You can all call me Derren Brown, the ref for next weekend's United v Arsenal game is the one and only Howard Webb. Surprise, surprise.

Going to add to my prediction a somewhat dubiously awarded penalty for United.

If last seasons game is anything to go by we wont need one :)

lets see man u vs arsenal

ashley young dives in the box on 98 minutes to award them a penalty - I bet the odds on that have just been slashed now that Howard Webb is the ref

thats the thing. It's becoming so frequent that it's just standard procedure and not original at all

But you are suggesting that Arsenal are better than Utd and are unfairly treated by referees....h'mmmmmm how many years is it since Arsenal won a trophy?

It is an old bleating record that a loser puts on every time Utd win......why not bring up the Drogba offside goal to effectively win the title for Chelsea.....why not bring up the 'ghost' goal by that little spanish fella (garcia?) in the Champions league Liverpool v Chelsea.......why not bring up the Henry handball France v Ireland, why not bring up the Frank Lampard over the line goal at the world cup, why not bring up the goal England should have conceded at the Euros, why not bring up the fact that Utd (last seasons stats) appear in the opposition penalty box more times whilst attacking and therefore have a greater chance of having a penalty awarded....... I could go on and mention heaps more incidents involving all the clubs in the league but as you can see it is like a broken record and it can go on and on and on and on and on and on.............

I just love listening to folk (esp Joe) bang on about United and refs. Sometimes I wonder if there are any other matches going on.

Because, Tommy Boy, we ****ing hate Man Utd! It's not that difficult to work out. ;)

Sprayed my screen then - top answer :D

I felt exactly the same about Liverpool thoughout the late 70s and 80s and I've no doubt I'd be the same again if they (or anybody else) ever had a sustained period at the top like United and Liverpool have enjoyed.

Yes, Arsenal and Chelsea have had their moments but it hasn't been the kind of 20 year long sustained success that United fans and Liverpool fans have had to endure from each other.

The problem I guess is that some folk here clearly hate certain clubs so much that almost any post match opinion they have on that club's matches can only be taken with a mahoosive pinch of salt.

That said - we all know who supports who and it's what makes the opinions and the banter all the more funny.

It was a bit tongue on cheek. I don't hate them all. Just Whiskey Face, Ratboy, your board and most of the fans. I quite like your tea ladies. ;)

I agree about the decades of dominance but when we were top only Man Utd fans hated us. Everyone hates you. ;)

There is no bigger fan of Man U than me, man & boy supporter, ex employee of said club (I told you I was good at sport but unfortunately not good enough) but I can watch a game/match of sport with a totally unbiased view - maybe I am freak.

Am I allowed to say I call a spade a spade because that is me and although I would like my team to win, if I feel they were soundly beaten, I will say congrats to the other team without the need for sourness or thinking somebody cheated (especially referees).

Banter is fantastic and it plays a big part in rivalry of fans to help them enjoy the spectacle but don't start believing the banter as fact which some of you do because you become so worked up about it.

Enjoy sport!

Not true, Everton fans did, Man City fans did, Leeds fans did and Nottm Forest fans did and that I know for a fact.

I love your facts Tommy. You knew all those people to ask! Everton only started getting bitter when they stopped challenging. Leeds was more a rivalry than hatred except for the nutters. Can't speak for man city or forest as they're subhuman. ;)

I think the many years in the wilderness have clouded your memory.

Lots of fans hated Liverpool back then but the world has changed and the media, internet etc give your average Joe (no pun intented) a platform.

I no longer hate Liverpool, I don't hate Arsenal or Chelsea. I don't particularly hate City but if they go and dominate for 20 years or so I'm sure that would change. To be hated by your rivals is what you want and at the end of the day.

Would I still hate Liverpool if they were still winning loads or would I now hate United if I'd been brought up a Liverpool fan - almost certainly.

****, you mean not everyone loved us? I can live with that. :)

Yep - you didn't quite keep it going long enough to reach our level of unpopularity.

Ha! That's probably more to do with the classless way you run your club. ;)

No problem at all with winners who win with dignity and respect.

who were the last team to win with dignity and respect? I know you won't say united.. so Arsenal 2004?

sorry.. may have misread you.. you don't mean the league overall?

Barcelona.

Unless that was deliberate, that comment was bordering on comical :D

Off the pitch Liverpool have shown themselves to be without class and quite frankly a PR embarrassment to themselves and football. So much so that even Liverpool fans were divided. The less deluded spoke of their disspointment in the way the club was dragging itself through the dirt and eventually key staff within the club were removed.

I agree that recent events have not been handled well. I am talking historically. Our last owners were cowboys and the current ones, though good intentioned, seem naive.

I've no intention of going over the Suarez/Evra ground again.

i also see Stevie Me has been opening his big gob and putting his foot in it;

Steven Gerrard describes Everton as big, physical long-ball merchants
• 'There was only one team trying to play football,' says Gerrard
• Liverpool captain criticises Everton's Phil Neville for diving

the match statistics do not support Gerrard's assessment. Everton enjoyed more possession than Liverpool (56.2% to 43.8%), made more passes (400 to 314), had greater passing accuracy (78.5% to 76.8%) and played proportionally fewer long passes (13.8% to 14.6%).

and oh! the irony, Stevie having a go at someone for diving??????:lol::lol::lol:

Saw this on twitter: Ashley Cole confirms he is willing to act as a witness to the Clattenberg incident, as soon as Chelsea's management tell him what he heard.

Chelsea are also being investigated after reports of the Steward being hit by a seat back flung from the stands after coins lighters and other objects were thrown at Hernandez.
A Chelsea spokesman said: “A steward slipped and hurt his knee and went to hospital for treatment.”

you've got to question at some point Chelsea need to ask themselves 'do we really want to go through with this?'.. because if it comes on top, they'll be in a whole world of ****. If everything clattenberg has said has been heard on his mic by the other officials then there's no hiding place.. no lip reading, no taken out of context... surely this time we're going to hear the full facts and no bull

Can we rely on the other officials to be honest about what they heard? That's my main concern. There's no recording of what was said even though they were linked by microphone, so it'll be near impossible to prove what was said if the other officials deny it. And even then maybe he was just repeating something a Chelsea player had said

it wont be impossible. They'll be able to lip read like they did with terry and then they'll decide if it was within the realms of possibility.

yesterday morning on talksport they interviewed Graham Poll and he was adamant that unlike footballers, the other officials would say what was said over the mic, regardless of whether it was dropping Clattenburg in the mire. Take as much salt as you want with that :suspect:

Assuming the cameras are turned on the ref at the right 2 moments, which isn't guaranteed.

Sky were covering the match? They'll have between 30 & 36 microphones around the pitch to capture the crowd, the players and sounds from the pitch.

Terry's wasn't just lip reading by the way Joe. They did however bring in a lip reading expert to collaborate the evidence of the sound recordings.
