I'm implying nothing Mr Snap, I'm merely suggesting that in times of crisis (or the absence of a TP F&C stalwart such as Mr R) that you can be relied upon to stand up and be counted :D

Good and yes I can be relied upon to be counted, however I'm not as sure about the standing up part.

Will someone have a nuke button if the weather says it's going to rain all day? erm well unless everyone doesn't mind sitting in cafes and pubs all day talking o_O

Isn't that the main point of an f and c meet? Oh and we'll have less of that talk of cafes if you don't mind

Ah I thought the idea was take shots and then go to the greasy spoon cafe for pie and chips o_O,,,but if it's going to rain all day any fairly large village\town would do for easier driving to find and meet and parking esp at a pub. e.g. Bicester, Banbury, Wantage, Stow in the Wold etc

But some people will have bought advance train tickets to Oxford and they may well be valid only on a specific train on a specific date. No flexibility to change date or destination. I suspect that, just like the Bristol meet where it poured down all day, the meet will go ahead in Oxford on 1st April and we'll all just make the most of it and have fun despite the weather :)

good point.

It will be sunny.... I decree it thus.

Well I don't know what's happening but I've got to miss this one as the grandchildren are staying with us for that weekend...actually the 25th (oh well voted 1st) is going to be a great day as the weather forcast for Oxford is dry and periods of lovely sun.

I'm umming about going to this. There are quite a few park and ride car parks around Oxford. Is the plan to go to Oxford and wander around the city centre and places within walking distance?

Yep

I'm planning on using the park and ride to get into the centre and walk about :)

I'm coming on the train so will be city centre.

Just working on that Charlotte but it will be central.

It'd be handy to know of the meeting place in advance because I'm sans mobile phone at the moment. Might be a bit tricky finding you, though I'm still quite tall so you might be able to see me in a crowd ...

... and wide enough that there's space around you! :D

Usually a coffee shop is designated as a meeting point, often near the station. In this case, one of the Park and Ride buses comes in past the station, but the northern (Pear Tree?) and Eastern buses don't, as far as I can remember. However, the centre is quite compact, so it's easy to get from anywhere to anywhere on foot.

I'm still almost certainly not coming, but there is a small possibility so I'll keep watching this...

You need one of those flag things that tourist guides use. Could be entertaining to see how much of a crowd you can get to follow you around while making up some complete tripe about Oxford :)

All the park and rides go right into the city centre.

If I do venture out I won't be there until around lunchtime anyway. So perhaps a staggered start? Early birds meet near the railway station and the lunchtime lazy laggards meet wherever has been decided upon for lunch?

How many flag thingies or umbrellas would you like?

Every time I drop down to Nice, or indeed the coast, the place is abundant with groups being led like sheep following a food bag:D, with these "guides waffling a load of tripe about the Cote D'Azur and what a wonderful place it is.

Indeed it is a very beautiful place, however like anywhere else in the world, it's only when you've lived in a location for some time do you see " the good, the bad and the ugly";)

When I visited Cannes or Nice or somewhere flashy along that coast in 1958..the front was for the rich and lovely but behind this area it was crappy...has it changed since that time?

Nope!
Behind that glamour there are thousands of folk struggling on, or often below the breadline.
It's not unique to the Cote D'Azur, however due to the influx of rich people throughout the decades who are predominantly foreigners, English, Russian and Arab in particular, the area has a stigma attached that one has to be loaded to live here, indeed most of the French have it installed in their heads that the English have more money than sense ( not surprising when one can sit in certain restaurants and bars and watch a surprisingly number of them throwing notes about like it has no value)
To be fair, masses of funds are put into improvements of transport systems, public areas etc of which everyone can benefit from, however the "high life" that tourists see is very much a façade and I would recommend that anyone visiting takes a long walk away from the coast and touristy areas to see the difficulties that many locals really endure, the majority of which are French!
Some areas make for VG photo opportunities if you dare show that you have a camera and risk being "approached" and or" relieved" of it!!

Ah my father and me fitted in well in the crappy areas on a motorbike :D But I had a fairing with jaguar stickers on the sides and where ever we stopped a small group of people would look at it...probably never seen a British motorbike before

Hey guys - my brother has announced he's visiting this weekend, so sadly I'll have to back out :( Take lots of photos for me...

There's a train that can get us there at 9.40am too, as long as the railway gods are in a good mood!!

I picked St Mary's Tower as the place to visit as I'd really like to take some shots of the city from there but if anyone has any suggestions of locations to visit throughout the day then suggest away, that way we can sort out some sort of itinerary.

Also for lunch I suggest The Bear or one of Morse's favourite hostelries The Turf Tavern, both get good reviews on BITE but the Turf may be past its best, still worth a visit though.
