I'm pretty confused with what AVB is trying to do at Spurs. Apparently he's in pursuit of a high tempo team which is why he's letting Van Der Vaart leave but he's scored and assisted more goals than anyone for them in the last 2 years. Moutinho sort of replaces Modric but I suspect he'll cost almost as much as Modric was sold for, Gylfi can sort of replace VDV but isn't exactly a step up in quality. Seems a little bit too much like changes for changes sake.

Is it AVB or Levy though?

Well that's true, I guess like many things in football we don't know who decides what behind the scenes. No doubt AVB will take the fall if it doesn't work out!

I don't!

I hope we get him

You will ... rumour is the deal involves Jordan Henderson going the other way, but this is only a rumour Joe (my dads, cousins brothers best mate, knows a guy in the pub who walks a dog for a bloke who lives by the ground)

I would like that very much. Henderson has just not performed

I think Liverpool certainly need to pull off this Dempsey transfer otherwise they are going to be struggling from goals a bit I think, they are a bit thin in certain areas of the squad too.

Is it just me or does deadline day seem to be going very slowly today :(?

Rumours of Michel Bastos going to Fulham. That could be a huge signing for them!

If it does happen that will be three of Kenny's big transfers shipped out.

Fulham have signed Berbatov so I would imagine Dempsey is on the move, as with a lot of these deals it can be a case of see who blinks first.

Wengers busy doing nothing on transfer day as usual.

3 players in .... 7 players out lol

Pablo Hernandez has signed for Swansea. That's a big boost for them I should think!

VDV back to Hamburg is a strange one, for both club and player. Maybe I'm missing something?
Does his wife not live or work in Germany?

Since June, Newcastle United have 13 players out and only 4 in. Already had a small squad last year, even smaller now and more games to play. Ive low expectations, for this season.

Sounds like Dempsey might be heading to spurs instead. Would probably be quite interested in that I would imagine.

I think LFC will make a move for Dempsey as they're currently facing the possibility of a points sanction after Fulham reported Liverpool to the Premier League last week claiming Dempsey had been tapped up.
The matter would be dropped if the clubs agree a fee for Dempsey.

They've already made the move, they are in talks. But they can't agree on the fee, so it's looking more likely to go to spurs

Also sturridge move looks off, so it's all out and no in for us.

Seems that way

Sky Sports sources understand Liverpool are not expected to make any signings before the transfer window deadline.

Dempsey currently at White Hart Lane apparently

Was hoping for 3 signing today, a right back and replacements for RVP and Song, didn't happen so ....

Change of opinion, Can't see Arsenal finishing top 6 this season, maybe its what needs to happen, because while we have CL money, and money from selling our best players year in year out the board are laughing all the way to the bank.

I knew they'd already made the move. £4m from what I can gather. There was even talk that they tried to shift Henderson too.

I was suggesting they would make a move in response to the late interest that came in from Spurs as the fee didn't seem to be particularly high for him.

Anyway - a good deal for Spurs.

I don't think it's that doom and gloom. If you gave me a choice between the squad we had this time last year and the squad we have today I'd take today's. Of course it's disappointing to not see a new face or two in the final day of excitement, but we're the Arsenal and we'll do what we're good at; making the very best of what we have to compete at a standard far above our financial investment. Anything less than a PL or CL win for City and Chelsea is an utter travesty for them with the finances at their disposal.

Had Giroud, Podolski and Cazorla arrived today people would be going wild and be delighted, but the club had the foresight to prepare for the departures that were frankly inevitable.

I really don't buy into this whole mentality of some Arsenal fans who boo and jeer with discontent at all we do. Be proud of what we have achieved. We have a fantastic stadium that will last us decades, almost paid off all of our debt obligations, arguably the most promising youth development system anywhere and a manager who has delivered the goods year in year out with absolute commitment to the club even when his national side, Real Madrid and Brazil came calling.

Ok, we don't have the financial might of the oil giants, or the reckless spending of Liverpool last season - what a lot of good it did them by the way - but we do have a heap of talent, an incredible coaching team that knows how to get the very best from the talent we have. Now is the time to get behind the team and support them through thick and thin, help them through the tough games and rejoice with them when it all comes good. If someone can't do that for their team, then they don't deserve to call themselves a Gooner.

Up the Arsenal!

Thanks Jamie, your 100% RIGHT . Was feeling a little disappointed this evening as I honestly believed Wenger when he said we are looking to bring in a two more players before the transfer window closes, which had he bought cover for Bacary Sagna and a holding midfielder I would have been very happy with our squad this year.

Good To Be A Gooner!

Good passionate post

I know we have the ongoing 'Wenger out' joke and folk are talking about how long it's been since you've won anything but remember this barren period coincides with Chelsea and City being bought by people with more money that they know what to do with. Simply remove them and we're 'as we were' when it comes to results.

Arsenal could either adopt a financial suicide mission chasing City and Chelsea or play a clever game to keep the books in order and stay ahead of those other clubs competing for Champions League income. United can't compete either and nor should we.

I'll not get into City and Chelsea as it's not their money and the owners can do what they want but to put Wenger's sustainable 4th place into context - look at the alternative approach - Liverpool for example. Not all their signings are listed here but it's an example of a club that have spent a fortune to go backwards.

Most promising youth development??? How many in the last 5 years have actually made the grade with us? Man u have one just as good, welbeck, Evans, cleverley

I do not expect Arsenal to spend the way City or Chelsea do, nor wast money like Liverpool, but would like to see them spend the money received from player sales. Why have we not replace Song?

Was doing a wedding yesterday but wondered if Agger signed?

Agree. We have lost a bit part in benayoun, a key mid in song and rvp. We have gained a mid and 2 atts so are effectively a player up, but we only have 2 strikers and remember we only finished around 5 points clear of 5th so it's hardly progress. We are lacking cover in full back positions, no holding mid player, and no reserves up top. Dempsey would have been a relatively cheap buy and is proven in prem. de Jong too would have been good.

One team who have gone about their business quietly and efficiently this summer are Everton, who have strengthened the quality and depth in their squad with six incoming players, all of who look like great value deals.

Out from the squad went the declining Tim Cahill, on-loan-for-two-seasons Yobo and peripheral Rodwell, and in have come three lively and versatile forwards (Pienaar, Naismith, Mirallas), a left back/midfielder as much-needed cover for Baines and Pienaar (Oviedo), a pacy forward from Kilmarnock to boost the U21 ranks (Kennedy) and the late loan signing of the brilliantly named Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, a Belgian powerhouse mdfielder who seems highly thought-of by his international team-mates Fellaini and Mirallas.

Following on from January's bargain signings of Jelavic and Gibson, there's a very decent squad now and finally some optimism among the fans, and it's all been done with a minimum of fuss and bother.

I fancy Everton to finish top 6 this year, with a little luck top 4.

There's as much chance of Everton finishing top 4 as Liverpool winning the triple. How's that for not sitting on the fence. And if it happens I'll eat my hat

Can someone please explain why we have purchased Charlie Adam from Liverpool???

Cos he's a dwindling British player who struggles with fitness and fouls with intent, just like the rest of your squad.

I actually like Adam and think he would do great for a stoke/everton type team. Also think everton are a good outside bet for top 4. Although think that to 6 is likely. Fancy them to finish higher than pool.

Bizarre news that Drogba has been released from his new club. Would welcome him to Arsenal in a heartbeat!
