The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Any recommendations for a small, pocketable camera? Fuji or otherwise? Leaning towards the Ricoh GR4 but not sure if I'm missing anything. My XH2 is sometimes a bit big to take.

Depends on priorities. The Sony rx100 is tough to beat for flexibility. If you don't mind a fixed focal length then the Ricoh will give you the larger sensor.

Ricoh GR is THE pocketable camera but there are reports of the GR4 freezing and having issues with the lens not retracting when switched off.

That seems worrying to happen so often. Hopefully just one faulty unit.

It also seems expensive when you can get say an XM5 and pancake for ~350 less.

The smaller sensor and age puts me off the RX100 VII. But perhaps I need to take a closer look. Thanks.

There have been a few reports - hopefully resolved before they bring out the monochrome version early next year.

My X-H1 arrived this morning, I knew it was going to be big and heavy compared to my X-T20 but I didn't appreciate just how much bigger it would be until I had it in my hand, it's like going back to a DSLR, feels as if it's built like a tank, it's a beast!

Looking forward to putting it through it's paces though.

Yes it is a beast, I own two of them because from the first time I tried one when it was introduced it fitted my hands perfectly. I couldn't afford it at that price, but when that began to fall off a cliff with the rumours of an X-T3 I bought one. Later on I bought a second near mint one in case the first one failed and I had both serviced by Fujifilm.

The other plus point to me is that it has the same sensor as the X-T2, which, although I never owned one, I always liked the look of the jpeg output.

As regards the weight, pair it with the 16-55 f2.8 Mk1, yes it's an even heavier combo, but I find that it sits in my hands like a well worn pair of leather gloves. As always it's a case of "each to their own" and the X-H1 is very much my own to me.

If and when I see a deal on the 23mm f/2.8, I will likely snap one up as my walkabout lens for my X-S10.

In the meantime, I am thinking about getting a cheap zoom, as I bought the body second hand without a kit lens. I currently have a Viltrox 15mm f/1.7 and a Sigma 30mm f/1.4

Which zoom would you all recommend on a budget? I don't really need a telephoto at this point, compactness is preferable. The Fujifilm XC 15-45mm PZ and the XC 16-50mm F/3.5-5.6 OIS II can be purchased used pretty cheaply. Are there others I should consider?

Honestly the 18-55mm can be had pretty cheap and is probably slightly better than both of those.

The PZ doesn't get a lot of love and having briefly had the 16-50, I can say it's pretty poor optically unless you stop it right down to f8, and even then it's just OK.

I had no complaints about the 18-55, other than the lack of weather sealing which I guess isn't an issue for you.

The 18-55 f2.8 is an absolute gem, calling it a kit lens doesn't do it justice.

I've been tempted by the XC 15-45 for it's range and size, I know a lot of people are put off by being a power zoom...

Another vote for the 18-55mm, it's a great little lens :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I will take a look at the 18-55mm. And, yes, weather sealing isn't a issue as the body doesn't have it!

Virtually all my (street) Fuji-X pic's over the past year have been snapped with my X-H1 and the 18-55mm lens. It's an absolute cracker of a little lens, at least my copy is.

"Unfortunately at the moment due to health reasons, I'm unable to carry anything heavier than my iPhone, hence not posting anything (pic's wise) on this thread for a little while"

Hope you're on the mend soon, George!

Many thanks Kerry, much appreciated. (y)

"Might take a time or two, as it looks like a couple of bouts of surgery are needed. Still I'll cross that bridge when I get to it"

Jeeze, George
I hope it's nothing too serious, mate. Play by the rules as I remember you customizing after you broke your leg ;)

Sorry to hear that George. :(

"Nothing that can't be put right I hope, we'll know after a few more tests etc. As for playing by the rules matey you know that's unlikely. I've still got that old wheel chair that I customised, as the NHS didn't want it back with my modifications but they never did charge me for it" :) :)

Picked up a nice Fuji 56mm f1.2 R from LCE Leamington Spa - quite impressed from the first very brief outing.
It's a very sharp lens right down to f1.2 ... but challenging trying street at f1.2!

I have found that LCE Derby and Leamington Spa have the most accurate details for the 2nd hand lenses. Ordered from both, can’t fault them.

My 100-400 came from Derby, and if it wasn’t for the fact that the box was unsealed I’d have thought it was factory fresh, I was super impressed. LCE’s prices in general seem to be consistently good too.
