Time for wenger to go?

I think there are a few "porkie pies" coming from the boardroom:eek: It's not very often you see an Arsenal side with no superstars in it and Mr Wenger has made some terrible signings in recent seasons ie Chamak and Gervinho to name but a few

Theses were good players For their club before signing for Arsenal, as was Ashavin and Vermaelen.

Would you say Oxlade Chamberlain has improved as a player at Arsenal? I'd say his taken a step back.

Ashavin I think needs to play in the Cazorla role, he spent a lot of time on the wing, but he did go missing a lot, and i didnt like his attitude. Vermaelen I thought was world class but he has been awful for a year or so. Gervinho I never rated.

I dont think Ox has taken a step back. I thought he was overhyped after a few good games for us and England. He is a young player, who needs to be looked after like Giggs was, and to an extent Walcott.

In general though, Wengers signings of late have been very poor.

Wenger has £70m to spend now apparently.

Hasn't he had loads of money to spend for years, but doesn't.

Podolski and Cazorla have been good signings I thought.

Cazorla looked good at the start of the season, but from what I've seen lately, he isn't doing much. I expected more from Podolski, and hasn't been anything special for me. :shake:

And Giroud.

I think Giroud could be a success given time, but they need someone more prolific imho.

I agree Oxlade-Chamberlain has regressed, much like Walcott did after he arrived. Arrive with a bang, and then just look average for awhile, and then either disappear, or come out the other side.

I hope the same doesn't happen to Sterling at Liverpool. It's hard for these young players with talent to come in and stay in the team. It takes a few years to build up for constant games, and that can blunt the talent that they had in the first place.

There's been cash reserves in the bank for some time that exist to offset our remaining debt and keep the enterprise value up. Whether it's actually been made available to Wenger to invest in the squad is rather more unclear, despite what Gazidis is keen to impress in his PR exercises.

Cazorla was one of our better players even against Bayern. He made a few good dribbles and retained the ball well under a lot of pressure with little support around him to offload the ball. I don't buy the whole idea he's not doing so well now. He's outperforming Mata in his first season last year on almost every metric.

Podolski has (or at least he did a couple of weeks ago) the most assists in the league and the 3rd highest chance conversion rate. His defence contributions with Gibbs behind him have been impressive as well.

Giroud is getting into good positions, makes some strong runs off the ball, but needs to find the clinical edge in front of goal and has had less of an influence than our other 2 summer signings.

Overall I can't fault last summer's signings. They're all proving their worth.

Add to them Arteta and Monreal and we've made some good signings.

It's a little hard to criticise the signings of Gervinho and Chamakh when they'd both done so well prior to joining us. Squillaci and Santos are very legitimate criticisms for panic purchases, however.

The biggest problem we have is striking the balance between an attacking threat and defensive solidarity. Right now there's too little support from the 6 players upfield of the defensive 4 which leaves them exposed time and again. Watch how vermaelan was isolated on the left against Bayern and compare that with the way alaba and ribery doubled up on Cazorla/Walcott, and muller with lahm on podolski on the other side.

Games where our midfield/attacks do more tracking back tend to be those games like stoke and Sunderland at the start of the season where everyone was hailing the Bould effect for new defensive solidarity. With that solidarity came a lack of options and threat at the other end of the pitch. We're just lacking that edge in the transition phase once we lose position and get out on the back foot.

Yes - that's what I was alluding to hence the 'apparently'

It never fails to amuse me (and not just with Arsenal) how the existence of 'war chests' comes to the fore after people get up in arms about lack of investment.

Just this min switched the TV on to see it was Liv 0:3 Zen and a free kick to Liverpool which Suarez scored.

Could make for a good game now provided I keep watching and apply the jinx.

Liverpool giving it a very good go. Not sure quite what the 'wall' was thinking for the suarez free kick  Mind you, not sure what Carragher was doing either!

Both Benny Hill moments

Zenit SP look a shambles now and are there for the taking.

Cracking free kick. Just as well they didn't listen to the crowd singing for Gerrard to take it!

Zenit are crumbling before them. They've completely lost their heads under the pressure.

Lovely 2nd free kick from Suarez - I know Joe considers it beneath LFC but the team and fans are showing real passion for the game which is good to see.

I trust Joe won't take any pleasure from this result, given how low his view of the competition is ;)

Suarez really does annoy me with stamps like that. Completely deliberate and entirely unnecessary. The sooner he leaves the premier league the better, despite his quality.

Last minute of the game, needing a goal to complete an amazing comeback and Liverpool are passing it about at the back instead of launching it forward.

A wonder shot from Hazard with 30 secs to go wins it. When the rest of the team tried all night to walk the ball in.

I had forgotten just how pants espn coverage was. Dire!

i dont think its beneath any club. I just think the competition is lame and a farce. We already have a european cup - why have another one for the ones who failed to get in it?

Will Brent be 'bitterly bitterly dissapointed" ?

I see your ESPN and raise you ITV + Andy Townsend.

"If you can score one, push and scrape another goal, then you're right back in it"

There was also a laughable attempt to explain the implications of the away goal!

No way, Suarez is one of if not the best player in the whole league. I love watching him play.

The bad out ways the good for me. I used to have quite a soft spot for Liverpool but Suarez has well and truly squashed that. He's vile, though exceptionally talented.

Must admit the last few times iv'e watched Liverpool they look like they can develop into a good side:eek:

It's the manager that's the problem. He is not getting the best out of the team

He's a good player but a disgusting little scrote. I couldn't care less whether he stays or goes.

If we had to go out, I'm glad we went out with a bang.

So close to being a historic game, they just took their foot off it with 10-15 mins to go and started messing about at the back. There were chances to win it. Que sera sera.

I pity Carragher making such a mistake in what will probably be his last European game. :( I think it may have actually spurred the team on though. It would have been so easy to roll over with a 4 goal deficit, but they give it a very good go.

Two very dramatic late goals for Spurs and Chel$ki.

Suarez is the best player in the league at the moment, only made better by how much he riles people, it provides that extra oomph to wind other teams fans up with

I wouldn't say he riles people - I think people just find him disgusting.

oh he most definitely does rile people. He riles people in this thread too, its why people bitch about him so much.

Suarez really does annoy me

If people just found him 'disgusting' etc it would only be mentioned once asked. To constantly bring him up and talk about him means he's getting on your wick.

Same with ronaldo when he was in the prem. Riled people right up the wrong way

you personally can say that he doesn't rile you.

But he certianly riles folk. It's great fun to use to irritate other teams fans. I do it a lot with the wife's family. It's good!

If that's what makes you happy. Personally, I don't try and irritate people. Not even over football.

Does that mean he's getting on your wick ?

I think he tends to get brought up following one of his sly moments - which is quite often.

I think it's also because you always bite - which is fun.

Exactly! you see, it's fun when people bite. Thats my whole point. Every time I see someone moan about him it makes me smile - it's fun!
