

Everything is still possible, but today was a hammer blow, and certainly our chances have receded dramatically today.

On a positive front, Cardiff took another stride towards promotion today

I am hoping for qpr, Southampton and villa to go. Think it will be qpr, reading and Wigan/Sunderland.

Could it finally be the year? More than likely two Welsh team in the PL next year, who'd have thought! Can you give us Helguson back please.

Delighted that Fulham could do us a favour and beat Spurs. That leaves us four points behind with a game in hand. Really hope we're up for the chase and can make that 4th spots ours. Their run in certainly looks tougher than ours on paper!

Also pleased Wigan could get a win and keep the pressure on the others around the drop. Not sure who my ideal bottom 3 are but I do hope Sunderland find themselves in there :D

Shocked. Playing At home to Fulham is pretty much a banker!! But, at this stage of the season it is unpredictable. Even reading at home won't be easy.

Really hope Wigan stay up.

I've decided on my 3 I'd like to see go down.

Possible:
QPR
West Ham
Sunderland

Optimistic:
QPR
West Ham
Stoke

Dream:
Stoke
Spurs
Chelsea :D

I have soft spots for Southampton and Villa so I do hope they avoid the drop at least.

Of all the teams I'd like to get 4th, Everton top the list. I'd love Chelsea to drop out and that could happen, but I expect Chelsea will get 3rd and Arsenal will sneak into 4th.

Everton are definitely contenders. Our game in hand is against them as well which could swing things their way depending on how other results go.

I didn't have too much of a problem with QPR before the excess spending and the addition of Harry Redknapp. Those two things have pushed it over the edge for me I'm afraid. Blame 'arry!

I really do think we'll pull it off this season. And I'm sure you can have Helguson back, handy as he's been.

Yet another shocking display by a ref. how the Wigan guy got away without a red, or even any card, was a joke. Then a clear handball for a vital goal. The Newcastle coach was sent off and will no doubt be fined by the FA, as would the manager if he dared to criticise. Yet what punishment will the ref get? None at all no doubt.

I'm in two minds about it.

I spent a few happy years in Swansea - the house I rented backed onto the Vetch and I watched them during the grim times.

As for Cardiff - I was never so much of a Jack to dislike Cardiff but I like to see Swansea higher than them ;)

It will be good to have that rivalry back as long as it doesn't get messy.

To be fair to the ref he was behind McManaman so from his angle he wouldn't have seen the height of the foot or the angle the leg went in at. Serious questions of the linesman should be asked for why he didn't see it or didn't call it out.

The bit I hate is the age old line "he's not that type of player" that's spouted by a manager as an excuse for every ugly tackle that happens. How is that in any way an excuse? The tackle has been made, and it's bad enough that the manager can't argue it wasn't dangerous. That's enough to prove he is that sort of player because he's done it! It happens time and again and it really grinds my gears to hear it!

Why on earth can't the FA allow the 4th official to make a decision based on replay?

I don't think many players go out to harm a player. Most if not all players have probably made challenges that could have been reds, and I think that the lad didn't go out to do damage, he just got it wrong.

As Jamie says, linesman not the ref, but your point is valid. There have been some shocking decisions this weekend. If you think this is bad though, you should have seen what is was like in League one!

Agree with that, dreadful challenge all the same.

Why not have a system like we have in rugby league, if the ref is not sure what has happened, he puts the player/incident on report to be looked at later?

I disagree, to be "that type of player" it means he would be doing it week in and week out. To do one bad tackle you can't tag him now as a dirty player, everyone makes mistakes and we're talking about a game that is so fast you are reacting to things in seconds.

Sometimes I wonder how many people commenting on football like this have ever actually played it

Perhaps I articulated myself poorly.

How is stating that he isn't that sort of player of any relevance? The tackle happened, and it was very dangerous, which is reason enough for him to be reprimanded. Whether he has a history of it is completely irrelevant. Any attempt to mitigate the punishment of the player through such an excuse is pathetic. Just because it's his first time committing to a dangerous tackle doesn't mean it should be forgiven and ignored.

As for how much football I've played. I've played enough hours to have run my knees into the ground. In all that time, believe it or not, I've managed to not once fly in studs raised at knee height, I have never 'stumbled' onto the chest of the a man on the ground, and a slight glancing touch to my leg wasn't enough to force me to ground when running at a flat out sprint. I was far from the best footballer, but I've spent enough hours on the pitch to have a very good understanding of what's intentional or accidental, avoidable or not and what's a blatant dive and a foul.

It's relevant because the manager wants to protect his reputation. They arent mutually exclusive. Someone who doesn't intentionally harm others on a regular basis can still be guilty of a shocking tackle once in a while.

I don't believe by a manager saying he doesn't do this normally it's trying to make the fact he did it alright, he's just saying that out of a concern for a players reputation and to put into context what has happened was a mistake rather than a deliberate piece of foul play

Plenty others dont either, but its still possible - in all sports there is always the capacity for a mistake to occur without intention

It looks exactly like Jamie Carrighers on Nani.........mistimed but still bad.

you mean the one where nani got up after the tackle, ran over to the ref to show him then fell over like he'd been shot and stated crying his eyes out?
