I really don't get the John terry haters. They guy made a massive mistake in the semis, he ballsed up. Wasnt the first player and won't be the last. Beckham you could argue was the reason we went out in 98. Terry has been an immense player and has put his body on the line many times. He is the modern day tony adams. It obviously appears trendy to knock him. I believe it's his team mates wanting this and it makes sense as he is the captain.

On a related note, I think it's awful that players miss the final, like Ramirez or ivanovic miss the final. We know that refs often get yellows wrong and these days you get far more yellows than you used to. I would prefer to see a law change meaning that players ate not suspended for the final but instead serve a longer ban like 3 games after the final.

It's not just a one off mistake though. You keep you eye on JT in a full game and you'll almost certainly see him do something underhand and thuggish. No one is questioning his commitment to winning, he's just a dirty dirty player and always has been.

The threat of suspension from important games is necessary to prevent too much professional fouling which cheats teams out of offensive opportunities.

I'd gladly see suspended players banned from the stadium for their suspensions. There should also be the opportunity to retrospectively remove or impose cards and bans even for incidents the referee has addressed.

Well, until your last point is addressed I think banning players is very unfair.

Lots of good defenders could be described as dirty players. Look at keown for example. Even when I played 5 aside I would pull little tricks and play dirty too! I am sure most other top defenders do no different to terry.

I've nothing against Terry. I'm not that bothered by petty kicks as it happens all the time and he's not the first.

What I can't swallow is the thing about him collecting the trophy should they win for the reasons I've already stated. It just seems selfish and disrepectful to his team mates whether they're happy with it or not.

Surely thats an oxymoron.

If his team mates WANT him to do it, then how is it disrespectful?

He did something to jeopardise them, but they obviously feel that he's done more to help them throughout the campaign. One thing does not negate all the good things.

Yeah, being disrespectful would be turning down podium when teammates want him to be there.

It's only my opinion based on my values so I can't be proved wrong or right before you start

I wouldn't feel comfortable picking up the trophy if I was him regardless of what my team mates thought or wanted.

I'd show my appreciation of what they had done to win the semi final and final 'without me' and 'despite me' - by holding back and allowing them some reward rather than barging in like some big spoiled kid.

I suspect he wants to be in the famous photo.

I don't think he is behaving like a spoilt kid, where is the evidence of that. I am sure that 99% of players especially club captains would want ti be involved and am sure that all players would want their club captain as a figurehead.

Pretty certain that if arsenal were there and rvp was banned the players would still want him to be there.

I think that's the important part. It's just an opinion.

You may not have wanted to hold the cup, but he isn't you. So there's no real issue. He wants to hold the cup. His team want him to do its not really news.

If he was crying about holding it and having an issue with his team members over it then it would be news. As such it's a non issue.

this.

his commitment can't be questioned.. but he is a nasty piece of work. It's ok having 'hard' defenders or even reckless or dirty... but all those words are relating to the way they tackle. JT has a sly streak which he can't contain. Have a look for the youtube clip where he spat in the back of Tevez' hair in the Moscow CL final a few years back. That was the lowest of the low.

Compared to Roy keane who dinners mentioned, who deliberately went out to try to break a man city players leg? Personally I would prefer to be spat at!

Getting off topic a bit - I wasn't talking about players people's breaking legs, flicking out at people when on the floor, elbowing or sticking a knee in somebody's back. That's a whole different issue.

My crit of Terry (and again just my opinion) was with regards to him feeling comfortable lifting the trophy based on how much he would owe his team mates.

Remember that getting to the final was not just from one game. There were many games before it. His team mates obviously feel that what he did during previous games to help them get where they are overshadow the one incident where he jeopardised it.

I'm aware of that Joe and again it's just my opinion.

If he'd gone off injured then that would be different but if Chelsea do go on to win it, then based on what those players managed to achieve against Barcelona after his sending off and subsequent ban in the final I feel it would be fitting gesture from him to them if he were to insist that somebody else should collect the trophy.

Anyway. That's just my opinion regarding what I think he should do. If he does differently then that's up to him and Chelsea.

Personally, I hope this discussion is proved pointless and Bayern Munich win :D

Nothing like backing the only English club left in the tournament !

Has he actually insisted? From what I read its the players pushing this as much as Terry himself.

So if say DiMatteo had been sent off in the semi, and was given a touchline ban, should he be banned from collecting the trophy?

Without going down that road, I don't see why I should support a Russian owned, Italian managed team made up of more overseas than English players that wish to beat my own team each year.
Plus, my parents are Scottish.

Pmsl ! Sorry, I didn't realise :)

What is your team ?

He's not that bad. Wouldn't want him out for a drink with the wife though. But in his defense I thought he didn't mean it, much! Yeah sure he wanted to give the guy a dead leg and let him know he was about but his adrenalene just went over the top and it was a little harder than he anticipated. I think once it happened he knew it was too much. It looked vicious on camera but not what he really intended in IMHO!

Saying that, including terry, we have players out of the final and up against BM in there home stadium:cuckoo: Underdogs again and I would n't bet against us, all though I'm nervous as hell just like with Napoli, Benfica, and Barca.

Personally, I hope this discussion is proved pointless and Bayern Munich win :D
Iam with you on this one m8;)

the sooner chelsea go back to mediocrity the better.

And i can't believe Avb is in the running for the Barca job:cuckoo:

He's not. they have already appointed PG's second in command as the new manager at the end of the season. Maybe he'll turn up at your team. Which is?

Nah don't think he'll be at Man U anytime soon m8

Figures. Still think all of football should be built from the ground up? Welcome to the new world M8. Age of Tech, age of billionaires, age of toys. Football is the new fashion and although it won't last a couple of decades it's sure going to make it exciting over the next decade. There is no chance MU can sustain the kind of power that is coming their way over the next five years. Reminds me of the game command and conquer, 'unit built,' 'unit lost,' 'unit lost,' 'unit lost,' 'unit lost,'

You could be right m8 the whole things gotta go pop at some point but as Man Utd are more or less self financing (excluding the glazers financing debacle) they will always be there or thereabouts;) as for the billionaires or crooks in chelsea's case they will probs move onto something else

So what do we all make of Pep Guardiola announcing he won't be renewing his contract come the end of the season? It'll be interesting to see who steps into his role and how they manage with the best team in the world at their disposal. It'll also be interesting to see who Guardiola ends up with, although from what he said it suggested he'll be having a little time off before settling into his next job.

Is he really that good? Took over a team full of great players. Even terry connor could probably get then 2nd in league and to semis of CL. Not to mention the fact they dive and cheat as much as Suarez. For me wenger is better and mourinho and ferguson are head and shoulders above that.

Was on the cards for a while, didn't think he'd actually quit though

Yeah think he deserves a great holiday in the sun.Urr! hang on a minute, he is in the sun, get back to work you lazy git!!!

I love the way you seem to deflect who is 'crook'l here. "AS FOR THE BILLIONAIRES OR CROOKS" mmmmmm!

so what do you all think are guardiola's choices?

I guess the easy answer to that is nobody knows

He's only about 40 years old so I suspect time will tell and he can be judged once he's managed away from Barca.

Don't open up the can of worms that is Finacial Fair Play :naughty:

Oh, dear. When did you 'not' realize its a cosmopolitan game:suspect: Dark ages and the way the game is played now are very different. I suggest you go watch cowendebeath (spelling?) for your true football and when you want to be entertained there is always the EPL.

Well if Abramovich isn't a crook the popes not a catholic:lol:

Fixed that for you :D

As a Utd fan i have to admit Ashley youngs recent antics were embarrassing.

has the " I just poked Ashley Young on facebook, Rooney scored from the resulting penalty" been posted yet:)

Well i'll take your Glaziers and raise it by my Abramovic?
