The film 52 challenge

Uploaded my first challenge shot to Flickr.

I'm using the tag "TPF&C52" if there's anyone else hosting on Flickr.

here's a hell of a thing for staff to be asking but i'll ask it anyway...

what's the deal with 52's... I get that you take one photo a week - fair enough - but there seems to be something going on in the challenges bit with a weekly theme... I try to look in there, but all the similar titles and numbers just give me a nosebleed within 30 seconds and I have to leave

No problem :)

There's an "official" 52 project. Ignoring some of the finer details, one of the mods pics a theme out of a hat on Sat and posts it in the stickied thread. People who are doing the official one then get to take their interpretation that week, so you can see how other people view the same thing.

I'm going to pretty much stick to using these themes, but not beat myself up if I decide on a better one for a given week or something big happens that I think is more relevant for my photography - it is all about self improvement after all!

Rather than having one thread each week with everyone contributing to that week's theme, everyone has their own thread for all their pics over the 52.

well I loaded up the Trip with some 400 yesterday, just to get me started.

Well madness has prevailed and after a drunken night in the pub before Christmas the ramblings of two drunken old blokes has morphed into the 52 cameras in 52 weeks challenge. So, we both have a cupboard full of film cameras and fridges full of film and what better way to keep them alive than run some film through them and post the results up for other sanity challenged photographers.

I'm going to run a blog alongside the challenge on TP and it has already been started by my mate and fellow camera nut Al

If you fancy keeping up with our attempts pop along to 52cameras and see how we're getting on.

That Sir, is immense....

Thanks Danny, it remains to seen how far we get but I've just souped the first roll of Lucky 100 from a Minox 35GT, just waiting for it to dry so will try and get it scanned tonight.

I'm going out to get my first in the morning. Love the idea of using a different camera each week, would love to do the same but I only have 18 film bodies (20 if I pretend that each film back on the H1 makes it a different camera). I suppose I could do a 1 every 3 week project ;)

I've taken three shots and will be developing them soon, it may take several attempts to get something online.

I inherited an ancient 4x5 about 20 years ago, but never got around to using it (apart from a couple of shots last year) it just sat in a box of stuff waiting to be rediscovered. There are a number of hurdles I know I will have to overcome, but see this as part of the challenge. Therefore, I'm hoping that the challenge will yield some good shots, but I'm not expecting anything exciting (in terms of picture content) at the beginning, the excitement will all be in the challenge of ironing out camera faults, user error, developing issues, user error, scanning problems and user error.

Part of the challenge will be overcoming technical problems including; the wooden frame needs attention, the film backs were designed for glass plates - not film, I doubt the shutter speeds are accurate (they all seem to be the same apart from B & T), and my scanner only goes to 120.

Sounds like the least of your worries are 'user error'

Good luck with your 52 challenge.
