They've won 5 games - Norwich, Reading, Wigan, West Ham and Southampton.

Nobody expects them to finish 2nd but it's no hardship to fall short of an unrealistic target.

If he'd said that he was targetting 6th and didn't manage that, then that would be failure.

I have no problem with unrealistic targets. The idea is to remind the players that this is the standard expected of them. After a couple of seasons of mediocrity it is easy to do an Arsenal and think top four is the target. I think what he is saying is making up 11 points (however unlikely) isn't impossible and going for that makes top four seem more sumountable.

I agree - 'aim for the stars and you might reach the sky' etc

That's the difference - you boys aim for the stars, we aim for the top of the apple tree and still miss that! :gag:

Right heading off shortly to the match and donning my eternal optimist profile. We are also now aiming for second! Second from bottom that is after today's matches.

I have a feeling, dunno why, that QPR will beat Fulham.

I'm not familiar with this word - what does it mean? Is it an americanism? :suspect:

I assume he is trying to Mourinho them into believing they can do it - I just always think it you set unrealistic targets no-one pays attention so they are pointless - I base this on my extensive Premier League managerial experience in Football Manager 2012, far more satisfying than real life!

More satisfying until you encounter this annoying free-kick bug!

Although, I am playing with Arsenal so perhaps it's more realistic than I care to admit

Couple of bad misses from Rooney.

This game should be all over.

Villa 2-0 up at Anfield joint lowest away goal scorers until today!

Make that three up. I think I'll go do the washing up.

Had that in my predictor as a 2-0 Liverpool win a swing of five goals wrong!

Absolutely cracking 2nd goal. Still not counting any poultry yet.
Why not, you not believe me or summat..............

Congratulations QPR!! It looks like both predictions were correct - QPR second from bottom and Liverpool finished in the top two in their match :D

That's got to be the quote of the season from Rodgers

Smug.......

Good job Gerrard nicked one back for Liverpool otherwise (I think) they would have a negative goal difference.

Looks like Fellaini might not play for a little while after this...

Moyes has rightfully said he deserves whatever punishment he gets.

Quite right too, no place in football for that. He allowed himself to be bullied all game and as usual he lost his temper :bonk:.
3 match ban and home for Xmas.

Fellini won't get talked about though because he's not Suarez.

Really? It'll be all over MOTD tonight, the papers tomorrow and every other highlight show. Fellaini got plenty of press a few years ago when he was booked virtually every game and had a penchant for flapping an elbow, so it's nothing new.

Glad to see a manager come out and say exactly what we're all thinking in that Felli deserves the punishment he will get from the FA/Premiership.

Take off your red tinted glasses and drop the victim status!

That is not good.

Nah. People will play it down and forget about it. It's not Suarez so it's not news.

Having seen the **** storm that Cazorla's dive stirred up, I can't agree with that Joe.

That was hardly discussed on here. A couple of posts and a week later everyone's forgot about it. If it had been Suarez we'd still be discussing it now. The proof is in the pudding.

That's because whenever anyone mentions Suarez, you jump up and down and start frothing at the mouth, thereby extending the conversation and keeping the subject at the forefront.

Fixed that for you ;)

I never doubted your psychic abilities!

Bloody hell I forgot how good it feels to win a game :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

The last 5 minutes were torture.

We were excellent - really enjoyable performance. Whatever you think about Harry, the difference now with the same squad is clear.

I was confident before the game we could stay up - with a win under our belt, and needing 6 more points than Reading, Wigan and Southampton to stay up, not to mention Sunderland and Newcastle who appear to be in freefalll, I am feeling good.

Fulham were very poor - but we've lost or drawn to teams playing very poorly a lot so far so it makes a nice change to win.

Tarrabt was amazing today - but so were most of the team.

And diving is nowhere near as recless as nearly breaking a fellow professional's leg/anklefoot or scraping down the back of their achilles, or biting, or lunging at another player.............Ah b****r...I bit :nono:

Firstly, the frothing is due to rabies.

Secondly, i disagree, I think if I looked back there are more posts mentioning Suarez antics from others than me defending them.
