Just watched the highlights. How Marin only got a yellow for that lunge at Mbia is beyond me and how he didn't get a second yellow for bundling SWP over off the ball is a complete mystery.

Very well taken goal and a very nice assist from Taarbs, only hope we can build some confidence on the back of this result. If we are to go down, we have to at least go down fighting!

He was outside of the box tbf:) Great finish all the same tho

He was out the box and clearly fouled, so even if he went to ground it wouldn't have been a dive. If anything it showed the type of contact that players can withstand and stay on their feet, but rarely do.

Both would cost around the same when u add fees etc, and whil Ba may cost say an extra 20k a week he is a proven goal scorer. Ok, has little sell on value but Ba would have been the better bet.

Ba also has dodgy knees.

Staying on his feet on this occasion does nothing to disprove all the dives he's taken previously.

By all accounts it sounds like he had another sensational game though. Hopefully he'll continue to show the good without the bad...but not that good :D

Edit: Squillaci has confirmed he's in talks with several French clubs and may leave in January or June. Here's hoping!

Jamie, you are so behind the times. He hasn't dived at all in weeks. He's Learning and listening.

Just watching the Liverpool highlights. Suarez looked unplayable and Gerard's crossing was spot on.

Can anyone tell me why, when Steevie G lumps it up the pitch and occasionally finds one of his team mates it's lauded as fantastic passing but when West Ham or Stoke do it, it's called hoofball?? :)

probably because when stevie g does it 9 times out of 10 it lands right where it is supposed to go and with intent, but when stoke or west ham do it, it's pot luck

That'd be it.

Absolutely. Alonso also made a career out of it.

I really hope he is. It'll take more than a few weeks of honest behaviour to turn my opinion around though. Let's see if he can finish the season without another dive or other incident, then I'll be more inclined to warm to him a little.

Unless he scores a couple against you. ;)

He's also very nice to kittens.

I miss his mischevious behaviour it made it so much more enjoyable to see the faces of the fans who detest him when he scored against them

i hope it comes back!

Yeah it was much more interesting when he was biting and stamping on people's chest

Honestly, you Liverpool fans are one of a kind!

Sky now reporting that the Ba to Chelsea deal is done for a 3.5 year contract. I hope that's a sign that money bags couldn't get Falcao. If so I'm very happy!

Hey! That's a bit bloody steep. We are individuals, you know.

Hasn't affected him last 2 years though.

Ticking time-bomb. Especially on those wages and knowing you would be unlikely to get insurance.

I think how high the ball goes tells you a lot, a high looping arc is less precise than the type of pass Gerrard did to Suarez. ;) Doesn't mean it's a totally different type of football though. ;) A teams reputation means that they are labelled as one type of team or another. The media loves stereotypes.

Yes but he was on a per game basis at Newcastle so it's less of a risk, sign him up for four years and his knees go and you've wasted your money

I doubt he'll be playing often enough to set off any knee problems. ;)

And speaking of players who stamp on people, looks like things have been getting heated at Man City. Balotelli's a d**k. Get shut as soon as possible imho, if you can find someone stupid enough to take him off your hands.

Haha I love Balotelli's antics and the almost mythical tales of him paying people's petrol and marching into a school to give a bully a dressing down. Mancini is hardly the man to help him mature, either. His man-management skills are pathetic. Mind you, he's not good at any of the other aspects of management in my opinion. Any success City have is down to the quality of the players and perhaps other members of staff, but Mancini is as much a nuisance as Balotelli!

I've never seen Stevie G "hump" the ball up the field theres normally a level of precision involved pace, backspin even:)

it's called a 'ping'.. like scholes does and like beckham does/did. Firmly driven accurate pass - it's an art mastered by few.

Looks like Djourou has gone on loan to Hannover. There's also lots suggesting that Chamakh will be joining West Ham and Squillaci to a number of French clubs. Even though they're only loan deals, at the least it frees up some of the wage budget to be allocated elsewhere. Wenger is said to have made personal contact with David Villa and also to be chasing Mbiwa. I know better than to trust even the most reliable of transfer rumours though!

I have a feeling David Villa may be past it. It's a big injury to come back from at his age. Hope I'm wrong though, because he always seemed a honest player who gave his all.

I don't trust Wenger to buy anyone.

It wouldn't surprise me if he got rid of some players and didn't replace them. :bonk:

Yeah, I know better than to expect too much from transfer windows nowadays!

If anything it's worse with Twitter so popular. Hundreds of fake 'inside knowledge' accounts creating rumours that are completely unfounded. There was a great example yesterday where BBC Sporf began a rumour that Sneijder was on his way to QPR, within a couple of hours the transfer had been added to Sky Bet, odds had plummeted and it was the number 1 trend, all because people couldn't or didn't try and trace the source to the Spoof account. It's funny, but at the same time massively annoying how easily these rumours snowball from nothing but someone having a laugh behind their keyboard.

Fortunately I did see the original BBC Sporf tweet and knew it was rubbish from the start on this occasion, but I did get tricked by 'OfficialLFC' the other day.

so with demba ba at cheslea is he still worht having the your FF team?

at newcastle he was guaranteed to start every match and play 90 mins. But at chelsea with mata, hazard, ramires and oscar all being attacking midfielders is ba going to partner torres or just replace him in a game?

It's a dilemma. I think he's a better striker than Torres and in better form, but I'm not sure I can see Benitez dropping Torres given their history at Liverpool.

That said, the thought of Ba getting the type of supply possible from Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Moses etc. is quite scary.

You would think Torres would move on for his own sanity. It's not happening for him and a move away for a not so astronomical fee with less media spotlight might revive his career

I'd take him Back on a YTS.

I wouldn't. :shake: :nono:

I think Torres may have turned the corner at Chel$ki recently, but he will never be the player he was at Liverpool. Liverpool built the team to his strengths, and the strengths of a player at the top of his game, but he's over that peak of his career fitness and form wise imho.

The thing is, he's at a team where it doesn't matter how he does now, they will probably buy someone for £40m+ in the summer. And where he benefited from keeping his place in the team when he probably didn't deserve it, because he cost so much, and the management wanted to prove that he was worth it, the next expensive player may get that ahead of him. And if the new striker comes in and does well straight away, then it's bye bye Cresp, I mean Shev, I mean Torres, no matter how much they may lose. ;)

I just saw an interview with Sam Allardyce talking about Joe Cole's arrival.

"He only talks about playing", "It's refreshing when a player is not all about the money", "He just wants to play".

Now if I had just been given £3m+ to move to a different club, I doubt I would be worrying too much about wages. :bang:

He didn't get much of a run in the Liverpool team, but from the times he did play, he didn't do much, and that was in a poor Liverpool team. ;) I think he's a spent force. Hopefully he can regain some form like he apparently did in France, but I doubt it.

Looks like Rafa's decision to rest key players for the Qpr game in favour of a competition they can realistically win has paid off

That's 2 for Ba on his Chelsea debut. Torres looked rather unhappy from the bench! As I said yesterday, I really don't think you can leave Ba on the bench and play Torres instead.

I could imagine only one place Torres eyeing up longingly and that would be the homelands of Madrid. Athletico that is, his boyhood team.

If Chelsea have anything about them I would be talking to AM about a cash & Torres move for Falcao come the summer!

They seem to prefer playing 4-5-1 so unless they are going to revert to a 4-4-2 it could be grim for Torres

Not convinced with the Manchester United team selection but hoping for a decent match against West Ham

Wanted to watch the United match but stuck in work until 7.30pm
Will have to make do with the BBC website text updates.

Could be a very narrow game without any natural wingers starting. One of your main strengths has always been stretching the field to create the gaps. With a bench like yours you shouldn't struggle too much though.

Lovely finish:)
