The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Having recently decided to start shooting again after a 3 year hiatus, I've bought a little used XT4 and been deciding on lenses, before the hiatus I had a 16-55MK1, and thought I would go the same route but with the MK2 version, however with the arrival of the Sigma 17-40 F1.8, my mind could be changed as I like internal focusing zooms, the saving over the Fuji lens could fund or go towards another lens..

Might have to read a few more real world reviews, but f1.8 is tempting.

I've been playing with recipes from Fuji X Weekly again. Found a redscale recipe; I'd never heard of redscale before so I read up on it and thought I'd have a go. I quite like how some of the shots I took came out, but I don't think it's something I'd be using very often...

These are all from my X-T4, with the Viltrox 35mm F/1.7 Air.

The recipes are sometimes good “in theory” but of course they may suit certain situations. I used one last night at a local Porsche meet and whilst it was generally ok, I found the strong grain to be a little OTT so I’ve changed it to weak.

I used the same recipe in Athens last week and liked to results..

More homework and experimentation required by me perhaps

IMO this is true with all film simulations/recipe's what works for one thing isn't necessarily good for another. Take one picture it looks great, turn around and take a picture it can look pants.

There are 3 images in the process, 1) the one we visualise, 2) the one the camera takes and 3) the one we post process - our target is to get 1 and 3 the same, film simulations and recipes may do this for us, but in many situations they aren't quite the solution to 3=1

Thats not to say they don't have their uses and they can make shooting fun, but they mess with the histogram, and can lead to you not getting the best out of the sensor.

I pretty much always set grain & DR to off, and I don't tend to alter the sharpening or clarity settings; for me it's much more about the colour profile. Probably a sign that I should just have a play and create my own profile rather than following someone else's ideas!

A couple from a walk yesterday to Souter Lighthouse, Whitburn. I'm enjoying the "freedom" that the X100 vi is giving me as I'm not obsessing about which lens I should take or use. Since getting the Fuji Ive not used my Sony.

I decided to pick up an X-M5 to accompany me on my travels to Greece over the past couple of weeks.

It's made me realise how often I use the viewfinder in my X-T5 (especially in sunlight) and I'm not sure I can live with a camera which doesn't have one now.

In my ongoing hunt for something smaller than the X-T5, I think I'm going to have to accept the I may be asking too much. I don't think the X-T50 or new X-E5 are smaller by enough margin to make it worthwhile to pick one up which is a real bummer.

An XE with a pancake lens definatly feels smaller than an xt4.
I managed most of an Adriatic cruise with one and an 18 & 27 pancake, with an Olympus om5 for the occasional longer shot.
But I do like my xt50 and it does not feel particularly big

Has anyone got the 16-55Mk II on pre order? Put my order in a while ago on Jessops, but no signs of any stock. Message from Jessops yesterday is they have no idea when they'll receive any.
Got mine from Clifton Cameras. I was on the wait list for about two months but they updated me about once a month on my spot and when they were expecting stock. They seemed to only get two/three per delivery.

The Red Arrows are coming and going from Southend Airport over the weekend. Popped down with my camera earlier, just in time for their first landing.

The fence was a bit of a shame. Next time I'll try with a wider aperture. All with my X-T4 and the XF 100-400mm, around F/8 and 1/1250 sec.

Interesting nugget from one of our friends son who is an EasyJet pilot.
The Reds come fly in, in formation smoke on for the on lookers. But have to break formation before the end of the run way, otherwise it’s classed as an air show, which they have not been granted permission for by the council

I love watching the Red Arrows. I'm lucky enough to live a couple of miles from Exeter airport so get to see them a few times a year here. Seeing them fly never gets old. :)

Shameless plug - please delete if not allowed....
I'm selling my as new X-M5 in the classifieds (along with an 18-55mm and my X-S10) as I've once again fallen victim to GAS and preordered the X-E5.

Mine turned up out of the blue from Jessops at the weekend. Had an email on Friday saying sorry for any delay, they will update as soon as they hear anything. The day after a message to say DPD have my Jessops parcel.

As you say, I suspect they are coming in very small batches.

While out on my drifting I came across this pair of rusty old doors that look like they may have opened onto an old loading bay for a small warehouse.

I popped down to Fambridge last night; I thought after that hot hazy day there might be a good sunset. Sadly, there was some cloud so it wasn't really spectacular, just very orange. Lovely cool breeze off the river though, which was very welcome :)
