Splendid win for the mighty Hammers today. Kevin Nolan sent off after nine minutes at 0-0, it was Milwall who looked like they were a man short. We played possession football and looked all the better for it. The ball spent more time on the deck than in the air, Big Sam take note ;)

Mark Noble was immense. He ran the game and covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Faubert, Tomkins and Cole should also get mentioned in dispatches.

Five points clear at the top :)

Was disappointed you went down - I always use to enjoy our matches against your lot. Hopefull QPR will still be up next year, if as looks quite likely, you go up this year.

That said if players keep getting themselves sent off in our keys matches, we may well go back down. Wolves looked truly awful today before Cisse decided to get himself sent off :bang: - ARGHHHHHHH! You sound like you played well with 10 men - we did not other than for a 5-10 minute spell.

I think Wolves are going down - but who knows it may be us at this rate!
 
MOTD should be good tonight for an argument tonight. Tony Pulis swears that Huth never touched the guy, Cisse was meant to be a kid-on and Johnson's cheating for the penalty in the City game was a disgrace. Still, it's all about money really so we should expect it I suppose. :thumbsdown::nono:

Missed all the footy today so will have to watch later.

All I heard regarding City was lots more empty seats. Hand them a stadium, hand them all the players and they still don't turn up :naughty:

Cisse's looked like a soft red - he pushed him lightly in the back, then grabbed his chin but not in a striking movement. Johnson did not react to it. I would say I was worried he might get sent off, but was still a bit surprised when he did. Cisse was certainly stupid - after two broken legs I think he just stressed about the tackle - reacting the way he did I expect he will get more of that when he nexts returns.

I think the weather had a lot to do with it, although I wouldn't have said there were lots of empty seats, except towards the end.

Johnsons penalty was a disgrace from a player I really like.

Just wish I'd had van persie as my captain instead of silva
 
I'll watch MOTD at 11:45 to see the penalty.

Watching Sportscene (Scottish footy) on BBC1 just now. It's criminal to see games being played to empty stands.
 
Huth sending off was a joke. No feet raised and more conditions than anything. Even a yellow would have been tough.

Cisse, stupid really. Was a sending off, although I would like to see things like this as a booking.

Johnson, defender left his leg out, he went looking for it. Was contact, was a foul and not a dive but I would like to see him punished for that as it was cheating.
 
Saw the City penalty on MOTD.

Harsh and 'bought' without a doubt but not the worst I've seen.

Regarding the laws of the game (and nothing to do with this game) - An ''iffy' tackle outside the box gets you a free kick which might result in a goal. An ''iffy' tackle inside the box (penalty) just about guarantees you a goal.

I hate the fact that the last few mins of every big game these days seems to be penalty claim after penalty claim. Does anybody else think we should just get rid of them ?

Haven't seen the Welbeck penalty, but the suggestion is that it was worse than the Johnson one. And I'm assuming you've changed your mind about getting rid of penalties now? :lol:
 
Welbeck's is as bad as Johnson's but the other one is OK but Utd could have had at least one more just like City yesterday. (Ashley Young & Djecko (?) foul)

Apparently Tom Daley is leaving his sport after the Olympics to sign as a 'Special Teams' player for a premier league club next year.

Not at all.

Obviously I'm happy at getting the pens as it rescued us a point but I'd still like to see them scrapped. There's just so many that it makes a joke of all the good work teams do to get on top.

Perhaps they should just make a penalty worth half a goal. Anything to try and keep people on their feet.

If you got rid of them the fouling on in the penalty area would be out of control - we should keep them and address the issue of all the diving etc going on. I think Cambsno mentioned it before - if people started getting long bans it would soon reduce it. If all a referee had to do was effectively establish if there was contact or not, life would be simpler. We should also get rid of this intentional handball - just have it as handball - if it hits your hand tough - it's a penalty. I'm sure if use to be that way, not sure when it changed over.
 
No way was welbecks pen as bad as johnsons. Fr sure it wasn't a pen but welbecks didn't go kicking ivanovic to get it, welbecks did trip over him, but it wasn't ivanovic fault. Nothing at all like johnsons effort.

Probably happy with the result. Both teams dropping two points means Chelsea keeping closer to Liverpool for 4th spot, and man u dropping 2 points off the lead, so fairly happy.

At least fergi can't bitch and moan about not getting decisions at Stamford bridge today, the two pens were gifts after not giving a cert on welbecks earlier in the first half.
 
Looks like Howard Webb played his part for united again today. 4 penalties in the last 2 games of which some of them shouldnt of been. I can't wait till they introduce camera replays for the refs or something. United won't be so lucky then.

Joe, which one of Welbeck's in the 1st half...I never saw one. He was fouled outside the box so it could not have been a penalty any way, but Ashley Young should have been awarded a penalty. What about the Ruiz dive at the end that led to the fine fee kick shot from Mata and save from DeGettingbettera? http://t.co/OBC4cEpm

he did kick ivanovic and fall over, but to be fair johnsons leg reached way to the right of his running path, it was harder for johnson to actually connect with bairds leg than run past him.

Welbeck ran straight into ivanovic on his running path, it wasn't like he could help it.

I don't see how you can even compare the two

He was diving before Scholes even put a foot in :lol:
As for De Gea, I think he's made fine saves in previous games too, so I'd need to see a few games on the run, without conceeding 3 in any one to say he's improving.

i don't think youngs was a pen.

The wellbeck one outside the box was the one I meant, but I think the foul should have been for the contact inside the box.

Ruiz dive was a joke.

Mata free kick superb, great save, but he's still a big pile of goalkeeper poo

wasn't my photoshop skills, that shot has been around for a while.

As for capello, I think the opposite, it's the FA that shouldn't have undermined their coach by removing terry's captaincy. Well done Capello for speaking out.

And this emphasises the earlier point that Terry should have been suspended as a matter of course (as is the case in the majority of other work environments) as soon as the charges were brought. Then Capello wouldn't have felt undermined, the FA wouldn't have been accused of being slow to act and Terry could concentrate on clearing his name.

Now, through Terry's stupidity and arrogance and Football's "special exemptions" we have more unrest in the England camp and the media talking about Capello resigning just before a major tournament! :bonk:
 
i refuse to believe that you would be suspended in every workplace with an accusation just for accusations sake.

If my colleague phones my boss and says: "Joe called me a (insert racist term here)" My boss wouldn't just automatically believe him and not me.

So there would be an investigation first to find out what happened. I couldn't be suspended based on hearsay.

But it isn't just an accusation, charges were brought which means that the CPS think it's worth prosecuting.

In other work environments, an accusation would not be enough on its own to warrant a suspension but, if the management felt there was enough evidence to instigate formal disciplinary proceedings, then a suspension is a common outcome.

Disagree. In fact after wanting 'Capello Out' for so long I am actually warming to him after this... 'Capello In'???

Football is different to most other workplaces. You are worth something in the main, in any other companies Tevez would have been fired, but he is an asset worth £20-30m so will be treated differently. With Suarez admitting his guilt, he would have been sacked if he had worked in Dixons, or Tesco. Again he is an asset so treated differently.

Innocent until proven guilty!! Yes, you can be suspended as part of a disciplinery process but this is not normally for that long, a few weeks, maybe a month. Why should Terry be suspended for 6 months? Also, most of us do a job because we have to. Aside from the worry of losing our job, being suspended on full pay is not that bad, we dont really care if we miss a few weeks at work, but to miss out in captaining your country... totally different!

Why is terry being stupid and arrogant? Oh I get it, he is one of those players people love to hate. Yes, he has not always set the best example but with players like Terry & Barton they will always be up against it because people hate them.

a fair point.

But I still think it's wrong, and just because other workplaces do it doesn't mean it is right and should be done. If I was wrongly accused of something and was suspended I'd be fuming about it.

You and everyone else but it is a common process used in the majority of industries.

That said, I do think this has been handled appallingly by all concerned, it should have all been dealt with much quicker.

Well, forget the stupid - he could be a Mensa candidate for all I know. But arrogant, yes, because he has only considered himself in all of this - not the wider impact of his decisions. His guilt or innocence at the moment is irrelevant but by not stepping down when he was charged he is directly responsible for the ongoing shenanigans. That is partly why individuals in other work environments (especially high profile ones) are suspended (or resign) when charged.

But you've hit the nail on the head when you talk about footballers being highly valuable assets to the clubs and that is why these things tend to get swept under the carpet. This time let's hope the (in)actions of one individual don't ruin it for the England team.

I think Barton hates him too doesn't he? He must be very bad :p
 
Should be an interesting game tonight (Liverpool v Spurs)

It's one of those that I'm neutral for based on current league standings.

Liverpool still unbeaten at home although they've only won 4 home games but they do seem to be able to raise their game for the bigger matches.

Spurs could be without Defoe, Adebayor, Van der Vaart, Lenon, Huddlestone & Gallas so I'm going for a Liverpool win but I'm hoping for a draw.

That said I'd like Bale and Modric to do well as they're in my FF team.

Defeat for Liverpool could be good news for Sunderland who (with 7 wins from their last 10 games) are hot on Liverpool's heels.
