So Man Utd at home today, can they do what Chelsea, Spurs and Man City have failed to do so far this year - and beat us, or score a goal against us for that matter. We will no doubt adopt the Scotland approach of 4-6-0 formation, with Tarrabt nominally forward.

I expect they will more likely do what Swansea did to us, but let's see, you never know - we are due some luck from 96 and Cantona's 8th minute injury time equaliser - I am not bitter about that!

It was 5 mins ;)

Great own goal from Irwin although Danny Dichio wouldn't agree.

I hope we (United) can get 3 points and put more pressure on City against Chelsea. I certainly envisage a tough game though. A point may be a good result depending on the other game.

Bought tickets yesterday for the Meelan derby at the San Siro on Sunday.

By the way has anyone been there with their DSLR or is it not worth the hassle?

Rafael caught that one well.

RVP off - hopefully just a precaution.

Pulled it out though.

Happy to see the Bluenoses stuff it up too although WBA winning wasn't ideal.

The Malaga contingent certainly did their bit for us! Why Giroud started and Podolski didn't get his shot down the middle I don't know, especially now we're finally seeing Cazorla on the left. Also not convinced by a Diaby-Arteta partnership deep in midfield. It feels a little sluggish but part of that may just be that Diaby hasn't had a run of games and hasn't started driving forward from deep. No matter though, he came off injured again :( I also don't know what Rosicky has done to be an unused substitute in almost every game when the few matches he does get he impresses.

Main thing is we clawed a goal back to get a vital 3 points. At least we showed a little more grit, and as importantly it keeps the fans off their backs slightly.

Really glad the toffees lost their game so it puts them only 3 points ahead with equal games played now. They've really gone off the boil of late which is nice to see.

I honestly don't know what to expect from today. Swansea must have shattered their confidence but then again, our best performances always seem to come against the bigger teams. The problem is, in order to avoid relegation, you have to beat the teams around you and that's where we've really struggled this season.

I almost wish we had last season's run in again! :gag:

It was a strange game, by strange I mean monumentally poor and dull, especially the second half. Being bottom of the league and losing 2-0 to the champions elect is nothing to be ashamed of, but I'm not sure how many more games I can watch like this where we have virtually no attacking threat \ shots. On a positive note I have now warmed up!

Watched ManU today in the boozer, Bulgarian commentary, played very well against a poor QPR side, the pitch was QPR's best player!

Clinton hill can count himself lucky not to get a red card for a Kung fu kick, Samba still looks a bargain but Carrick & Giggs showed lots of class in their work rate and passing.

Giggs really is a wonder. To still be so effective at 65 stuns me.

Knowing how knackered I feel after a match on a half sized pitch puts it into perspective.

I know he doesn't play as much these days but yesterday was his 999th game for United.

I thought you looked pretty mediocre really. Last year we were totally outclassed from start to finish, yesterday I just felt we were extremely poor in terms of possession, but you didn't do too much with it each time we gave it back to you. You did close us down well, I'll give you that, but I'd not say you played very well.

Carrick did look good though, lots of first time passing to feet, and forwards. Giggs looked no different to when he last scored against us back in the 90s!

Think I'd have preferred the Bulgarian commentary compared to the non-stop nonsensical ramblings of the season ticket in from of me -it was almost as bad as the match from a QPR perspective :gag:

A talking season ticket! Whatever next!

That is incredible. He's my age!

No wonder refs don't get any respect. The sending off in the cup final was a joke. With the l2 side losing 3-0 there was no need for a red card for a clumsy foul. I doubt any of the Swansea players wanted a red.

Dyer was funny though. Can't see why de Guzman didn't key him take pen though.

They'll be dancing down the Kingsway tonight.

I spent a couple of years watching Swansea at the Vetch Field during mt time there at Uni (my house joined onto the stadium) and it's fantastic to see how they've moved on.

One of my worst experiences as a fan was at Vetch Field. I used to live in Kidderminster and followed the Harriers home and away for several years. We got to the Welsh cup final against Swansea and it was held at their place. They hammered us 5-0, which probably saved our lives as about 400 face painted ******s invaded the pitch and charged our end. About 200 of us, mostly old men and boys. We didn't move a muscle to provoke them and they eventually got dispersed. As a 15 yo is foofing terrified me.

Seriously?? You wanted the ref to say "Aww, they're a League 2 team so I'll let them off"? And De Guzman is the penalty taker, that's HIS role.

On this case yes. Show a bit of discretion, at 0-0 a sending off but at 3-0 down there was no need. It was not violent play. Just a clumsy challenge.

But it's the rules, there's n room for discretion in that rule. He denied the player a clear goal scoring opportunity and he was the last man, red card was the only thing the referee could have done. He can't change te rules depending on what the match or score is.

Yep, agree.

But it's the rules

Have to agree - 'rules is rules' as they say.

Where do you draw the line - 1:0, 2:0, one division between them, two divisions between them, 89 mins left, 2 mins left ?

so your silly talk about football doesnt just stop at arsenal then

this is ludicrous

Refs apply discretion all the time. Bad challenges in the first few mins of a game often go unpunished when later on there would be a card. Some fouls in area go unpunished, whereas outside it would be given. Handballs are the same.

There are areas where they can be discretionary, this particular rule is one where they cannot. To give a yellow card for a foul anywhere else is open to interpretation and it is down to the referee whether or not they issue a yellow card. The rule with regards to a foul in the penalty area denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, however, isn't open to interpretation. It's a red card, end of.

Agreed. All the red can do by not sending him off is put himself under pressure from the FA.

He had to send him off, them the rules. Strange how Joe Hart didn't get any card for his challenge on Ba.

Interestingly, away tickets for yesterdays game at the Etihad - £59. Just £3 cheaper than that ludicrous moral gripe all and sundry bitchin' and moaning at Arsenal.

Aye, I mentioned that sort of thing when it was discussed earlier. Although £3 is still a lot of money to some folk.

Thats what I thought - no card at all???
